Some Thoughts and Thanks Each year on the day of our Christmas party we have a mini work party to clean the range and the club house. Ray Walton led and worked with a good crew who power washed the entire range. This is the 2 nd year we used power washing and it does a great job and surprisingly dries up fast. It was Ray s idea! It smelled clean! Super job! The crew and others that worked deserve your thanks and appreciation. When you see them at the club please express your appreciation. The crew was Ray mentioned above, Jack Ramsay, Frank Bungard, Don Redinger, Ray English, Jodi Frankel-Lange, Brad Schmitt, Al Jaworski: Sr., Mike Haritan, Chuck Bouvy, Larry Burke, Jim Pukansky, Ell Vines, Mark Sanders and Finn Sanders. Bill Fertall picked up 50 chairs from a local rental store. Then for setting up the food buffet and other preparation we have another mini work party just before the party. Everything was so fast / furious but smooth because of the great support! However, I just did not have get the opt to collect names but Jodi, mentioned above not only baked cookies after the morning work but showed up for this activity. Dale More and Jim Madar picked up food. Don Hindman and myriad of others just pitched in and did all the work on set up. Bill Fertall and Bruce Long came in early Friday AM to help put finishing touches on the cleanup. Bill had already returned the rental chairs earlier in the day. That is what I really like about our club and membership. When you ask and need help the members show up and work hard. It makes having club events fun. Thank you, thank you!! Ted Hildabrand, VP 4

America s Rifle Challenge AMERICA S RIFLE CHALLENGE (ARC) Program Information for 2019 America s Rifle Challenge (ARC) program here at DMLSC enters its fourth year and is gaining more steam. Just What is America s Rifle Challenge? you may ask. With the growing interest in the AR platform, the NRA established a unique training and competition event that goes far beyond typical target practice. Participants can practice defensive skills ranging from 100 yards down to 7 yards, shooting at multiple targets, using all 4 shooting positions, barricades, and use of support side firing. The following information describes upcoming events that incorporate marksmanship, challenge, training, and a whole lot of fun. While the program is designed with the AR platform in mind, any magazine fed semi-automatic rifle will suffice. **Youth Participation** - Youth (14 18) can be a part of the action as well. Participation in DMLSC s small bore program or a high school rifle team will provide a wealth of safe gun handling and marksmanship experience. However, all youth must start with the AR Clinic. ARC Cadre will then determine further progress to other levels. ARC Plus matches are restricted to ages (18+) AR CLINIC - NRA Certified Instructors and RSO s will provide instruction on safe gun handling, introduction to action rifle skills, dry fire practice, and several stages of live fire. If you are new to match compete tion or AR ownership, and are looking for opportunities to develop familiarity with the AR platform, then the AR CLINIC is tailor made for you. BASIC MATCH this event is an introduction to action rifle shooting. Participants learn match protocols, practice marksmanship skills, and develop confidence all while maintaining a comfortable pace. All live fire is conducted concurrently. If you want to get started in this style of competition or just try it, then the BASIC MATCH will provide the opportune springboard. ADVANCED MATCH - this event allows shooters to hone individual marksmanship skills with the AR platform. All live fire is conducted individually using a shot timer. Combining marksmanship with speed pro vides the basis of scoring for the event. Stages involve a variety of movement, firing positions, target locations, barricade usage, and magazine reloading. Prerequisite: prior participation in a DMSC Basic Match, other action rifle course, or job experience (as determined by the match director). ARC PLUS (2-gun) this event provides a more robust level of competition and enjoyment. With stages similar to those in the Advanced Match, participants combine the use of both rifle and pistol. A mixture of stag es entailing rifle only, pistol only, and transition of one firearm to the other, create a very interesting, challenging, and exhilarating match. Pistols must be a semi-automatic, caliber 9mm or larger, and maintained in an external holster. The rifle, pistol and necessary magazines are all carried throughout each live fire stage. Prerequisite: participation in a DMSC sponsored Advanced Match. ARC Plus (Vintage 2-Gun) runs the same as a 2-gun match - the only difference is the rifle must be pre-1945. Prerequisite: participation in a CMP match. ARC Plus (Pistoleer) All of the fun and challenge of the Advanced Match but pistol only and conducted down on the lower ranges. ** More detailed information will be available for each type of match in future editions of the DMSC Newsletter. ** 5

America s Rifle Challenge ARC Rifle Clinic Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen s Club is sponsoring an AR Rifle Clinic in conjunction with the America s Rifle Challenge (ARC) Program. This clinic is designed for shooters of all ages (14+) and will be geared toward those with little or no experience using the AR Rifle Platform. NRA Certified Instructors and RSO s will provide instruction on safe gun handling, introduction to action rifle skills, dry fire practice, and several stages of live fire. This clinic will progress at a slow enough pace for participants to gain an introduction to action rifle match protocol and develop a comfortable level of operation with the AR Rifle. The round count to be fired only provides each participant a minimal opportunity to incorporate the instruction and dry fire practice with a live fire opportunity. To gain further confidence from this activity, participants are highly encouraged to sign up for an ARC Basic Match.
