Potential candidates will be notified. d. Sharp Hospice Regatta: Presentation from representative from Sharp Hospice to encourage PHRF to not remove Sharp Hospice Regatta from the Championship
series in 2011. Discussion: Regatta would have to be changed to a fleet start to be eligible for High point series, high point races are used to rate boats, fees should be in line with other PHRF races to create an even playing field for PHRF participants interested in Championship series. Would the regatta stand on its own with out being on the highpoint calendar? Consensus is yes. The Board presented the following to CRA representing the Regatta via e-mail: That the Sharp Hospice Regatta format conforms to US Sailing RRS 26. PHRF class starts. Weather Mark as the first mark of the course. Bifurcated Entry fee: Race and Charity donation. Board Comments: We believe this is a successful regatta with or without being on the PHRF high point calendar. We believe that the regatta is growing. We believe it is more exciting for the observers to see fleet start and that the explanations provided by the observer boats would increase awareness of sailing and the excitement of the start. We believe that the present format leads to a Parade of San Diego, rather than a competitive race between participants. We believe that a pursuit start will generate more entries than a fleet start. We believe that splitting entry fees will increase participation. CRA to respond via E-mail. 6) New Business: a. Re-setting the database for 2011 renewals. Rating Reviews: Bowsprit and Tack Line i. SOCAL Wording: TACK LINE/SPL RULE CLARIFICATION to Appendix A5.5.5c Page 2 of 5
Owners may tack an asymmetrical spinnaker 6 in front of their rated SPL on boats that use a spinnaker pole to fly an asymmetrical spinnaker so that they are able to jibe it in front of their bow pulpit. Besides fastening a block for a tack line to the existing structure, the boat may not be modified to achieve this objective without invalidating their rating certificate. Boats with bow sprits whose tack points are already in front of their bow pulpits may not move their tack lines beyond their current tack point (SPL) without invalidating their rating certificate. Boats whose poles that exceed the J dimension may not add structure or a bow sprit to achieve this objective without invalidating their rating certificate. ii. Quick Meteor: Current Rating: 132/129/126 Owner notified the board that the tack point of the A-sail on the sprit was being moved to coincide with the rated SPL of 11.3 Handicapper Recommendation: 0/0/0 adjustment to the base rating 132/132/132.
