Game #19 at Valparaiso (4-15, 0-6 HL) January 29, 2015 7:05 p.m. CT Valparaiso, Indiana ARC @gbphoenixwbb FINDING MOMENTUM The Phoenix has now won six games in a row, its longest streak of the season. The six-game winning streak is familiar territory for the program, as it has now gone 17-consecutive seasons with at least a six-game winning streak. The last year in which the Phoenix did not record a W6 was in 1998-99 when the team s longest streak was only five wins in a row. The team s longest streak last year was eight wins in a row, a number the Phoenix can tie with two more wins this weekend at Valparaiso and at UIC. DURING THE W6 During the recent run of six wins in a row, Green Bay is enjoying a +15.3 scoring margin thanks to a 65.0 points per game average and a scoring defense that s only allowing 49.7 points per game. In conference games alone, the Phoenix is allowing a league-best 51.6 points per game, the only team in the league to be allowing fewer than 60 points a contest. Mehryn Kraker and Sam Terry have done the scoring damage for GB, averaging 11.0 and 10.0 PPG, respectively MAGIC NUMBERS When Green Bay has allowed less than 60 points in a game this season, it is a perfect 11-0. On the offensive end of the floor, the Phoenix holds another perfect 7-0 record when it scores 70 or more points. GB has allowed fewer than 60 points in all but one conference game this season (61 at Cleveland State) and has scored 60 or more points in all five conference games. Going into this weekend the Phoenix is also a perfect 11-0 when playing on either Thursday or Saturday, which GB will be playing on in its next two games. vs VALPO Green Bay will enter Thursday s game with a 16-game winning streak all-time versus the Crusaders. GB is 31-4 (.886) all-time overall against Valparaiso and has not lost to them since Jan. 19, 2008. During its run of 16 wins in a row in the series, Green Bay has won those games by an average of 23.6 points per game. The closest game during that stretch came last season when GB won by only four (53-49) points at Valparaiso. APPROACHING NO. 600 One of the most successful coaches in women s basketball history continues to climb up the win column. Head coach Kevin Borseth has now amassed 594 wins in his coaching career, after adding 15 this season. That leaves Borseth six wins away from 600 career victories, an accomplished milestone. Entering the season Borseth ranked 26th in winning percentage among active coaches and 18th in victories. He also began the season 32nd all-time in women s coaching victories. An impressive record considering the difficulty of playing consecutive road games with minimal days off. The most recent situation came in 2012-13, when his Phoenix went 4-0 during a four-game road trip that started at Cleveland State and ended at Wright State. Green Bay s closest game during that stretch was a three-point victory over the Vikings to open up the trip. GB would go on to win the final three games of the trip by 18, 23 and 22 points respectively. REBOUNDING REVENGE Since Green Bay was outrebounded by 12 at Dayton in a loss, it has gone four of six games with a double-digit plus rebounding average. Most recently, Green Bay edged out Cleveland State 31-27 on the boards and Detroit by one 29-28. Against Milwaukee, the Phoenix set its season high in rebounds and rebounding margin and has totaled a +61 rebounding average over that five game stretch. Green Bay has gone 5-0 in those games and has been outrebounded in eight games this season, but has managed a 5-3 record in those contests. CONTINUED PRESSURE The Phoenix has continued to force its opponents into turnovers and bad shots. Green Bay currently boasts a +5.6 advantage in turnover margin, forcing its opposition into 19.4 turnovers per game. GB is only averaging 13.8 turnovers per game itself. BUCK S BACK The reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year is picking up in 2014-15 where she left off in 2013-14. Buck is second on the Phoenix with her 10.4 PPG, she knocked down six three-pointers and tied her career high in points with 24 against Duquesne at home back on 11-22. It s early yet, but Buck is dismissing any notion of a sophomore slump. SCORING SURVIVES The Phoenix returns 76 percent of its scoring from last season, including four players who averaged 9.0 PPG or more. Brennah Ranger s departure leaves a void of 10.8 PPG that she averaged last season, but Megan Lukan (9.0 PPG in 13-14) and Mehryn Kraker (9.5 PPG in 13-14) will both be expected to up their averages into double figures this season. All 12 Phoenix played in the game with 10 denting the scoring column, including four in double digits and 33 points from its reserves. It marked the eighth time this season Green Bay had 10 or more players score, as it moved its overall record to 21-8 on the season. Green Bay dominated play in the paint, outscoring the visitors 38-8 in the category while also receiving a 33-8 advantage from its reserves and a 28-11 edge in points off turnovers. The Phoenix finished the game shooting 45.8 percent (27-59) from the field. Valpo was 38.0 percent from the field (19-50) and 44.8 percent from deep (13-29) fueled by a game-high 18 points by Carr, who finished 6-for-11 from long range. Senior Breannah Ranger (Skokie, Ill.) contributed a game-best seven rebounds, while Megan Lukan totaled a game-high five assists and three steals in addition to her team-leading 12 points. Senior guard Megan Lukan (Barrie, Ontario), who earned Horizon League All-Defensive Team honors last season, will be the floor general for the Phoenix. Her younger sister, Kaili Lukan (Barrie, Ontario), will again look to lead the offensive attack after leading the team in scoring a season ago (11.5 PPG). Add in Tesha Buck (Red Wing, Minn.), last year s Horizon League Freshman of the Year, and Mehryn Kraker (West Allis, Wis.), who came on late in the season and also landed on the All- Freshman, and you have a quartet of guards who can pretty much do it all. PHOENIX FRESHMEN A class that is filled with scorers, rebounders and ball handlers, Green Bay s freshman group is one of the best in program history, at least on paper. Jessica Lindstrom (Superior, Wis.), Allie LeClaire (Green Bay, Wis.), Laken James (Oconto, Wis.) and Jen Wellnitz (South Wayne, Wis.) each graduated their respected high schools as the program s all-time leader in multiple categories. Throw in numerous state championships and a handful of All-State selections and you have a class with as high of expectations as any other in the history of the program. IN THE PAINT Mariah Monke (Fergus Falls, Minn.) will hope to control the paint in 2014-15, after leading the team in blocks last year with 18. Monke may assume a starting role after appearing in 30 games last year as a redshirt-freshman, starting in five of them. Sam Terry (Baraboo, Wis.), one of the team s solid three-point shooters, will also give a high volume of minutes, as will Lexi Weitzer (Waukesha, Wis.), Green Bay s other solid post presence. OFF THE BENCH A recently-named senior, Ellen Edison (Maple Grove, Minn.), who will now graduate in the spring of 2015, returns as the team s leading scorer off the bench. Edison appeared in 29 games for Green Bay and averaged 5.2 PPG as a trustworthy guard. The senior will look to provide a spark off the bench or in the starting lineup, after averaging 18.1 MPG last year. RECEIVING VOTES In the first edition (preseason) of the 2014-15 Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Green Bay was receiving votes. The Phoenix was one of only four mid-major schools to receive a vote, and if counted down after No. 25, the Phoenix would check in at No. 48 in the country. KEVIN BORSETH Third Season (12 years total at Green Bay) 282-78 27th Season Overall 594-248 Kevin Borseth is entering his third season in his second stint at the helm of the Green Bay women s basketball program in 2014-15. Last season, Borseth led a young Green Bay squad to its 16th-consecutive Horizon League title and 27th all-time 20+ win season en route to being named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his 11 years at the helm. He also coached the Horizon League Freshman of the Year Tesha Buck in addition to second team all-league honoree Kaili Lukan. In 2012-13, Borseth led the Phoenix to an overall record of 29-3 and a perfect 16-0 in the Horizon League, the team s 36th-straight winning season and 15th consecutive regular season Horizon League title. The team also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time under his guidance. Borseth s overall record at Green Bay stands at 267-75 and 154-16 in the Horizon League. In 16 seasons as a D-I head coach with stops at Green Bay and the University of Michigan, Borseth is 354-148. All told, the 27-year head coaching veteran has an impressive record of 579-245 in his stints at Michigan Tech (1987-1998), Green Bay (1998-2007; 2012-present) and Michigan (2007-2012). Green Bay Athletics Director Ken Bothof announced the hiring of Kevin Borseth as the head women s basketball coach on April 5, 2012. Borseth, who compiled a 216-62 record in nine seasons previously serving in the same capacity at Green Bay, returned to the Phoenix after spending the previous five seasons as the head coach at the University of Michigan. Under Borseth s watch from 1998-2007, Green Bay advanced to the postseason in all nine seasons, including seven trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix also won the regular season conference championship in each of his nine seasons at the helm, beginning a stretch that currently stands at 15. Borseth compiled an overall record of 87-73 record during his five seasons as the head coach at the University of Michigan, taking over a program that had won just 21 games in the prior three seasons combined and led the Wolverines to 19 wins and a postseason berth in his first season in 2007-08. In five seasons at the helm at Michigan, Borseth led the Wolverines to three postseasons, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012, the program s first since 2000-01. During his time at Green Bay, Borseth was named the conference coach of the year seven times and led the program to its first two NCAA Tournament victories with wins over Washington in 2003 and New Mexico in 2007. He also recruited recent standouts Celeste Hoewisch, Kayla Tetschlag and Julie Wojta to Green Bay and coached Hoewisch during her redshirt campaign in 2006-07. Borseth graduated from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., in 1976 with a bachelor s degree in business administration. As a member of the Laker basketball roster, Borseth helped his team to a 27-3 record over two years as well as a 1976 NAIA championship berth. Prior to his time at LSSU, Borseth attended Gogebic Community College and played for the Samson basketball team. Borseth and his wife Connie have five children; KC, Kayla, Carli, Kaitlyn and Kale.

AMANDA SARA BRONK Assistant Coach Eighth Season In her eighth season on staff, Sarah Bronk is the longest-tenured member of the current Green Bay women s basketball coaching staff. Praised as one of the top recruiters in the Midwest, Bronk serves as the primary recruiting coordinator for Green Bay. In addition, she works with Prior to her time at Green Bay, she coached girls basketball and softball for six years at Dover-Eyota High School in Minnesota. She also served as a coach at Winona Cotter and St. Peter high schools, both in Minnesota, and led the Rochester Shock U17 AAU team for two years. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. in 1999 after a successful softball career. Bronk was a three-year letterwinner for the Tommies, helping her team appear in two NCAA regionals. Prior to attending St. Thomas, she graduated from Winona Cotter High School in 1995. Known for her laugh and extremely outgoing personality, Bronk resides in Green Bay and enjoys spending her free time with her nieces and nephews. She also loves a variety of outdoor activities including camping and four-wheeling. She can also frequently be found on the Kress Center s racquetball courts. LEONHARD-PERRY Assistant Coach Seventh Season One of Borseth s former players, Amanda Leonhard-Perry is in her seventh season as an assistant coach at Green Bay. Her primary duties include film breakdown, recruiting and working with the team s guards. She enjoyed a successful career at Green Bay from 1999-2002, and graduated as the program s best free throw shooter with a 84.7 percent mark for her career. She made 283 shots from the charity stripe in her four years, good for the seventh-best mark in program history. All told, she finished with 1,097 career points, 332 assists, 189 steals and 114 3-pointers while earning academic all-conference honors in 2001 and 2002. Upon graduating, Leonhard-Perry accepted an assistant coach position at North Dakota State, where she served for three seasons. She helped the Bison through its transition to Division I and was a key part of the 2007-08 NDSU team that finished 12-6 in conference play in its first season in the Summit League. She joined then-head coach Matt Bollant s staff for the 2008-09 season, and for Borseth it was a no brainer to retain her upon taking over this season. Leonhard-Perry has played a pivotal role in the development of standout guard Megan Lukan as a role model and mentor. A native of Ladysmith, Wis., Leonhard- Perry graduated cum laude from Green Bay in 2003 with a degree in business administration. She resides in Green Bay with her husband, Ray Perry, and their daughter. 1,850 career points and also notched 194 career 3-point field goals and 783 career rebounds, good for the thirdand fifth-best marks in program history. During her time with the program, she was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American with a 3.8 cumulative GPA and a top 30 Finalist for the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. ALEX ANTONEN Director of Basketball Operations Second Season Entering his second year at Green Bay is Director of Basketball Operations Alex Antonen. MEGAN VOGEL Assistant Coach Second Season Entering her second season as assistantant coach is Megan Vogel. She came to Green Bay from St. Cloud State where she served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for three seasons. Vogel started all 120 of the Jackrabbits contests during her standout four-year career. She finished second all-time on the program s scoring list with Following her standout career with the Jackrabbits, Vogel became the first SDSU alum to be selected in the WNBA Draft when she was selected 19th overall in the second round by the Washington Mystics in 2007. She was released during training camp prior to the 2007 campaign, but remained with the team as an intern and practice player for the season while helping with film breakdown and scouting opponents. She also played one year professionally with the WWK Donau Ries in the German 1st League. A 2007 graduate of South Dakota State, Vogel received a degree in Health, physical education and recreation. She returned to South Dakota State in August 2007 as a graduate assistant coach while also completing her master s degree in sports pedagogy with an emphasis in sports administration. Antonen brought more than four years of combined NCAA and WNBA experience to his new position. A 2013 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Antonen served as the student manager for the Golden Gophers women s basketball team all four years of his collegiate career. During his time with the program, he aided the coaching staff with film exchange and breakdown, running practices and scouting opponents. While at Minnesota he also worked as a basketball operations and video intern for the Minnesota Lynx, and was a member of the staff during the team s 2011 WNBA Championship season. In his two years with the Lynx, Antonen helped the coaching staff run practice, broke down game film, assisted with scouting and worked directly with the director of operations to fulfill the team s equipment needs. In addition to his experience at Minnesota and with the Lynx, he served as a camp counselor at North Dakota State in 2011 and 2012 where he assisted the coaching staff with the program s summer women s basketball camp.
