Johnson Coliseum All times listed are Central Standard Time QUICK HITS The Ladyjacks salvaged the first half of the Southland Conference season by winning three in a row to close the first nine-game stretch at 4-5. Now as the second half gets started on Saturday, SFA will have to find ways to win on the road as six of its final nine games of the year are away from home. A win on Saturday against HBU would give the Jacks their longest winning streak of 2015-16 and could potentially bump them up to fifth in the league standings. Three players set new milestones for the Ladyjacks in Thursday night s convincing 68-52 victory over rival Northwestern State in William R. Johnson Coliseum. Freshman guard Chanell Hayes notched a career-high with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting while leading SFA with seven rebounds. Senior guard Taylor Schippers matched Hayes 16 points with four three-pointers and a new season-best eight assists. Finally, sophomore forward Danielle Rogers, like Hayes, came off the bench and impacted the game in a big way, tying a career-high with 11 points in 22 minutes. Chanell Hayes has come on strong for the Ladyjacks in the last four games. After her career night on Thursday, she has scored in double figures in four straight contests, averaging 12.0 ppg in the span. In her previous 11 games for SFA, she averaged just 1.5 ppg. After going 4-of-5 from downtown last Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Hayes hit 3-of-5 beyond the arc on Thursday night. Combined, she boasts an impressive 70.0 three-point field goal percentage (7-of-10) her last two times out. Hot shooting and ball movement have been key components of SFA s current three-game winning streak. In the last three games, the Ladyjacks have shot 46.3 percent (75-of-162) from the field while posting a staggering 50.0 percent clip (28-of-56) from three-point range. SFA is also averaging 17.3 assists during the span up from a 9.0 assist per game average in the team s previous three losses. A LOOK AT HOUSTON BAPTIST The Ladyjacks are 7-1 all-time against the Huskies entering the ninth meeting between the two programs on Saturday afternoon. SFA won the first seven games in the young series, including two regular season victories last season, but dropped its first ever game to HBU in the 2015 Southland Conference Tournament semifinals. The top-seeded Ladyjacks built an 18-point lead in the first half in Katy, but couldn t fend off a furious rally by the Huskies. HBU shot 60.4 percent in the game to pull off the upset, and advanced to the tournament championship as the eight seed. Houston Baptist has had a steady start to SLC play, never winning or losing more than two in a row while hovering right around.500 throughout. The Huskies have won their last two, taking care of Sam Houston State at home 67-63 and winning on the road at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 73-59. HBU was picked to finish sixth in both preseason coaches and SID polls and currently sits in a tie for fifth. HBU is led by one of the best forwards in the SLC, senior Anna Strickland. In 20 games on the year, she is averaging 13.5 points and 13.4 rebounds per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and leading the team in blocks (37), assists (56) and steals (44). Rachel Arthur (12.5 ppg) and Monet Neal (12.3 ppg) are also averaging double figures this season. Johnson Coliseum, 68-52. Chanell Hayes and Taylor Schippers each scored 16 points, Taylor Ross added 14 and Danielle Rogers chipped in 11 points in SFA s third straight win. The Jacks used a 20-5 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away late in the contest. HOT SHOOTERS: SFA has shot the ball well over the first 20 games of the year. The Jacks 42.2 field goal percentage and 36.2 three-point field goal percentage are both tops in the SLC while their 3FG% is the 21st best in the country. Brentney Branch ranks third in the league and 50th nationally with a 40.0 3FG%. Taylor Ross ranks first in the league during SLC play with a 50.0 percent mark from deep (9-for-18). EMERGENCE OF A.D.: Junior center Adrienne Lewis has developed into a strong post presence in conference play, averaging 7.9 rebounds through nine league games. The mark is the sixth best in the SLC. Lewis has two double-doubles in 2016, including a 17-rebound, 10-point performance on Jan. 23 against Sam Houston State. DEFENSIVE PRESSURE: SFA s defensive pressure has given opposing teams fits all season long. The Jacks have forced at least 21 turnovers in three of the last six games and rank 38th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (19.2) overall on the season. SFA also sits 44th in the country in team steals per contest (10.0). CLOSE CALLS: With the exception of an 85-70 loss to first place Abilene Christian on Jan. 16, each SLC setback for SFA has come by single digits. The Jacks lost to Central Arkansas by two points, New Orleans by one and Lamar by four during a five-game slide from Jan. 4-21. For the season, SFA has lost seven games by 10 points or fewer. SHOULDERING THE LOAD: Junior guard Taylor Ross has shouldered a bulk of the scoring load this season and has stepped up even more since the Ladyjacks lost sophomore forward Stevi Parker for the season with an injury on Jan. 7. In six games since that date, Ross has scored in double figures in every game with an average of 17.3 ppg. She has two 20-point performances during the span and has six overall on the season. OFFENSIVE KEY: SFA has scored 70 or more points in three of its last five games and two of the last three. The Ladyjacks are just 1-9 when they score fewer than 64 points this year compared to a 9-1 mark when they tally 65 or more. SFA averages 66.0 points per game through 20 contests. THREE-POINT BARRAGE: SFA shot a staggering 76.5 percent from beyond the arc last Saturday afternoon, hitting 13-of-17 three-point attempts in a 71-66 road victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The three-point clinic proved to be the best single game performance in NCAA Division I women s basketball this season as the Ladyjacks 76.5 percent shooting mark from distance surpassed Cal State- Northridge s 75.0 percent effort to top the list. NEARING 1,000: Taylor Ross leads the team with 282 points this season and now has 945 points for her career. If she maintains her current 15.7 ppg seasonal average, she would join the coveted 1,000-point club this season on Feb. 18 at Lamar. KEY TO SUCCESS: Taylor Ross has established herself as one of the best scoring threats in the Southland Conference during her three-year career. She currently leads the Ladyjacks offensively with an average of 15.7 points per game. To begin the season, Ross scored in double figures in seven straight games and has done so a total of 15 times in 18 games overall. When she scores 20 or more points, SFA is a healthy 4-2. On the other hand, when she scores 12 or fewer, the Ladyjacks are just 2-5. BALANCED ATTACK: Through the first 20 games of the season, four Ladyjacks are averaging at least 9.9 points per game. Led by Taylor Ross 15.7 ppg, Brentney Branch (9.9 ppg), Stevi Parker (10.4 ppg) and Taylor Schippers (11.0 ppg) have consistently posted about 10 points a night. The four players are currently making up 70.6 percent of SFA s total scoring. SFA has gotten double digit scoring efforts from four players in eight different games this year, including Thursday night against NSU. FAST START FOR ROSS: Junior guard Taylor Ross got off to a fast start to the 2015-16 season, scoring at least 19 points in each of her first four games, including a career-high 28 points against SIUE in her first game of the year at the UMKC Tournament. Ross scored 23 points against Lamar two weeks ago for her sixth 20+ point performance of the year. She is averaging 15.7 points per game overall on the season the fourth best mark in the Southland Conference. 2014-15 Southland Conference Champions (16-2) 2014-15 WNIT First Round NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Ladyjacks have proven that William R. Johnson Coliseum is one of the toughest women s basketball venues to play in for visitors. Dating back to the beginning of last year, SFA is 22-5 at home. With a narrow loss against UTA on Dec. 1, SFA s 17-game home winning streak was snapped. It was the seventh-longest active home winning streak in the nation before the game. Nacogdoches is currently the 16th toughest city to play in, in all of division one women s college basketball. The Ladyjacks boast a 441-121 record at home since beginning play in 1972. SFA also recently had a 14-game home SLC winning streak broken by UCA three weeks ago. The Jacks had gone more than 700 days spanning three seasons without dropping a league home game before the defeat. UP NEXT: The Ladyjacks get to play two games in the friendly confines of William R. Johnson Coliseum next week. On Thursday night, SFA welcomes Incarnate Word to town for a 7:00 p.m. tip before @SFA_Athletics/@SFA_WBB #AxeEm Texas A&M-Corpus Christi makes the trip to Nacogdoches on Saturday for the annual Cram the Coliseum doubleheader. 3

Austin Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced the hiring of Mark Kellogg as the Ladyjacks new head women s basketball coach on May 11 prior to the 2015-16 season. Kellogg brings a tradition of winning to Nacogdoches as he has compiled a 250-65 (.794) record in 10 seasons as a head coach, including a 154-35 (.815) record in conference games and a 16-7 (.700) mark in NCAA tournament games. A four-time WBCA Regional Coach of the Year, Kellogg has guided his programs to six conference championships and seven NCAA tournament appearances and currently ranks as the fourth-winningest active coach at the Division II level. Needless to say, we are very excited to have Mark join us, said Hill. There is no doubt he is one of the best young coaches in the nation and his record speaks for itself. Mark has been a winner everywhere he has coached and also has great Texas recruiting ties, which was something we were looking for in a head coach. He inherits a good program but I truly believe he will elevate our women s basketball program. He and his family will also be a great addition to our SFA family as well as the Nacogdoches community. Kellogg comes to SFA from West Texas A&M where he spent two seasons as head coach, leading the Lady Buffs to a 62-6 record and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight as well as top-10 finishes. In 2013-14, Kellogg guided West Texas to a 32-3 record and a national runner-up showing, falling to Bentley in the NCAA championship game, ending the season ranked second nationally. This past season, the Lady Buffs went 30-3, advancing to the Elite Eight and were ranked sixth in the final postseason polls, earning Kellogg CaptainU National Coach of the Year honors. During his time in Canyon, Kellogg led West Texas to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history as the Lady Buffs led the nation in field goal percentage both years. The 2013-14 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, Kellogg guided WT to back-to-back LSC regular season and tournament titles, going 30-2 in conference play. Prior to his time in Canyon, Kellogg spent one season at Northwest Missouri State, leading the Bearcats to a 15-13 record in 2012-13, a nine-win improvement from the previous season. Picked to finish 15th in the MIAA standings, the Bearcats finished eighth, advancing to the quarterfinals of the MIAA tournament. Kellogg earned his first head coaching position at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he compiled a 173-46 (.790) record in seven seasons. The Skyhawks finished no worse than third in the RMAC during his time in Durango, capturing four regular season and two conference tournament titles. He led Fort Lewis to five-straight NCAA tournament appearances from 2007-08 to 2011-12, highlighted by a national runner-up finish in 2009-10 on the heels of a 35-4 season. A three-time RMAC Coach of the Year, Kellogg is the Skyhawks all-time leader in victories (173), conference victories (116), overall winning percentage (.790) and conference winning percentage (.834). He was named the WBCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011. In addition to his successes on the court, Kellogg has placed a major emphasis on success in the classroom as well. His teams were ranked among the WBCA Academic-Top 25 for five-straight seasons, including ranking first nationally in 2011 with a team GPA of 3.72. 37 of his players have earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors with a pair of Academic All-Americans. Before taking the helm at Fort Lewis, Kellogg spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Montana State from 2001-05. During his time in Bozeman, he helped lead the Bobcats to the Big Sky Championship in 2001-02 and 2002-03 as MSU compiled a 23-game home winning streak, third behind only Connecticut and Stanford during that span. Kellogg began his coaching career at West Texas A&M, spending two seasons as an assistant on the Buff men s team from 1998-2000. West Texas posted a 43-14 record during his two seasons on staff, winning the LSC title and advancing to the NCAA tournament in 1998-99. A native of Richardson, Texas, Kellogg earned two bachelor s degrees in communication arts and physical education from Austin College in 1998. He then earned his master s degree in sport and exercise science from West Texas A&M in 2000. Kellogg and his wife, Trisha, have two children an eight-year-old son, Camden, and a six-year-old daughter, Kayli. @SFA_Athletics/@SFA_WBB #AxeEm
