However, a trip to the Hilltop of SMU quickly halted North Texas energy with a frustrating road loss at their rival s hands. The Mean Green s offense, which had been soaring in the previous two games struggled at times to find rhythm and for just the second time this season, North Texas had less than two players score in double figures. The Mean Green s predominate offensive production is coming from guard Terriell Bradley who is the only player averaging double figures per game. However, everyone in Denton knows seniors Kelsey Criner, Candice Adams and Terra Ellison are capable of joining Bradley, as they averaged 10 plus points per game a year ago. And you can t forget about newcomer Tyara Warren who scored a career-high 17 points versus UT Rio Grande Valley and 14 versus Iona. stat leaders overview #3 Erika Wakefield 13.3 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 3.7 APG #2 Tatyana Perez 8.6 PPG, 1.7 RPG,.353 3FG% #00 Kendrian Elliott 8.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG,.53 FG% SHOOTERS Tulsa heads into Saturday s game on a two-game losing streak, most recently a seven-point loss at the hands of the SEC s Arkansas at home. The Hurricane, are a high volume 3-point shooting team that once shot 31 threes in a single game. Their single-game low is 13 3-pointers. On offense they are led by Erika Wakefield who has started all seven games for Tulsa. However, the 5-foot-4 guard has only taken seven 3-pointers all season. Sophomore Tatyana Perez has taken the most 3-point attempts through the first seven games for Tulsa. Perez has taken 34 3-pointers. She has made 35 percent of those attempts. Her 12 made 3-pointers lead the team. Two other Hurricane players have 23 or more 3-point attempts. Liesl Sperl is not one of them but her 6-for-14 percentage (.429) leads the team.

ONE OF THE NATION'S BEST Senior guard Candice Adams is one of the nations best 3-point shooters. As of Friday, Dec. 2, her 48 percent percentage ranks 39th in the country and is second best in Conference USA. Louisiana Tech s Kierra Anthony s 58.8 percent is the only conference player with a higher percentage. Adams has made a 3-pointer in every game this season for the Mean Green and has made at least two 3-pointers in five of the team s six games. PICKING POCKETS North Texas is averaging 19.33 steals per game. As of Friday Dec. 2, that ranks second in Conference USA behind Southern Miss 25.17 steals per game. Senior point guard Kelsey Criner leads the Mean Green with 15 steals through their first six games. Her 15 steals are the fifth most in C-USA. FINDING A FIVE In five of North Texas six games this season they have had a different starting five. The only starting five to start twice is Criner, Bradley, Warren, Ellison and Buckner. ELLISON GRABING BOARDS North Texas senior forward Terra Ellison is second on her team with 38 rebounds through six games. Ellison entered her senior season averaging 2.9 rebounds per game over her first three years of college. She currently is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game. Ellison already has more rebounds this year than she had all of her freshman season (18). She played in 13 games that year. She s on pace to finish the year with 189 rebounds. Ellison set a single-season personal-best last year when she grabbed a total of 118 rebounds. SHOOTERS Tulsa averages 20.5 3-point field goal attempts per game. Against Kansas State on Nov. 14, the Hurricane shot a season-high 31 3-pointers and only 25 two-point field goals. They lost 82-62 to the Wildcats who only attempted 10 3-pointers and made just two of them. In seven games the Hurricane have shot the 3-pointer 143 times and connected on it 50 times. Their 35 percent 3-point field goal percentage is just fifth highest in the American Athletic Conference. #GMG #COMMITTED DON'T BEAT THEMSELVES Tulsa only averages 12.7 turnovers per game, which ranks 20th in the country. LAST TIME VS. TULSA The Mean Green and the Hurricane played each other last in 2014 on 2/22 in Tulsa, Okla. North Texas lost 63-43. Senior Terra Ellison is the other current North Texas player who played in that game. She recorded five minutes of playing time and had two points, two rebounds and two steals. ON THE ROAD AGAIN North Texas travel to Tulsa marks its six game away from home in just seven games. The last time the Mean Green played six of its first seven games on away from home was the beginning of the 2010-11 season. That year, North Texas opened the season at home on Nov. 12, then played nine straight road/neutral site games before returning home on Dec. 8. CAREER DAY FOR BRADLEY Against SMU on Wednesday, sophomore Terriell Bradley set a new single game career-high in points, assists, free throws made and North Texas career-high in rebounds. The Kansas transfer s 22 points versus the Mustangs on Wednesday bested her previous single game high of 21 points, which she had accomplished twice, once at KU and earlier this season versus UT Rio Grande Valley. Bradley also had a career-high three assists in Dallas (previous high two). All three assists came in the second half of the game. At the free throw line Bradley went 8-for-10, which beat her previous high of seven made free throws, which she set as a freshman at Kansas. Her seven consecutive made free throws in that freshman game still is the most consecutive free throws she made. Lastly, Bradley pulled down six rebounds on Wednesday, which is a new career-high since she transferred to Denton. At KU, Bradley had seven rebounds versus Kansas State on Feb. 25, 2015. BLOCK PARTY Wednesday, North Texas recorded a seasonhigh seven blocks versus SMU. Their previous high had been four. Against the Mustangs, six different Mean Green players recorded a block. 2 Freshman Hannah Hopkins was the only player to have more than one block. She had two blocks. IF THEY WIN A win vs. Tulsa would be the Mean Green's first against the Hurricane in seven tries. ST. LUNATICS North Texas freshman Jada Poland and Tulsa freshman Shug Dickson are natives of St. Louis and played AAU basketball together as adolescents and are still close friends. 40 YEARS AGO North Texas game against Arizona marked the Mean Green s 40th anniversary. Jalie Mitchell begins her second season as head coach of the North Texas women s basketball team in 2016-17. Under her leadership, the Mean Green took a major step forward in her inaugural year as head coach and finished with an 11-19 record that more than doubled the team s win total from a season prior. A true mark of the competitive fire that Mitchell instilled all season, North Texas picked up its first win of the year on the road over then No. 17 Oklahoma. It was Mitchell s first head coaching victory and the program s first-ever win over a ranked team. The Mean Green built on that success throughout the year and would go on to win its first Conference USA Tournament game before falling in the second round. Junior Kelsey Criner, a key transfer for Mitchell and her staff, was named to the C-USA All- Defensive Team for her play throughout the season. Since being named the head coach in April of 2015, Mitchell has had four transfers from power-five conferences join North Texas roster. Furthermore, her first high school recruiting class featured four freshmen, one of whom was a Texas high school state champion that was named a 6A Texas high school all-tournament team member. When hired, Mitchell described North Texas as her dream job. The 2002 Mean Green graduate boasts numerous records as a fouryear letter winniner on the North Texas women s basketball team. She finished as the Mean Green s all-time leading scorer with 1,764 points and tops the list of career free throws made and attempted. In 2002, Mitchell was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year when she averaged 19.4 points per game. She earned all-conference honors all four years at North Texas and was a part of the winningest senior class in program history, compiling a 77-39 record -- including a 42-4 mark at the Jalie Mitchell Head Coach Second Year 4 North Texas 02 Super Pit -- and making back-to-back WNIT appearances in 2001 and 2002. Mitchell s No. 44 is one of two women s basketball numbers that has been retired by the Mean Green, and her spectacular playing career culminated in 2007 when she was inducted into the North Texas Hall of Fame. Statistically, North Texas had a noticeable increase in offense and shooting percentage in the first season under Mitchell. The Mean Green owned a 41.7 field goal percentage in the 2015-16 season. It was a 7.23 percent increase from the previous season the largest improvement in the country. It was also the sixth-highest shooting percentage in North Texas history. In total, the Mean Green averaged nearly 10 more points per game in 2015-16 than the year before. Prior to becoming the Mean Green s head coach, Mitchell had two stints as an assistant in Denton. Most recently under then head coach Karen Aston for the 2011-12 campaign. In that campaign, the team went 15-16, which is its best record of the last nine seasons. When Aston left the Mean Green to coach Texas in 2012, Mitchell followed. In her three seasons at Texas, the team combined for a 60-41 overall record. The Longhorns made the NCAA Tournament field the last two seasons, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2015 -- their first since 2008. Mitchell began her collegiate coaching career in 2008 as an assistant coach with the Mean Green under Shanice Stephens. She spent two seasons at North Texas under Stephens before taking on the same position at UNC Wilmington for the 2010-11 season. Mitchell helped the Seahawks finish with a 24-9 record and reach the second round of the WNIT, both program bests. In addition to the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame, Mitchell was inducted into the Duncanville ISD Athletic Hall of Honor. In October of 2015, joining her former high school teammate and WNBA legend Tamika Catchings.
