Fall Arrest Equipment Health and safety legislation states that fall protection measures must be put in place for any person working at a height of two metres or more where a fall hazard exists. If it is not feasible to eliminate the hazard using a collective system, then a personal protective equipment system must be selected and used, be it a restraint, work positioning or fall arrest product. This system consists of a full body harness, an intermediate attachment and an anchorage connector. The systems can only be used if a suitable anchorage point is located close to the area. Rope or Webbing Lanyards The choice is primarily one of preference as they both offer the same high level of performance. Rope Lanyards Can become rigid and difficult to handle when dirty - but offer great durability and a longer working life than webbing. Webbing Lanyards Are more lightweight, visible and easier to handle than rope - but offer less durability. Arrest Product Selection Lanyards Maximum length two metres. For work requiring limited movement. Fall Arrest Blocks 2.5-40m. Automatic retractable cable allows freedom of movement. For workers who need to move relatively quickly up and down on a worksite. The automatic braking system arrests a fall in seconds. Rope Grabs For freedom to move around an elevated worksite (this could be horizontal or vertical, fixed or flexible). In the event of a fall, the guided type fall arrester grabs onto the anchorage line and arrests the fall - resulting in limited travel. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 came into force on 6 April 2005. The Regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury. They place duties on employers, the self-employed, and any person that controls the work of others (for example facilities managers or building owners who may contract others to work at height. The Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007 which came into force on 6 April 2007 apply to those who work at height providing instruction or leadership to one or more people engaged in caving or climbing by way of sport, recreation, team building or similar activities in Great Britain. As part of the Regulations, duty holders must ensure: all work at height is properly planned and organised; those involved in work at height are competent; the risks from work at height are assessed and appropriate work equipment is selected and used; Page 1946 Work at Height Regulations 2005 the risks from fragile surfaces are properly inspected and maintained. There is a simple hierarchy for managing and selecting equipment for work at height. Duty holders must: avoid work at height where they can; use work equipment or other measures to prevent falls where they cannot avoid working at height; and where they cannot eliminate the risk of a fall, use work equipment or other measures to minimise the distance and consequences of a fall should one occur. The Regulations include schedules giving requirements for existing places of work and means of access for work at height, collective fall prevention (eg guardrails and working platforms), collective fall arrest (eg nets, airbags, etc), personal fall protection (eg work restraints, fall arrest and rope access) and ladders.

Lanyard Block Retractable Energy Absorbing Lanyard Block Retractable mini web block The unit connects directly onto a fall arrest harness. Locks on with decelerating brake action in the event of a fall and recoils the lanyard when slack is introduced to reduce trip hazards. Compact design, built in shock pack. Working length: 2.5m. Max fall arrest force: 6KN. (L x W x D): 100 x 110 x 75mm. Certified to: CE 0320, EN364, EN360. The TuffSafe range of fall arrest harnesses are lightweight, durable manufactured from 45mm water repellent polyester webbing with rip stitch fall indicators, ideal for all day comfort and dependability. Fully adjustable for easy fitting, all fittings are made from high tensile steel alloy. All TuffSafe harnesses are certified to: CE 0320, EN361, EN358, EN364.
