In fact, Lustig and former head coach Scott Browning are the only Edinboro head coaches to win their first two games and also their first two road games. No Edinboro coach has started off 3 0. } The going gets much tougher for the Fighting Scots over the next few weeks, and in particular, the next two weeks. Edinboro plays its home opener against a West Chester team that was the Eastern Division champion a year ago and was picked to repeat in the PSAC coaches preseason poll. That is followed by a home date with ninth ranked Indiana(Pa.) on Saturday, September 24 in the PSAC West opener. } West Chester comes in with a 1 1 record after opening the season with a 31 24 win at Bentley, before losing to Slippery Rock in the WCU home opener last saturday, 36 28. The Golden Rams were 7 4 last year, including 6 1 in the PSAC East. Head coach Bill Zwaan is in his 14th season at the helm and has guided WCU to four PSAC East titles and a school record seven NCAA Division II playoff appearances, with two trips to the national semifinals. } The win at Saint Joseph s snapped an 11 game losing streak for the Fighting Scots after Edinboro suffered its first winless season since 1951 and the seventh in school history. The Fighting Scots finished 0 11 a year ago, the most losses in school history. The win also snapped a string of eight straight setbacks on the road dating back to October 2014. The victory at Lock Haven gave Edinboro wins in back to back road games for the first time since 2012. } West Chester owns a 5 4 record in the all time series with Edinboro. The two teams have not met since 2010, when Edinboro posted a 16 14 win at West chester. In fact, this series has featured an odd twist in that the road team has won the last six meetings. } The season opening win ended a two year drought in season openers. The Fighting Scots had lost their last two season openers a 38 24 loss at Carson Newman in 2014 and a 30 10 loss to Saint Joseph s in 2015. } Edinboro was picked to finish eighth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll after being picked to finish seventh a year ago. } The Fighting Scots returned a total of 15 starters from 2015 seven on offense, six on defense, and two specialists. However, the offense will be without leading rusher Cory Bell, who is out indefinitely with injuries. } Youth is featured on the 2016 roster, along with a touch of seniority. After having just five seniors in 2015, this year s roster has six redshirt seniors and nine seniors. However, 50 of the 83 players on the opening day roster have a year experience or less. That breaks down to 24 freshman, nine redshirt freshmen, and 17 sophomores. The youth was evident in the season opener, with two redshirt freshmen starting and a total of three true freshmen and six redshirt freshmen playing. } Edinboro has rallied in the fourth quarter in each of the first two games, as both contests were back and forth affairs. The Saint Joseph s contest had six lead changes before Walter Fletcher scored on a 57 yard touchdown run for the winning score. Edinboro and Lock Haven exchanged the lead five times before a 13 yard pass from Jake Sisson to Alex Caratelli gave Edinboro the lead for good. The first two games have also featured plenty of big plays. Against Saint Joseph s, Edinboro had two plays of 50 ormore yards, while the Pumas had four plays of 30 or more yards. At Lock Haven, the two teams combined for ten plays of 30 or more yards six for Edinboro and four for Lock Haven. There were four scoring plays of 50 or more yards, including a 99 yard clinching touchdown pass from Sisson to James Clark. That is the longest pass play in school history and ties the record for the longest play from scrimmage. } Senior Victor Hudson was named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week following one of the most dominat performances by an Edinboro defender in years. Against Lock Haven, the defensive end recorded a careerhigh 12 tackles, including nine solo. He lived in the Bald Eagles backfield all afternoon, finishing with a school record 8.5 tackles for losses of 37 yards, including five sacks. That figure was two off the school record,. Hudson moved from outside linebacker to defensive end during preseason drills. On TV/Radio } The Edinboro West Chester game can be heard live on WFSE FM 88.9, with Drew Patrick providing the play by play and George Schmidt the commentary. The WFSE stream can be heard at www.edinboronow.com. In addition, all Edinboro radio broadcasts will be aired by the Keystone Sports Network. The games will be broadcast on WWCB 1370 AM in Corry, Pa. and WLOA 1470 AM in Greenville, Pa. The Keystone Sports Network streams live at www.keystonesports.net. The game will also be televised locally on ETV, Edinboro s student TV station, and streamed live. The live stream is available at www.edinboro.now.com The All-Time Series } West Chester leads 5-4 Edinboro won the last meeting between the two schools, 16 14, in 2010 at West Chester. The series has seen the visiting team come away the winner in each of the last six meetings. The Last Meeting } 2010 -- Edinboro 16, West Chester 14 The two teams last met on September 11, 2010, with the 24th ranked Fighting Scots winning a tight decision at West Chetser. Edinboro was outgained 398 yards to 204 yards, but the Fighting Scot defense picked off four passes, recorded a fumble recovery, had three sacks and came up with a safety which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. All four interceptions came in Edinboro territory. The Fighting Scots, meanwhile, turned the ball over just once, that

Edinboro knotted the game at 7 7 with 54 seconds left In the first quarter on a 19 yard pass from Cody Harris to Gary Nolen. It marked the only pass in a 13 play, 49 yard drive that covered 5 minutes, 45 seconds. Edinboro converted three third down plays plus a fourth down. The lone scoring in the second quarter came on a safety for the Scots with 9:14 remaining. Following a scoreless third quarter, the Harris to Nolen combination hooked up for a 27 yard touchdown pass. That made it 16 7 with 12:47 to play. The Boro defense would add more two interceptions in the fourth quarter. West Chester closed to 16 15 with exactly two minutes to play as Mike Mattei tossed a 10 yard scoring pass to Rondell White. Edinboro recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. The Scots employed a conservative attack on offense, running the ball 50 times for 94 yards and passing the ball just 15 times. Harris was 12 of 15 for 110 yards with 2 TDs. Michael Battles led all rushers with 21 carries for 63 yards. Nolen caught 5 passes for 56 yards and the 2 TDs. Mattei completed 22 of 39 passes for 321 yards, but threw four costly interceptions and was haunted by numerous dropped passes. Edinboro held the Golden Rams to 77 yards rushing. James Jackson intercepted a pair of passes in his first career start. Last Week } Edinboro 44, Lock Haven 38 In a back and forth contest that featured five lead changes, the Fighting Scots rallied with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns. Jake Sisson capped a spectacular day with a 13 yard TD pass to Alex Caratelli to give the Boro the lead for good. Just over two minutes later, the junior threw a schoolrecord 99 yard TD pass to James Clark for a 44 32 lead. The game featured five lead changes and six drives of 70 or more yards, along with five scoring plays of 45 or more yards. Sisson would end the day throwing for 486 yards, the second highest total ever at Edinboro, along with 517 yards in total offense, which also is second all time. He accounted for six touchdowns five passing and one rushing to tie a school record. Clark would finish with career highs of 9 catches for 193 yards and 2 TDs. Walter Fletcher was held to 14 yards rushing, but caught 4 passes for 122 yards, including a 64 yard TD catch. True freshman Ta Nauz Gregory scored for the second straight week, this time catching a 57 yard TD pass. The defense came up with the big plays when it needed to, particularly Victor Hudson. The senior defensive end had a career high 12 tackles while setting a school record with 8.5 TFL. That included five sacks, two shy of the school record. } Slippery Rock 36, West Chester 28 The Golden Rams lost to 12th ranked Slippery Rock in their home opener as a late rally fell short. Junior Andrew Derr threw for 435 yards with 4 TDs (3 pass, 1 rush), including a 15 yarder to Jordan Banks with less than two minutes to play to pull within eight points. West Chester recovered a fumble and drove to the SRU 45 before a 4thand 10 pass fell incomplete. Derr completed 41 of 62 passes, but also threw three interceptions and WCU passers were sacked four times. WCU attempted a school record 63 passes. The Golden Rams finished with 500 total yards while running 99 plays, and held Slippery Rock to just 341 yards. Shannon Mayer caught 9 passes for 128 yards and 2 TDs (8, 14). West Chester trailed 22 6 at the half. } Boro Picked Eighth in PSAC West Coaches Preseason Poll Edinboro will play the role of underdog in 2016. Lustig Comments... on the Fighting Scots Getting our second win on the road was a big accomplishment for our program. I am most proud of the way our players kept fighting, again we found ourselves in a back forth game that was decided late in the 4th quarter. We knew going into this game that slowing down their QB would be difficult, for the second week in a row our offense played very well and our defense made big stops at critical times. Lustig Comments... on the Golden Rams West Chester will be a big challenge this week, but we are excited to compete at home against a formidable opponent. West Chester is a very talented football team led by a very strong OL. They return many veteran players. They are also a very well coached football team. We are expecting for a very large crowd on Saturday afternoon and we hope that will be an advantage for us on gameday. BORO BITS Lustig One of Three Boro Coaches to Win First Two Games Justin Lustig has joined a rather select group of Edinboro coaches to win their first two games. He is one of only three coaches to win his first two games as Edinboro s head coach, joining the immortal Sox Harrison (1926) and Scott Browning (2006). No Edinboro head coach has won his first three games. In addition, Lustig and Browning are the only two of Edinboro s 14 head coaches to win his first two road games. Winning on the Road Can Be Habit-Forming Edinboro entered the 2016 campaign losers of eight straight road games and 12 in the last 13 games. That streak ended in week number one with a 31 30 win at Saint Joseph s, and the Fighting Scots then made it two in a row on the road with a 44 38 triumph at Lock Haven. The twogame road winning streak is the first since the 2012 season. First Two Weeks Highlighted by Plenty of Lead Changes, Big Plays Several things were consistent in the first two games of the season. Both games saw Edinboro rally in the fourth quarter. Lead changes were the norm. The EU Saint Joe s game saw the lead change six times before Walter Fletcher scored on a 57 yard run for the winning score. Last Saturday, the lead was swapped five times before a 13 yard TD pass from Jake Sisson to Alex Caratelli gave the Scots the lead for good. Against Saint Joseph s, Edinboro had two plays of 50 or more yards, while the Pumas had four plays of 30 ormore yards. 99 is Fine When James Clark hauled in a 99 yard touchdown pass from Jake Sisson at Lock Haven, it represented the longest pass play in school history. In addition, it tied for the longest play of scrimmage ever at Edinboro. Lester Frye previously had a 99 yard run against California(Pa.) in 1991. Clark ended the day with career highs for catches (9), yards receiving (193), and receiving TDs (2). The 193 yards receiving is tied for eighth in a game. As a freshman, Clark caught 7 passes for 109 yards with one touchdown while appearing in nine games. Shansky s Return Bolsters Defense Mike Shansky, a two time second team All PSAC West performer, missed all but the first game of the 2015 season after suffering a season ending injury late in the season opener against Saint Joseph s. A senior outside linebacker, Shansky led the Fighting Scots in tackles in 2014 with 84, along with leading the team in tackles for losses (8) and standing second in sacks (5.5). A former transfer from California(Pa.), he ranked second in tackles in 2013 with 87. He tied for the team lead in tackles for losses with 11, and paced the Scots with 3.5 sacks. Shansky had 9 tackles in the Saint Joseph s game. He received an injury redshirt waiver and has returned in 2016 as a starter at outside linebacker. Welcome Back Jordan In 2013, Jordan Williams finished as Edinboro s fourth leading receiver with 24 receptions for 256 yards with 2 TDs after catching eight passes as a freshman. Williams went on to transfer to Division I Liberty, where he redshirted in 2014 before seeing action in 11 games in 2015 at safety. Williams returned to Edinboro this summer and is now playing his final season as a Fighting Scot. He made a memorable return at Saint Joseph s. He only caught 4 passes for 24 yards, but his nine

Game 3 - West Chester at Edinboro } Hudson Named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week Senior Victor Hudson was named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Lock Haven. Hudson has taken to a preseason move from outside linebacker to defensive end, and turned in one of the most dominant performers by a Boro defender in years last Saturday. He posted a career high 12 tackles (9 solo), with a school record 8.5 tackles for losses of 37 yards. That included 5 sacks, the second highest total at Edinboro. Hudson leads NCAA Division II in both tackles for losses and sacks. } Sisson Selected D2Football.com s Co-Offensive Player of the Week Jake Sisson was named the D2Football.com Co Offensive Player of the Week following his performance at Lock Haven. He also led the Fighting Scots in rushing with 31 yards on nine carries with another touchdown. In addition, he caught a pass for 11 yards. The 486 yards is the second highest single game total at Edinboro, as his the 517 yards in total offense. The five touchdowns passing and six touchdowns responsible for tie school records. He also passed for five TDs and had six touchdowns responsible for against Gannon in 2015. yard touchdown recption in the third quarter was Beckham esque. Running a fade pattern in the back left corner of the end zone, Williams rose high in the air and pulled the ball in with one hand while dragging a foot in the back of the end zone. Trickeration a Word to Remember If the Lock Haven game is any indication, trick plays could be a big part of Edinboro game plans. The Fighting Scots attempted a number of trick plays, some which worked and some which didn t. Edinboro tried a halfback option pass early in the game, but Walter Fletcher s pass was intercepted in the end zone. Later in the game, wide receiver Alex Caratelli completed an 11 yard pass to quarterback Jake Sisson down to the Lock Haven one. Jake Putting Up Big Numbers Junior quarterback Jake Sisson has turned in a pair of huge efforts while leading the Boro to back to back come from behind wins. At Saint Joseph s, he was 30 of 48 for 234 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. He followed that up by completing 28 of 47 passes for 486 yards with 5 TDs and an INT. The 486 yards is the second highest total at Edinboro, and he finished with 517 yards in total offense, which is also second. He tied the record for TD passes and TDs responsible for, after also passing for five touchdowns and running for one against gannon in 2015. Sisson ranks ninth in Division II in passing yards per game (360.0 ypg.). Sisson Climbing in the Record Book Jake Sisson missed the last two games of the 2015 season, yet still threw for 1,960 yards and accounted for 2,226 yards in total offense in the nine games he played in. The junior has moved up to 11th in career passing yards with 2,910 yards, and is now 14th in career total offense yards (3,153). he is tied for eighth in career touchdown passes with 24. } CAREER PASSING YARDS 1. He played a key role in his first collegiate contest, catching 7 passes for 45 yards, including a four yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. He made it back toback games with a touchdown at Lock Haven, hauling in a 57 yard TD catch. That was part of a 4 reception, 64 yard day. Booming Punts Reese s Calling Card Austin Reese is off to a fast start as Edinboro s punter, averaging 41.3 yards on 13 punts. At Lock Haven, he averaged 48.2 yards on four punts, the ninth highest single game figure. That included a career long 64 yarder, plus one of 63 yards. He had a 62 yard boot at Saint Joseph s. Reese has also been perfect on his placement kicks, making both field goal attempts along with 9 of 9 extra points. Walter Bursts on the Scene as 100/100 Man Make it a pair of bursts, covering 50 and 57 yards! Redshirt freshman Walter Fletcher enjoyed an impressive debut as he ran for 180 yards on 24 carries at Saint Joseph s. It marked the most yards by a Fighting Scot since Drew Herrell ran for 197 yards against Lock Haven in 2010. Fletcher scored Edinboro s first touchdown on a 50 yard run, and the winning touchdown on a 57 yard run with just six minutes to play in the game. Fletcher added 4 receptions for 39 yards for 219 all purpose yards. Last week at Lock Haven. he was limited to 14 yards rushing on nine carries. However, he still contributed in a big way, finishing with 4 receptions for 122 yards, including a 64 yard TD reception. Game-By-Game Starters Lustig Returns to Hoosier State, Scots Win in Indiana for First Time As luck would have it, Justin Lustig coached his first game as a head coach in the very state he served as an assistant. Lustig was an assistant coach at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana for five years before taking over at Edinboro. In addition, the northwest portion of Indiana was his recruiting territory, making the return even more familiar. This marked Edinboro s first win against a team from the Hoosier state, and was the firest win against a team from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lustig Debuts as 14th Edinboro Coach with W Justin Lustig officially became the 14th head football coach at Edinboro at Saint Joseph s, and he made it a victorious debut. He replaced Scott Browning, who served the last ten years as Edinboro s head coach. Girvin Finds a Home at Defensive End Jon Girvin played three different positions in 2015. The starter at quarterback for eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2013, including that year s win against Lock Haven, Girvin did not play in 2014. He returned to the Scots last year as a tight end, but he saw more action offensively as a backup quarterback. He scored rushing touchdowns against East Stroudsburg and IUP. Girvin was moved to defensive end to take advantage of his 6 5, 250 lb. frame late in the year. He saw action at defensive end the final four games, finishing the year with seven tackles and a pass broken up. Girvin finished with three tackles, including his first career sack, in his first career start at Saint Joseph s. Staunch Goes from QB to TE to OT Trey Staunch was one of Edinboro s top recruits a year ago. He was a standout in both football and basketball at West Middlesex High School as a prepster, throwing for 3,708 yards and rushing for 1,399 yards as the team s quarterback for his career. In basketball, he scored 2,131 career points and pulled over 1,000 rebounds. Staunch made the move to tight end as a freshman, where he appeared in all 11 games, with five starts. He would catch three passes. Midway through fall drills, Staunch made a much bigger adjustment, as the 6 4, 248 lb sophomore was moved to offensive tackle. He has started the first two games at right tackle. Leber Makes Impact after No Action in 2015 After redshirting in 2012, Jake Leber saw action in 22 games over the next two years, including a pair of starts at cornerback. In 2015, Leber did not see the field at all. The redshirt senior made up for lost time at Saint Joseph s, starting at safety and finishing with eight tackles. Edinboro in Season Openers The Fighting Scots own a 39 44 5 all time record in season openers following the 31 30 win at Saint Joseph s. Edinboro saw its four game winning streak in season openers snapped in 2012 with a 30 14 loss at Bloomsburg, but the Scots came back with a 35 34 win at Walsh in 2013. They fell at Carson Newman, 38 24, in 2014, and opened 2015 with a 30 10 loss to Saint Joseph s. 2016 Schedule Features Three Nationally- Ranked Teams, Both PSAC Favorites Edinboro s 2016 schedule features three teams that were ranked in the Sporting News' Division II Preseason Top 25. Caratelli Catches On Alex Caratelli was forced to sit out the 2014 season after transferring from Robert Morris. He proved to be well worth the wait in his first season, forming a potent one two combination at wide receiver. The redshirt junior ended the year with 52 receptions for 837 yards, a 16.1 yard average, with a team leading 8 TDs. The 8 TDs is tied for eighth in a season, while the yards receiving is eighth and the receptions ninth. Noseguard Kibbie Leads Scots in Tackles in 15 Through the years, jokes have been made about noseguards. But the season Josh Kibbie had in 2015 was no laughing matter. the senior finished as Edinboro s leading tackler with 74 stops, while also pacing the team in tackles for losses (10.0) and sacks (6.5). It marked the first time an interior

Florida Tech 2 0 lineman led Edinboro in tackles since Ebby Hollins in 1970. Thomas Breaks Kickoff Return Records Mitch Thomas was busy as a freshman returning kickoffs. While doubling as a starting cornerback, Thomas broke school records for kickoff returns and kickoff return yards in a season. He returned 36 kickoffs for 871 yards in returns. That figure broke the record of 757 yards previously held by Eric Bosley. Bosley also held the record for returns with 28. Both had been set in 1984. Thomas also broke the school record for kickoff returns in a game with eight returns at East Stroudsburg. That broke the record of seven previously held by Bosley and Larry Pollick. Thomas averaged 24.2 yards per return, ranking fifth in the PSAC. Thomas First to Return Interception, Kickoff, and Punt for Touchdown In addition to setting the season kickoff return records, Mitch Thomas became the first player at Edinboro to return an interception, a kickoff, and a punt for a touchdown in the same season. He returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown at Indiana(Pa.). Next came a 47 yard punt return for six points vs. Mercyhurst. He closed out the season with a 91 yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Millersville. Shansky, Kibbie, Hartin Most Experienced Returning Starters Edinboro returns seven starters on offense and six on defense, but the Fighting Scots lost quite a bit of experience in Jacob Potts (42 career starts), Jaycen Watts (27), Domenic Principale (25), and Joe Sullivan (22). Of particular note is that three of those players were offensive linemen. All told, a combined 91 career starts is gone from an offensive line that reduced its sacks total from 57 sacks allowed in 2014 to 24 a year ago. Here are the leaders in career starts entering 2016: Mike Shansky (LB) 22 Josh Kibbie (DL) 21 Zack Hartin (OL) 20 Nick Helmick (TE) 17 DeVon Groves (DB) 16 Austin Mietz (LB) 14 R.J. Hughes (OL) 13 A Family Affair... The 2016 Edinboro roster currently has three sets of brothers on it. Three of those pairs were also on the team in 2015 Victor and Vincent Hudson, and Marshall and Michael Rizzuto. The Rolick s now become the third set of brothers, as twins Shane and Tyler join Sean Rolick, a senior. Including the Coaching Staff The family connections don t end with the players. The coaching staff also has a family feel to it. For starters, Justin Lustig added his father, Dr. Keith Lustig, as an assistant coach. Former Fighting Scot Kellen O Neill will serve as a graduate assistant, following in the footsteps of his father, Rege O Neill, who was part of the coaching staff under Denny Creehan in the early 1980 s. Finally, Matt Astorino is the newest member of the staff after completing his playing career at Gannon. His father, Gary, was a wrestler and long time assistant wrestling coach at Edinboro. Four Former Scots Part of Coaching Staff Justin Lustig s first coaching staff has a definite Edinboro flavor to it. No fewer than four former Fighting Scots are on the staff, including holdovers Jack Corey ( 13) and Joe Wanson ( 09), who joined the staff a year ago. Corey, a former offensive lineman, will serve as the offensive line coach, while Wanson, who played quarterback, is working with the wide receivers. Kellen O Neill ( 13) and Seth Hembree ( 13) are in their first seasons, instructing the running backs/special teams and tight ends, respectively. A fifth Edinboro graduate, Don Einhouse, did not play football for the Fighting Scots. He was a graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg last year, and now returns to serve as assistant defensive line coach. Wrestlers Make Their Marks as Gridders A trio of wrestlers could play a key role in how the defense performs in 2016. Sam Breese and Forrest Christmann both played a year ago, and figure to see plenty of action at defeneive end. Breese was a highly regarded wrestling recruit at Kent State who redshirted in 2014 15, then transferred to Edinboro just before training camp a year ago. He would finish as the sixth leading tackler with 42, and was second on the team with 7.5 tackles for losses. Christmann wrestled for Edinboro for two years before joining the football team last fall. His progress was hampered by a thumb injury which forced him to miss three games. The redshirt junior finished with 9 tackles. Corey Beck played for the Fighting Scots in 2014, totaling 36 tackles, 7 tackles for losses, and a pair of interceptions while playing in all 11 games at strong safety. A year ago, he turned to wrestling and competed at 197 lbs., along with starting at heavyweight against West Virginia. He ended with a 3 4 record. The (Cory) Bell Will Not Toll in 2016 2015 leading rusher Cory Bell is out indefinitely with an injury. The former transfer from ASA College finished with a team leading 522 yards on 112 carries in his first season as a Fighting Scots, with 3 TDs. Fighting Scots Football on Keystone Sports Network As always, all Edinboro football games will air on WFSE FM 88.5, Edinboro s student radio station.
