LAST TIME OUT Utah registered its third straight road win with a 77-70 victory over the USC Trojans Thursday night at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. Utah led by as many as 20 points in the first half and despite a late run from the home team, the Utes came away with the victory to snap a two-game skid to the Trojans. Both Gach got his first start in Pac-12 play and came away with a team-leading 15 points, while Jayce Johnson registered his third double-double of the season with 13 points and a season-high-tying 13 boards. Utah shot nearly 46 percent from the field, while limiting USC to a total of 38 percent from the floor. BAREFIELD EYING SCHOOL RECORD MARKS Senior Sedrick Barefield surpassed Phil Cullen (1998-2002) and Josh Grant (1988-93) total of 153 three-pointers made on the school's all-time career three's made list. Barefield knocked down three, three-pointers against USC and is now currently in eighth place with 157 made career three-pointers. He is 28 three-pointers away from tying No. 7 on the list, Phil Dixon, who tallied 184 three's from 1989-94. Barefield is among the top-10 players in school history, currently ranking No. 8 overall with 413 career three-point attempts. He is 14 downtown shots away from surpassing Dixon's total of 427 three-point attempts, which ranks No. 7 all-time in school history. Barefield has also tallied 955 total points in his career. He is now just 45 points shy from becoming the school's 39th player alltime to register at least 1,000 points in a career. The Corona, Calif., native averages 16.3 points per game and is projected to score his 1,000th career point sometime prior to the regular-season ending. TALKING BOARDS Junior Jayce Johnson led the team with 10 rebounds this past Saturday against Oregon State. It marked the second straight double-digit rebounding effort and his third in the past four games. Johnson heads into the week leading the team and ranking ninth in the Pac-12 with 6.7 rebounds per game. His 8.4 rebounds per game in Pac-12 only game currently ranks fifth among players in the league. Freshman Timmy Allen averaged just 3.6 rebounds per game through is first 12 games as a Ute, but since Utah began league play, Allen is pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game. He is now averaging 5.0 rebounds per game overall, a difference of +1.4 rebounds per game since non-conference competition ended. Prior to this past weekend, Allen had pulled down double-digit rebound totals in four of the past five games. OFF THE BENCH The Utah bench has outscored the opponents bench players in 15 of 21 games this season. The Utes have tallied a total of 571 points (27.2/game) off the bench, while opposing teams have scored 389 (18.5/game) total points from non-starters. Utah is led off the bench by sophomore Donnie Tillman, who is currently averaging 10.9 points per game this season. In nine starts, Tillman averaged 10.4 points per game, scoring 10 points or more in five of those nine games. UTAH IN PAC-12 PLAY The Utes head into the week with an all-time mark of 71-65 since becoming a member in 2011-12. The Utes have gone 11-7 in Pac-12 play the previous two seasons and have finished among the league's top four teams the last four years. UTES PICKED TO FINISH EIGHTH IN PAC-12 PRESEASON MEDIA POLL Utah was picked to finish eighth in the preseason media poll that was released in mid-october. The Utes finished in a tie for third-place in the league standings after being picked to finish seventh in last season s media poll. UTES TIE SCHOOL MARK FOR 3 S IN A GAME Utah drained 17 three-pointers in its win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 15, to tie the school record, which was previously set back on Jan. 12, 2002, against UNLV. The Utes have now drained at least 14 three-pointers in a game five different times over the past three seasons. Along with the record-tying performance against MVSU, Utah also notched 16 three-pointers against Arizona State earlier this season. VAN DYKE HAS CAREER NIGHT AGAINST FAMU Senior Parker Van Dyke set new career-highs in points (20), field goals made (7) and threepointers made (6) in Utah's win against Florida A&M on Dec. 17, 2018. Van Dyke scored 20 points for the first time in his career and surpassed his previous career-high of 18 points, which he tallied against UCLA back on Feb. 22 last season. He had originally drained six field goals in a game five different times in his career, with the last time coming against Mississippi Valley State earlier this season. His previous high for three-pointers made was four, which came on three different occasions and most notably also coming against MVSU. UTAH AT HOME IN DECEMBER Utah went 3-1 at home throughout the month of December this non-conference season. Since joining the Pac-12, Utah is now 26-5 overall at home through the month of December, which includes having won 22 straight overall and 24 of the past 27 games. KRYSTKOWIAK NOTCHES CAREER-WIN NO. 150 AT UTAH Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak notched his 150th win as head coach of the Runnin' Utes with a 77-70 victory over USC on Feb. 6.
