Springfest 2013: Walking Red April 15-19 Student Organization Spirit Contest Are you ready to show your Cougar Pride for this year s Springfest Spirit Contest? This year s contest will have two categories: Student Organizations and Greek Life organizations. The organization with the most points in each category will win a $400 prize and second place will receive $200. The winners will be announced Friday, April 19 at the Walking RED Day Party. A complete roster of your organization s membership must be turned in with the completed Springfest Spirit Contest application. An organization is not registered for Springfest events unless the roster has been received. 2. Only persons appearing on your organization s roster will count towards attendance. 3. No one may check in more than one person for Springfest Spirit Contest Attendance Points. 4. Individuals may be asked for proof of identification. Encourage all members to have their SIUE student ID at all events. 5. Participating organizations are required to sign up for at least seven events to be eligible for the spirit contest. 6. Four prizes will be awarded to four different organizations, two Greek Life organizations that are affiliated with CPC, IFC, or NPHC and two registered student organizations. 7. Organizations that sign up for an event and do not show on the day of the event during Springfest week will be charged $5 for each missed event. Chalk Mural Contest: 1. Each organization will be given a marked off location on the quad that is approximately 5 x8 in dimension. Locations will be marked off by 12:00pm on Sunday, April 14. Locations are available on a first come, first served basis. 2. Murals must be drawn in regular drawing chalk. NO SPRAY CHALK OR PAINT CHALK IS ALLOWED! 3. Organizations must provide their own chalk. 4. Murals must include the Springfest 2013: Walking Red theme and the organization s name. 5. Organizations must have completed their entry by 12:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2013 to be considered for the Spirit Contest. 6. Judging will take place at 2pm on Monday, April 15, 2013. 7. In the event of rain on Monday, April 15, it will be the organization s responsibility to make sure their mural is ready on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 by 2pm for judging. If there are additional rain days, it will push back the judging to the following day.

8. The winning entry will be announced in the Kimmel Leadership Center on the wipe off board behind the front desk by 4:30pm on April 15. 9. Any inappropriate or indecent themes or artwork included in the mural will result in the disqualification of the group from the spirit contest. Further sanctions may be applied as deemed necessary by the staff advisor of Springfest. Trivia Tournament 1. Teams must have at least five participants and no more than eight participants for the duration of the event. 2. Event will consist of seven rounds of trivia with ten questions each. At least one round will consist of relevance to zombies and an additional one for SIUE history. 3. Groups may come up with a zombie related name to be entered into a separate contest for extra points. 4. Organizations may only sponsor one team for this event, and all participants must appear on the organization s roster. 5. There will be a separate cash prize offered for this event that will be open to all participants (not just those participating in the spirit contest). Organizations are also eligible to win this prize. 6. No outside food or drink maybe be brought to this event (food purchased from the MUC is allowed). 7. The judges will have final say on all questions. 8. Groups must complete a separate Trivia Tournament Registration form to enter this event (included in packet). Food Eating Contest 1. Each organization may have up to two participants and each participant earns 10 points for a maximum of 20 points per organization. 2. Participants will be allotted a specified amount of time to eat the provided food. 3. Judges will determine the winner based on how much of the ingredients is left at the end of the allotted time. Zombie Scavenger Hunt: 1. Specific rules will be provided the day of the event. 2. Each organization may only have one team comprised of four people. 3. All members must travel on foot to each location. No alternate transportation may be used, and violators will be disqualified. 4. Members may not consult any outside sources to find the locations. Killer Karaoke: 1. Organizations may sponsor one participant for the Karaoke Contest. 2. One alternate will be allowed for final round. 3. The sponsored participant must appear on the organization s roster provided to the Springfest committee. 4. First round will consist of a song of the participant s choice. 5. The top four individuals will proceed to the final round. 6. In the final round, the participant may sing alone or may sing a duet with the other person from the organization. 7. Songs for the final round will be selected by the judges and will be relevant to Springfest theme. 8. Participants must have their song selected and be ready to sing by 11am on Wednesday, April 17. The contest will start promptly at 11:15am. Participants who are not present with a selected song (submitted to the karaoke company) by 11:15am will not be allowed to participate. 9. Judging will be based on talent, showmanship, and knowledge of the words to the songs. Costumes are allowed and should adhere to the Springfest theme. However, any participant dressed in inappropriate attire will be disqualified. 10. Winners will be announced immediately following the final round judging.

Survivor on the Quad: 1. Groups will be asked to participate in a series of events. Specific event details will be provided via email to each group no later than Friday, April 12, 2013. 2. Each organization may only have one team comprised of four people. 3. The events for this year s Survivor on the Quad will be unique and not performed in the past. Events may include eating, drinking, and physical activity and participants should be prepared for any type of event. 4. All participants should wear old clothing and shoes. Movie and Costume Contest: 1. Points will be assigned on the basis of the percentage of your total membership in attendance at this event. Only members included on the provided roster will count towards the percentage, and up to thirty points will be awarded. Members of your organization must check in upon arrival at the event. 2. Individuals are expected to stay for the entire movie. Attendance WILL be checked again at the conclusion of the event. 3. Participants in the Springfest themed costume contest must register upon arrival at the event. Organizations can receive points for up to six participants. 4. All costumes should be zombie/monster themed and will be judged on originality and creativity. 5. Absolutely no nudity will be permitted. Any inappropriate or indecent costumes will result in disqualification of the group from the spirit contest. Further sanctions may be applied as deemed necessary by the faculty advisor of Springfest. Springfest Booth Participation 1. Groups will be awarded 25 points if they sign up for a booth for the student organization fair on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18. 2. Booths must be staffed from 10AM-2PM on BOTH days to be awarded points. 3. Groups must follow all guidelines as outlined in the Booth Registration Packet. 4. Groups may sell items, give out information, sponsor a game, etc. Monster Mash 1. This event will be a performance (i.e. group dance and/or lip sync, etc). Points will be awarded for creativity. 2. Organizations may only sponsor one team for this event, and all participants must appear on the organization s roster provided to the Springfest committee. 3. Teams must have at least five participants and no more than eight participants for the duration of the event. 4. The time length for each performance should be 3-5 minutes. 5. Any and all music that will be used in the performance MUST be submitted and approved no later than Monday, April 15, 2013. Participants may either submit music in person to Kimmel Leadership Center or e-mail it to Heidi Schillinger at hschill@siue.edu. 6. Each group will be judged based on relevance to theme (i.e. monster/zombie related). More points will be awarded to those groups especially creative with their costumes and make-up. 7. A fan favorite will be selected based on cheers and applause from the audience at the end of the event.

Food purchased from the Morris University Center may be brought to the event. This event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board and is completely FREE of charge.
