Patchogue Fishing Club P.O. Box 808; Patchogue, NY 11772; www.pfc1938.com September 2005 Newsletter Well, I hope everyone had a nice summer. Our Weigh Master, Carl, has received many weigh slips so I know it was a productive one for many members. Congratulations to Lorry Mangan! On August 26 th, Lorry broke the IGFA World Record with an 8lb. 11oz. fluke using 6lb. test line. She beat the existing record by 1.5lbs. The George Dietz Annual Picnic and the Jim Belmonte Annual Casting Tournament were well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. So many members contribute so much to these two events. No words could convey my appreciation for the generosity extended. Jason and Debbie did an outstanding job. Thanks to all who helped make this a great success. We also had four tournaments since our last newsletter. Port Jefferson Fluke Tournament held June 19 th 1 st Place: Ron Pfister 8lb. 2oz. No other entries. South Shore Tournament (Striped Bass, Fluke, Blues) held July 16 th & 17th 1 st Place: John Caruso 6lb. 13oz Fluke 2 nd Place: Chuck Moffett 3lb. 9oz. Fluke No other entries. Fluke Tournament held August 19 th, 20 th & 21 st 1 st Place: Frank Mazurkiewicz 4lb. 3oz. 2 nd Place: John Caruso 4lb. 2oz. 3 rd Place: Ron Pfister 3lb. 3oz. Snapper Derby held September 11 th Jake Lipponer, Most Variety (Pencil, Fluke & Kingfish) John Werner, Youngest Participant Who Doesn t Own His Own Rod Tori Gehrke, Only Team Member Actually Catching A Snapper And Really Wanting A New Snapper Rod Thanks to J&J Tackle for donating the bait and prizes. With autumn just around the corner, we re looking forward to another great fishing season, which, of course includes a couple of surf tournaments. NEXT REGULAR CLUB MEETING WILL BE HELD ON: September 22, 2005 Where: Blue Point Cottage Time: 8:00 p.m. Coffee and donuts will be served.

Committee Reports Ladies Night Ladies Night will be held Friday, November 4 th at Sunset Harbour. This promises to be another great event, thanks to our expert shoppers Mark & Toni Tutrani. Indoor We have nothing planned for the September meeting, A Chinese Auction is scheduled for the October meeting. Fish of the Month June: Joel Fumuso with a 35lb. striped bass. There was no junior winner. July: Harvey Holmes with a 13lb. 2oz. bluefish & T.J. Kasten with a 7lb. 2oz. bluefish. August: Lorry Mangan with a 58lb. striped bass & Dylan Jewell with a 25lb. striped bass. Jackets Tom has new tee shirts and will continue taking jacket orders Picnic The Annual George Dietz Picnic and Jim Belmonte Casting Tournament at Cathedral Pines was yet another great success. The weather was perfect, we had a great turnout and everyone helped out to make things run smoothly. On behalf of the entire club I would like to thank the following people for helping make this wonderful event possible year after year: Leo DiDonato & Ron Pfister for donating the meats and BBQing, George Dietz for the beer, Steve Gehrke for the ice cream, the Rockwell s for the water balloons, George Remien for donating the corn and organizing the casting tournament, Carl for taking all of the great

pictures, and all of the members who contributed to the wonderful array of tasteful dishes. If you have not had a chance to do so yet please check out our website and look at the great pictures Carl Dippel took at the picnic. They say pictures are worth a thousand words and you can easily see from the pictures Carl took that everyone had a great time. Only approximately $40 of the $250 budget for the annual picnic was spent this year. This, of course, is only possible because of the great people we have in our club. As I mentioned above, many members made wonderful donations to make the picnic a great success, including the purchasing of basket of cheer tickets. Thanks to all! -Jason Remien Casting Thanks to all those club members who pitched in to help set up, break down, and make the casting tournament run so smoothly, especially George Dietz, Jim Belmonte, Dylan Jewell, Vinny Conwell, Jason Remien, and Tom Wasilewicz A very special thanks to Steve Gehrke, and his trusty calculator, who year after year tabulates all of the casting winners. Thanks to J&J Tackle for donating the Blind Cast Contest prize. Finally, congratulations to all of the casting winners. -George Remien Outdoor Important notices: 1. For those of you who miss it, this poem was written by Cliff Bennett and read by him at the June meeting. Fishin' A Way of Life Still have the fascination. Stay awake all night anticipation From that first time experience fishin Now has become a passionate mission. A reason to be outdoors, to relax With no cell phone or fax. Must stay on red alert For that subtle bite and fight. Let the fish be feeding And I do no weeding May the white caps be down Cause I don't want to drown. So set the drag, keep a tight line You'll do just fine Sharpen your hook For something to cook. I pray this old party boat Will stay afloat And the captain imposes a fine On anyone who snags my line. Oh, what a sport, enjoying nature With PFC friends, perhaps with a wager, Swapping stories that change Like the weight of that bass, with age. Fishing requires your absolute attention It's not enough to just have an intention You never know, one of your feats May be to catch one bigger than George Dietz. When the clock says it's time To be back at the dock May our cooler fit it When we catch our limit. But if excuses you need From this list you can read Wrong tide, dirty tide, red tide And the best, wind against tide. And on my last day, God, I don't want a band Please, let me be on the water With a rod in my hand.
