Regent Christina Cousino, Sec./ Treasurer Janice Leeds, Recorder APPOINTED OFFICERS Wendy Sherman, Guide Claudia Lay, Asst. Guide OHIO STATE HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT COMES TO SYLVANIA! The Ohio State Moose Association Horseshoe Tournament will be held here on August 25, 26, and 27. Moose members from all over the state will be joining us for the weekend. The Mixed Doubles Tournament starts on Friday at 6 p.m. Men s and Women s Singles will be all day Saturday, and the Men s and Women s Doubles is on Sunday. If you re interested in competing, the registration forms are on the Sports Board next to the pool table. There are different skill levels so don t worry that the competition may be too tough! WE NEED SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS TO HELP THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. There are many ways you can help: cooking and/or serving meals, selling 50/50 s, collecting money for food sales, trash detail, shuttling players back and forth to their hotel, and any other thing that we haven t thought about yet! We also need members or your high school or college-age child/ grandchild to be scorekeepers. A little bit of a knowledge of horseshoe scoring helps but it isn t necessary. We ll train you on how the scoring is done at the state level (because it s different than a typical game). Scorekeepers receive tips from the players so it s a fun way to earn a little extra cash! Sign up sheets will be posted in the lodge starting in August or you can contact Marsha Warrington. This is the same tournament that we hosted two years ago. Everyone from the other lodges said how wonderful our lodge was and how much fun they had. We are expecting more players this year, so let s continue to show our visitors how great Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579 is! Moose Members, their guests, and visiting horseshoe players are welcome to attend the tournament and these extra events: Friday Ribs Dinner, DJ music Saturday Breakfast, Burgers and Dogs for Lunch, Steak Dinner, DJ music Sunday Breakfast, Burgers and Dogs for Lunch MOOSE RIDERS Trent Cousino, President Mike S. Smith, Vice President Robin Bryant, Sec./Treasurer Rick Young, Sergeant at Arms Rick Bryant, Road Captain MOOSE LEGION ENROLLMENT The Sylvania Moose Lodge 1579 will be hosting a Legion Mini-Enrollment Conferral for Maumee Valley 30 on Sunday, July 9 at 2 p.m. Dress is casual and ladies are welcome to attend. A meal will be served following the Conferral. The Legion Officers/Asst. Secretaries meeting is tentatively scheduled at 1 p.m. Sponsors, please do your best to get your prospective member to this enrollment. It is required by the General Laws of the Order that in order to receive any higher degree one must attend a conferral. If you missed your conferral, you are urged to attend. Michael P. Smith, Sylvania Legion President Jim Witker, Maumee Valley 30 Secretary

From the Governor Summer is finally here. As we enjoy this great weather fishing, golfing, or camping, remember that your lodge has a lot to offer. Please come out and support your Moose Lodge this summer! In July and August we ll be having Steak Fry s, Grilled Chicken Dinners, a Luau & Pig Roast, a Family Picnic, just to name a few! Also, at the end of August we will be hosting the State Horseshoe Tournament, which is always a big event. Congratulations to Jim Steele and Dave Miller for being selected as July and August Moose of the Month. In closing, have a fun and safe summer. Fraternally, Cameron Hall From the senior regent I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all the WOTM and LOOM members that have aided me with the start of my year as Senior Regent. Next, the Chairwomen of the 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Party, Kay Brennan and Kim Hetherington, knocked it out of the park this year! Dede Ruckman, your craft skills are awesome (and the women had a blast!) so please keep those craft nights coming! Great job ladies! Also, thanks to the LOOM members for serving such a delicious Mother s Day Breakfast. Lastly, a huge THANK YOU to all that donated, volunteered, and supported the benefit for John Carr and his family.
