April 2019 Manager s Memo By: Steve Hlavacek We have a lot of things happening here at the club in the next few weeks, so stay plugged into our web page for all of the upcoming events. 1. Opening Day for the course is coming soon. 2. The Black Tie and Blue Jeans event on April 13th you should not miss!! 3. Our Easter Brunch with the Easter Bunny and Egg Hunt is always one of our annual favorites for the whole family. Will be happy to see everyone back golfing again!! Pro Shop Notes By: Steve Hlavacek Well it won t be long and we can turn in our boats for golf carts and the course will be open. The heavy snow melt has given us a much larger pond on hole number 13. Now that the frost is out of the ground the pond is going down on a daily basis. Our rest room facility had about 10 inches of water but no real damage other than lots of sediment. We will have to paint the floors as soon as the weather gets warmer. Our ship Committee wants you to remember that we have our New ship Program going on right now. If you sign up a new member you can save 25% on your next year s dues and the new member gets 25% of the current year s dues. May 11th is the date of our ship Promotion Day. You can invite your friends and guests who are interested in joining for a day of free golf, carts, prizes, cocktails and snacks. We will be having an 18 hole Scramble starting at noon. Please contact the club to sign up for the event. Of all the new clubs on the market, no other golf club company other than Callaway has met the Golf Digest Gold Standard on both woods and Irons for 2019. The golf shop has demo clubs for you to try when the course opens. The price you pay for Callaway bags, and clubs is the lowest price that is on the internet. We are having a Callaway Demo Day on May 10th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Please call the club to make a reservation to be fit by a Certified Club Fitter.

April 8th at 12:00 noon is the High School Invitational. 60 players will be playing 18 holes. April 16th at 2:00 PM 40 players High School. Ladies Spring Fling is May 15 th. Event Information By: Claire Schuller We re hoping April showers will bring green fairways! The club staff is gearing up for a fun summer! When the course officially opens we will be going back to our regular season dining hours. Watch for more news on what those hours are, and when we officially change over to them. April brings events for all to enjoy, we hope to see you! The BlackTie Blue Jeans event on April 13 th is going to be a blast! We will have wines, beers and bourbons to try! There will be appetizers, music by Ryan Casey, as well as an awesome silent auction with items to bid on! This is going to be an event you do not want to miss! Purchase your tickets through the bar, or on the SCC website! The club s annual Easter brunch buffet is on the 21st. The Easter egg hunt will be at 10:30, and dining hours are from 10:00 till 2:00. We hope you and your family can join us! Please make your reservations by calling the club. Our first wedding of the season is on the 27 th of this month! After a long cold winter, we are looking forward to the start of wedding season! This year is going to be great! Clark s garden behind the 11 th green is starting to sprout the garlic he planted last fall. He plans to plant an array of vegetables to bring fresh ingredients into the kitchen once again. In addition, he will plant herbs in the planter boxes in front of the porch. He has started work on revamping the menus to bring you new dining options. We hope to launch the new menus in the beginning of May. We look forward to bringing you fresh flavorful meals! Planning for the Ladies Spring Fling on May 15 th is already underway, the theme this year is Hats Off to Spring!. A big thank you goes out to the Ladies Golf group for funding the purchase of four high top tables! These tables will be utilized during events to offer guests more cocktail hour mingling. We hope you can join us for the Spring Fling! As always, the SCC wants to give the best experience to all of our members, every time you visit the club. We always like to hear your feedback and ideas. Feel free to reach out to me at the club, or via email at claire@stoughtoncountryclub.com Let s have a great 2019 season! Superintendent s Report By: Mark Livingston What a crazy winter it was. November was very cold, and then December was warm and snowless without a white Christmas. Next came January and February along with record cold, wind, and ice storms. I hope most of you were

able to escape Wisconsin for warmer weather at some point. I attended the Golf Industry Show in San Diego in early February and the weather there wasn t typical either, it rained almost every day. It was still a nice break and filled with great educational and networking opportunities. addition to our golf course. I am hoping for normal year without too much/little rain and seasonal temps. Good weather plays a major role in course conditions and project success. See you on the course. I was pleased to see that the golf course came through the winter in good shape considering the winter we had. There were some flooding issues similar to last year. The pump house on 2 and the restrooms on 13 both had water in them but only for a brief period. It amazed me how fast the water went down once the frost went out of the ground. We did have lots of branches come down during one of the wind storms, most of them were off white pines. This upcoming season we have a couple different projects planned. First, we are going to wrap up the green expansions. We will be sodding and plugging some of the expansion areas where grass didn t thrive with the lower mowing heights. This, along with topdressing the rest of the expansions, will help to blend them into the original green. The other project we will be working on is the construction of a new putting green. The new green will be just north of the existing one. You will see us preparing for construction in early summer by moving irrigation lines and other site work. Excavation will start in late June or early July with the goal of seeding the green early August. I am excited about the project and think it will be a nice
