Race Schedule Saturday May 25, 2019 1:00-5:00 pm Pick Up Race Registration at Shoreline Orthodontics. 1530 Cliffe Ave Suite 100, Courtenay, BC Sunday May 26, 2019 Race Day 7:00 am 10:00am Place Bikes in Transition Area. ALL CATEGORIES - Except for Teeny & Inbetweeny 8:55 am Opening Ceremony Participants arriving after the Race starts at 9am, will need to follow instructions from Transition Zone personal on placing their Bikes. 9:00 am Race start for Sprint, Aquabike & Just Tri It Divisions - Arrive at the pool early to get your numbers painted on and organized into heats. 10:30 am Race start for Mini Divisions Race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 or as soon as Sprint divisions are finished in the pool. - Arrive at the pool early to get your numbers painted on and organized into heats. 11:45 am Race Start for Inbetweeny Division - Place bikes in designated area by Vanier School end of the pool. 12:15 pm Race Start for Teeny Division - Place bikes in designated area by Vanier School end of the pool. 1:00 pm Awards (will start as soon as results are available) You must be present to be eligible for draw prizes. 2
RULES APPLYING TO ALL SEGMENTS OF THE RACE 1. Limited number of vehicles will be allowed to park at the Comox Valley Sports Centre PLEASE NOTE THAT VANIER SCHOOL PARKING LOT will be CLOSED! 2. Race Officials have ultimate and final authority and will remove a participant from the Race if the participant has violated the Rules of the race. 3. Medical personnel have ultimate and final authority to remove a participant from the Race, if in their opinion, he or she is incapable of continuing the Race without sustaining severe physical damage, injury or loss of life. 4. Fair play will be expected of all participants. Profanity or any abuse of the volunteers will not be tolerated. 5. The Race Committee reserves the right to make changes to the course or the rules if they deem necessary. 6. You must be present to be eligible for draw prizes at the awards ceremony. Complete Unofficial Race Results will be available online at www.trik.ca within two hours of the completion of the awards ceremony. We will endeavor to have Official results available by noon on May 27, 2019 at www.trik.ca. 3
Sprint Rules For complete TriBC Rules and Kids of Steel (KOS) rules, please download those rules (in our download section) Please read these rules as they effect equipment for juniors. SWIM (Sprint, Just Tri-It, Aquabike and Mini Distance) 1. Swimmers must be able to complete the required distance with any kind of stroke. 2. Swimmers will be seeded in heats by their estimated swim time. The number of your heat is provided in your race package and will be posted at the Comox Valley Sports Centre sunday morning. You must be ready to start when your heat is called. No exceptions and/or excuses. The Race Organizers will provide lap counters. 3. Swimmers will be required to wear the colour coded swim cap provided in your race package for timing identification purposes. 4. Swimmers will be required to have race officials mark Race Number on both shoulders and back. Number may be washed off after the swim but must remain on for the swim portion. 5. If you leave the pool for assistance you will be disqualified. BIKE (Sprint, Just Tri-It, Aquabike and Mini Distance) For complete TriBC Rules and Kids of Steel (KOS) rules, please download those rules (in our download section) Please read these rules as they effect equipment for juniors. 1. There is to be no riding in the Transition Zone. Athletes must walk their bikes in the Transition Zone until told by a race official when they can mount their bike. Anyone riding their bike in the Transition Zone maybe disqualified immediately. 2. Each Participant must wear Race Numbers at all times while on course. Numbers must be placed where they are clearly visible AT ALL TIMES. 3. Cyclists must heed directions and instructions of Race Officials. 4. Cyclists are individually responsible for following Traffic Laws and are solely responsible for the consequences of any infractions. 5. All Cyclists must wear a Helmet. 4
RUN (Sprint, Just Tri-It, and Mini Distance) For complete TriBC Rules and Kids of Steel (KOS) rules, please download those rules (in our download section) Please read these rules as they effect equipment for juniors. 1. Runner must wear race numbers at all times on the course. Race numbers must be worn so that they are visible to timers. 2. Runners must follow the directions and instructions of all Race Officials and obey the Rules of the Road. 3. We are utilizing the trail system of the Courtenay Exhibition Grounds. Please note the trails may be slippery in places and watch for horses. There may be other activities happening in the Grounds area so be careful when running in this area. NOTE: If you are doing the 5k event, ALL runners MUST complete 2 laps of the trail circuit (where marked). JUST TRI-IT RULES As this is a non-competitive event, you are encouraged to do the whole distance at your own pace, but if you feel that you cannot complete the required distance, you may stop at any time and proceed to the next leg of the event. Your times will not be published in the official results but you are welcome to email us if you are curious. TEAM RULES The Swimmer will wear the timing chip during their swim and hand it over to the Cyclist in the transition area. The Cyclist will put the timing chip on their left ankle facing out before starting the cycle leg of the course. The Cyclist will then hand the timing chip to the runner who will put the timing chip on their left ankle facing out and start the running leg of the course. After finishing the course, the runner will return the timing chip to the race official at the finish line. 5
Inbetweeny & Teeny Place your bikes in the designated area at the south end of the pool, closest to Vanier School. It is suggested that your bike have a kick stand as there are no racks for your bike in this area. This area is called the Transition Zone as it is where you will change from swimming to biking during the Race. DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE DOWN TO THE TRACK Place your towel, helmet, foot wear and clothing you will be wearing after the swim, beside your bike. Proceed into the Sports Centre to the tables on the pool deck marked NUMBERING. Here athletes will have a number written on each shoulder in felt pen if they so desire. Athletes are to stay with parents or guardians until told by Race Officials that race is commencing. Athletes are asked to stay off the pool deck until the Race starts. INBETWEENY- SWIM RULES Race will begin at approximately 11:45 pm. Race Officials will assist athletes into the shallow end of the pool. Participants are required to swim two lengths of the pool without assistance. Any type of stroke may be used. No fins, snorkels, paddles or flutter boards of any kind are permitted. Swim goggles or face masks may be worn. Athletes and one parent/guardian will exit the pool via the fire exit doors and immediately proceed to their bikes. All other spectators must use the main lobby entrance. This will be strictly enforced. TEENY- SWIM RULES Race will begin at approx.12:15 pm. Race Officials will assist athletes into the shallow end of the pool. Teeny participants are required to swim across and back at the shallow end of the pool. Any type of stroke may be used. Life Guards and volunteers will be in the pool for assistance. No fins, snorkels or paddles of any kind are permitted. Flutter boards will be available for use if required. Athletes and ONE parent/guardian will exit the pool via the fire exit doors and 6
immediately proceed to their bikes. All other spectators must use the main lobby entrance. This will be strictly enforced. BIKE RULES (both categories) Athletes are allowed assistance at this point to prepare for the bike and run portion of the race. Once ready to ride, walk your bike towards the end of the Transition Zone and Race Officials will direct you onto the bike course. At the end of the bike course, set bike to side in designated area. RUN RULES (both categories) Run down the all weather court towards the track following Race Officials directions. Proceed to run around the track and end the race at the Finish Line. Collect your Winners Ribbon from Race Officials at the Finish. After the Race you may proceed to the food area and enjoy refreshments of water, muffins and fruit. This is a fun event and no times will be given out. Everyone who participates in this event is a winner! 7
