2015-16 ROSTER Purdue Roster Notes Purdue boasts five seniors on its roster, the most for the program since the 2005-06 team had six seniors -- Matt Painter s first year. Purdue will have 10 players from its homestate of Indiana this year. It marks the seventh straight year that the roster has featured at least nine Indiana natives and the ninth straight year that over half the roster hails from Indiana. Freshman Caleb Swanigan was ranked No. 37 on the list, while senior center A.J. Hammons was named 23rd. Swanigan was seventh among Big Ten players, while Hammons was third behind Maryland s Melo Trimble (No. 8) and Michigan s Caris LeVert (No. 16). Purdue is one of just 11 teams to have at least two players mentioned. The other teams are Villanova, Maryland, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Wichita State, LSU, Gonzaga and California. Doing so would make him and A.J. Hammons the first Purdue teammates since 2011 with 1,000 career points. Boilers Hot at Home Purdue will enter the 2015-16 season having won six straight games at Mackey Arena, which includes three games against ranked opponents. Purdue won the six straight games by a combined 46 points (7.7 PPG). With nine non-conference home games on the slate, an undefeated nonconference schedule will give Purdue 15 straight home wins, which would tie for the sixth-longest home winning streak in Mackey Arena history. Purdue has dominated the opposition at home during the month of November, going 33-1 (.971) under head coach Matt Painter. The lone loss was on Nov. 9, 2012, to Bucknell (70-65). The average margin of victory in those games is 24.0 points (815 points). Going back further, Purdue is 68-7 (.907) all-time at Mackey Arena during the month of November.

Stunning Turnaround Purdue went 5-13 two years ago in Big Ten play, finishing 12th out of 12 teams in the league standings. Purdue made its seventh tournament apperance under head coach Matt Painter and the first since 2012. Only Gene Keady (17 appearances in 25 years) has led Purdue to more NCAA Tournaments than Painter. Since Matt Painter s second year at Purdue (2006-07), Purdue is one of 14 programs in the country with wins in six NCAA Tournaments and to have won a regular-season and conference tournament championship during that time (Purdue, North Carolina, Butler, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Pittsburgh, Gonzaga, UCLA, Michigan State, Ohio State, Louisville and Xavier). The final starting lineup of freshmen Vince Edwards and Dakota Mathias, juniors Rapheal Davis and A.J. Hammons and senior Jon Octeus were 9-2 as a starting group. The losses came to No. 6-ranked Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals and to Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament. It marked the first time in the Matt Painter era that Purdue finished in the nation s top 100 in both categories in the same year. Purdue s field goal percentage defense of 40.1 percent (overall) was the program s best since the 2010 season (.399) and the third lowest since the shot clock was introduced before the 1985-86 season (.391-2009;.399-2010). In Big Ten play only, Purdue led the league in field goal percentage defense (.393) and three-point percentage defense (.322). Purdue s field goal percentage of 44.9 percent was the program s best since the 2006-07 season (.460) and the third-highest percentage since 1997-98. Purdue s 177 blocked shots were the most in school history. The 5.21 blocked shots per game was the second-highest average in school history. The Boilermakers plus-4.8 rebound margin was the fourth-best margin in school history. Purdue s 36.7 rebounds per game were the fourth-highest average in a season since the shot clock was introduced in 1985-86. Purdue held 11 opponents last year to 59 or fewer points, posting an 11-0 record when that happens. During the Matt Painter era, the Boilermakers are 104-4 when holding opponents to 59 or fewer points. Purdue went 18-0 last year when attempting more free throws than its opponent. When having the same amount as or fewer free throw attempts than its opponent, Purdue was just 3-13 (wins over Illinois, Iowa and IPFW). Purdue went 19-6 last year when shooting a higher field goal percentage than its opponent, but was just 2-7 when foes shot better. During the Matt Painter era, Purdue is 175-29 when shooting a higher field goal percentage. With 212 wins to his credit in just his 10th year, Painter has averaged 21.2 wins per season, the highest average wins per season in school history. Legendary head coach Gene Keady, who won 512 games from 1981-2005, averaged 20.5 wins per season. Rapheal Davis was named Purdue s eighth Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Purdue has won more Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors than any league team (Ohio State - 5). Over the last 13 years, Purdue has won six Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors.
