014-15 Liberty University Women s Basketball Game No. 31 Big South Women s Basketball Championship Semifinal No. 1 seed Liberty (4-6) vs. No. 5 seed Campbell (19-11) March 7, 015 6 p.m. The HTC Center (Conway, S.C.) The Coaches Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is 381-17 in his 16 th season at Liberty, including 8- against Campbell. His teams are 40-3 all-time in the Big South Championship. Campbell Head Coach Wanda Watkins is 536-44 in her 34 th season with the Lady Camels, including 13-15 versus Liberty. Series History Liberty is 15-13 all-time against Campbell, after winning both regular-season matchups with the Lady Camels this season. Liberty was the only visiting Big South team to win at Campbell s Gore Arena this season and was the only Big South squad to sweep the regular-season series from the Lady Camels. Liberty is -1 all-time against Campbell in the Big South Championship, including 1-1 in the semifinal round. Campbell eliminated Liberty from its first-ever Big South Women s Basketball Championship, recording a 73-68 victory over the Lady Flames in the 199 semifinals. Liberty then gained a measure of revenge the next season, with a 66-57 triumph over Campbell in the 1993 quarterfinals. The most recent Big South Championship meeting between the Lady Flames and Lady Camels came in the 013 semifinal round, March 9, 013 at The HTC Center. Devon Brown s 5 points and 14 rebounds helped No. 1 seed Liberty come back from an early 11-point deficit to defeat No. 5 seed Campbell, 70-56. 014-15 Matchup #1 Jan. 4, 015 Liberty 64, Campbell 40 Vines Center (Lynchburg, Va.) Liberty took the lead for good during a 13-0 first-half run. Campbell shot only 4.6 percent (14-of-57) from the field and its 40 points equaled the Lady Camels season low. Liberty owned sizeable advantages in rebounds (51-36), points in the paint (36-1) and second-chance points (1-8). Ashley Rininger set a program single-game field goal percentage record (9.9 percent, 13-of- 14) as part of a 7-point, 10-rebound game for the Lady Flames. Karly Buer added 10 points for Liberty, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career during the first half.

Liberty broke open a back-and-forth game with an 18-0 run, spanning both halves. Campbell cut a 16-point second-half deficit to one, but the Lady Flames held on for a victory in both teams regular-season finale. The decision halted the Lady Camels nine-game home winning streak and made Liberty the only visiting Big South squad to leave Buies Creek with a win this season. Karly Buer led all players with 19 points, shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range. Sadalia Ellis scored 13 of her career-high 18 points during the second half, including nine during the final 3:41. Ashley Rininger chipped in 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Flames. Campbell was led by RaeChaun Edwards (15 points, 5 steals) and Kiera Gaines (10 points). Big South Championship Notes Liberty has reached the Big South Championship semifinal round for the 19 th consecutive year. The Lady Flames are 16-4 all-time in the Big South semifinals. Liberty is 46- in the Big South Championship when favored according to seed. Liberty has not gone back-to-back seasons without playing in the Big South Championship title game since winning its first conference championship in 1997. The Lady Flames have reached the Big South Championship title game in 13 of Carey Green s first 15 seasons as head coach, winning 1 titles. Liberty is 8-1 all-time at The HTC Center and 55-7 when playing in South Carolina under Carey Green. Trends and Streaks Liberty has won a season-high 1 straight games and 18 of its last 19 contests. The Lady Flames have won six consecutive games away from the Vines Center. The Lady Flames are 11-1 when playing on Saturday this season, including eight straight victories. Liberty has held 61 straight opponents below 50 percent shooting from the field. Liberty has outrebounded 19 consecutive opponents and has outscored each of those 19 squads in the paint as well. Liberty has scored more bench points than its opponent in 10 straight games. A Look Back at Thursday s 59-51 Win Over UNC Asheville After trailing No. 8 seed UNC Asheville by 11 points during the first half of Thursday afternoon's 015 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinal matchup, No. 1 seed Liberty roared back to claim a hard-fought 59-51 victory. Liberty improved to 4-6 despite shooting just 3.3 percent (1-of-65) from the field and making a season-low one three-pointer. The Lady Flames have now won 1 straight games overall and improve to 7-0 all-time against the Bulldogs during the Big South Championship, after equaling their largest comeback win this season. Liberty also improves to 6-4 when trailing at halftime this season. Asheville's season ended at 9- despite the fine efforts of Shonese Jones (game-high points) and KJ Weaver (10 points, game-high 13 rebounds). The Bulldogs shot just 7.6 percent (8-of-9) after the intermission while suffering their third loss to the Lady Flames this season. Asheville made seven of its first nine field goal attempts to start the game, taking a 16-8 lead on Chatori Major's three-pointer from the right wing at 13:03. Conversely, Liberty made just 5 of its first 5 field goals. The Bulldogs took their aforementioned 11-point advantage (8-17) after the second of backto-back layups by Jones dropped through the hoop, 4:46 before halftime. Emily Frazier helped the Lady Flames get back into the game by scoring eight points during Liberty's half-closing 10- surge. As a result, the deficit had closed to three (30-7) by the intermission. After being limited to four first-half points, Ashley Rininger scored six straight tallies during an 8-0 Liberty run early in the second period. Her layup at the 16:53 mark of the second half gave the Lady Flames their first lead of the day at 33-3. The lead changed hands two times before Liberty went on top for good on a spinning threepoint play by Frazier at 9:37. Liberty made 10 of its 14 free throw attempts during the second half, helping the Lady Flames improve to 8-3 in games decided by 10 points or fewer this season. The Lady Flames utilized their size advantage to the tune of a 49-38 rebounding advantage and edges in points in the paint (34-4) and second-chance points (18-6). Liberty has now outrebounded 19 straight opponents. Liberty also did a good job taking care of the basketball, committing a season-low six turnovers on the afternoon. Rininger, who scored 10 of her 14 points during the second half, added 11 rebounds for her 11 th double-double of the season and the 30 th of her career. Frazier contributed 11 points, six assists and only one turnover. Karly Buer added 11 points of her own for the Lady Flames.

Updated Player Notes #3 Sadalia Ellis During Thursday s win over Asheville, she finished with seven points (including the Lady Flames only made three-pointer), a career high-equaling five rebounds, three assists and a game-high three steals.
