CAPTAINS REPORT The Club continues to be very busy with golfing events and associated activities as the year progresses. During March the opportunity to achieve gold letters was limited to B and C Grade players in the Cumberland Bowl. Three players Geoff Willard, Adam Storey and Michael Trigona all had nett 68 which has put them into a playoff over 18 holes to be held in conjunction with the April Medal. Good luck Geoff, Adam and Michael. Over the Easter weekend, the Return to Cumberland opportunity was again available to all previous Members of the Club. The invitation was taken up by just under 50 players to come back and catch with some old friends. There were some good catch ups, great memories and exceptional golf played over the weekend and we look forward to continuing to promote Easter as a Cumberland Golfing Weekend in future years. Our Major Pennant teams have completed their representative season with mixed success. The Ladies team of Melissa Cochran, Dianne Morgan, Bronwyn Smith, Maria Golden and Jane Lavercombe advanced to the semi finals after coming second in their Division. They were defeated, but not disgraced, by Stonecutters Ridge and will be looking to go one step further next year.
The Men s team of Daniel Auremi, Isaak Pemble, Josh Russo, Adrian Welsh, Shannon Bridger, Mark Hay, Bill Timberlake and Mark Guinney tried hard but just failed to win some crucial matches and so finished mid Division. At times, there was some brilliant shot making by our players which was matched by their opponents in a very tough competition. Both of our teams were well supported by Team Managers Tracey Hilton (Ladies) and Gary Livesley (Men s) with many members watching the games. Once again the caddies for both teams were the unsung heroes having done all of the hard work Thank you caddies. April sees our inaugural US Masters Breakfast at the Club followed by golf with a shotgun start for those members that would like to try and emulate what they have been witnessing on the Big Screen in the clubhouse. Please contact the Office for bookings at the breakfast. Don t forget our Thursday Open competitions are continuing. Invite your friends from other clubs as all Visitors competition fees continue to be capped at $25 for Thursdays only. If you ever have a suggestion or a question related to golf at Cumberland, please don t hesitate to ask me. If you don t catch me around the Club, you can send me an email at hilton59@tpg.com.au and I will get back to you with an answer. Paul Hilton (Club Captain)
VICE CAPTAIN S REPORT Our course has been undergoing a major renovation. Coring of greens and fairways has been completed and shortly, gypsum will be added to the fairways to improve the soil quality. The renovations have put significant pressure on our staff to maintain the golf course in an acceptable playing condition. In addition, after a prolonged dry spell, good rainfall over the last month has restored growth to many parts of the golf course. There will be occasions where Course staff will have difficulty in keeping up with the required mowing. In particular, I referred to areas of the rough. I asked all golfers to be understanding until all the renovation work has been completed. Drainage work on the 15th hole is nearing completion. The objective is to overcome the area from the pond across to the bunkers on the 17th hole becoming waterlogged after rain. The base material for the path at the 7th tee has settled. After reviewing various options, the material used for the path at the 5th green will be used as a surface material for the path at the 7th hole. A projected date for installation will be established shortly. Stewart Manson Chairman of Course
NEWS FROM THE LADY MEMBERS On Tuesday March 27 we had our annual Easter open, an event which raises money for charity. It was a very successful day with lots of good golf and laughter. We welcomed members from three other clubs and we will be donating $700 to two charities who work with women who are vulnerable in our community. These charities are the Beauty Bank and the Sanctuary, two very worthwhile causes who really appreciate our support. I would like to thank our members for their generosity in donating Easter eggs and golf items for the raffle and the wonderful helpers who came the day before to help wrap our hampers. Congratulations to our Major Metropolitan pennants team who reached the finals for the first time. Well done to Melissa Cochran, Diane Morgan, Jane Lavercombe, Bronwyn Smith and Maria Golden on a great achievement. Thanks also to the caddies for their support. We also remember our members who are ill or have family members who are struggling with health problems. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Brenda Kennedy President of the lady members

HANDY TIPS TO PROTECT THE COURSE During the cooler months the best option to repair divots is to chop the sides in and fill with sand. Players should make every effort to repair lob marks on the green. Also one that may seem a little odd, but we are finding more and more bottle tops around the course which are not good for fairway mowers. Please put them in a bin. Mark (Course Superintendent) QUOTE OF THE MONTH : Keep your sense of humour. There s enough stress in the rest of your life not to let bad shots ruin a game you re supposed to enjoy. -Amy Alcott Happy Golfing Denis Clifford (Vice President)
