EAA Chapter 88 December 2016, Presidents Corner Wow where have the last two years gone? It has been an adventure the past 24 months as your chapter president. Our chapter has grown by 250 % in the past 24 months. I would like to thank Ken Rogers (Membership Chairman) and our chapter members for all of your work in recruiting new members. Our chapter looks like it s going to continue to grow as we go into 2017. As we go into my second term as your chapter president I m looking forward to taking the chapter back to the grass roots of EAA. I have discussed with a couple of the board members and support staff about getting our youth programs active again. We have also discussed getting the chapter a project or holding some seminars on building, repairs, covering, etc. We are also looking into strengthening our education programs. I want to invite each of you to share your ideas with one of your board members or myself to help us to continue to grow. We have a big event coming up December 10 @ our chapter headquarters. We will be holding our 2 nd Saturday Breakfast 7-11. This month s we will have a special guest. Santa will be arriving around 9:00 in Eagle Med s WSU helicopter. We will also be holding a Young Eagles Rally, along with Young Builders. Santa has told me that he will not turn any kids away and that he will still around as long as it takes. We do need help with this. Thanks to our sponsors KAKE Channel 10, Midwest Corporate Aviation, Rusty Eck Ford, Eagle Med, and Mid America Powersports. I will be doing a couple of radio interviews, and one on Channel 10. I will send an email when we get the dates. Adults are $6.00 and Kids under 12 are free. We will be holding our Chapter Christmas Party December 17, @ 6:00 PM. We are asking that you RSVP by December 10 so we have an idea on how much meat to purchase. The chapter is furnishing ham, turkey, tea, lemonade, coffee, and pop set ups for mixed drinks. This will be a BYOB and we will also be holding the White Elephant Gift Exchange. We will also be presenting Chapter Service Awards, and Young Eagle Awards will also be presented. We hope to see you there. I would like to thank, Bob Blanton, Sam McNair, Mike McCartney, Don, Blecha, Keith Rhea for their hard work on the repairs to the outside of the building. They are doing a great job repairing the soffit and facia. I would also like to thank Mike Flynn, Tom Reed, Dylan Lindsay, David Girard, Sam McNair, and Joe Reed for their hard work on the helicopter pad. Last but not least Paul & VI Fiebich for all their hard work on various repairs and making sure the building is ready to use. Dan Vickers is now accepting your 2017 membership dues. They are now $36. We have eliminated the early bird special. We fly them. We fix them. We even build them. 2

Chapter 88 Young Builders Day Camp On Oct. 29. Bob Blanton and I took 6 Young Eagles and 5 Eagle flights for a glider ride in a Grob 103 German glider. Saturday was a windy day but we managed to get all 11 people flown. Four of them have never flown in an aircraft before today. Next year around April we will do an all Day event with a building session of a glider and a lunch picnic with a glider flight afterwards. I want to thank Bob Blanton and his glider club in Hutchinson for their help in putting on this event. Ken Rathbun Young Builders Chair We fly them. We fix them. We even build them. 4

All: We will be holding our December board meeting Thursday December 8 @ 7:00 PM. I am asking for agenda items. Please get them to me by Saturday 12-3-16. We need to find a Newsletter Editor ASAP as Decembers newsletter will be Keith's last one. I would like to send Keith a big thank you for taking this on. We are also needing everyone to step up on December 10 as we are doing Breakfast with Santa and will also be holding a Young Eagles Rally. Santa will be arriving around 9:00 AM in Eagle Meds WSU helicopter on the east side of our building. This looks like it's going to turn into a large event. I had a meeting today with a couple of our major sponsors. They have been getting a lot of inquiries and I have been fielding a lot of calls. I will be on Channel 10 next week a couple of times talking about the 10th. I also have done one radio interview and am scheduled to do a couple of more radio interviews next week.
