Money Town Kids Hannah s Sacrifice

Ican t wait to see Annie s Great Animal Adventure at the movies tonight! said Sarah. It s a brand new movie about a zookeeper named Annie who accidentally lets the animals out of their cages while she is sleep walking! Later, she goes on a fun adventure to locate each animal and bring them all back safely to the zoo. Will laughed. That sounds awesome. I want to go! And I m going to buy popcorn, candy, AND a Big Glug! I love chocolate caramel chews the best, said Raul. They re my favorite!

Well, I ve been waiting for over a month to try cotton candy ice cream, said Hannah. It s a brand new treat they have at the movie theater, and my mom said I could FINALLY get some tonight! The plan was for all the Money Town kids to meet at 5:30pm at the movie theater and watch the show together. They laughed and talked together as they anticipated the fun that would take place later that night. That s when Hannah noticed that Juni was very quiet and she looked like she was sad. Aren t you coming tonight, Juni? Hannah asked. Juni didn t answer right away but looked down at her shoes instead. Well, I guess I could go. If Juni paused for a few seconds. If I can find the money to pay for the movie ticket. What s the matter, Juni? Hannah asked. Can t you just ask your parents for the money? Juni looked down again and didn t say a word. Well? Hannah insisted. Juni started to cry. My dad lost his job last month, and

we haven t had a lot of money for extra things like going out to restaurants, shopping, or going to the movies. All of the kids felt bad for Juni. Tickets to the movies were $8.00 each. Popcorn, candy, and other treats cost even more money. It was a lot of money to spend especially if you didn t have it. Hannah and Sarah walked over and gave Juni a big hug. Don t feel bad Juni, said Raul. Maybe you can go with us next time. Will agreed. We can tell you about it tomorrow anyway, he said. Everybody said goodbye and agreed to meet in front of the theater later that evening. When Hannah got home, she went inside to talk to her mom. Hannah felt bad for Juni and wished her family could afford to let her go to the movies. Hannah s mom listened as Hannah

shared her feelings. Hannah s mom asked how much money she was going to take to the movies. I have $8.00 for the movie ticket and another $8.00 for cotton candy ice cream and other treats at the concession stand. Oh yeah, I forgot you ve been dying to try the cotton candy ice cream, Hannah s mom said. You ve been waiting for this chance for a long time now, haven t you? Yeah, I guess. But, somehow now I don t feel so excited about it. What do you mean? her mother asked. Well, if Juni can t even go to the movies at all, then I don t feel like going to the movies either and I sure don t feel like eating ice cream. It doesn t feel right to me. Hannah s mom looked directly into her eyes and said, Maybe God is trying to tell you something, Hannah.

What do you mean, Mom? Well, maybe God wants you to make a special sacrifice so that Juni can go to the movies, too. Just then Hannah s face lit up. Her eyes were dancing and she had a huge smile on her face. Mom, you re a genius! You re absolutely right! God DOES want me to sacrifice for Juni! Thanks, Mom! Hannah ran out of her room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. She picked up the phone and called Juni s house. Hi, Juni, this is Hannah. I want you to meet me at the movies tonight. There was a long pause on the phone. Juni waited and finally said, Hannah, you know I can t come tonight. I don t have the money. I know, Juni. I ve been thinking about it all day. You ll just have to trust me. Please promise me you ll show up Okay? Juni wasn t sure what to say, but Hannah was very excited about it. Juni sat quietly for a few moments on the other end of the phone.

Well? Okay, Hannah. I promise, I ll be there. Great! see you later, Juni. The girls hung up the telephone. Later that night each person arrived at the front of the theater entrance. Come on, Hannah, let s go inside, Katie said. I ll be inside in a minute. I ve got something I have to do out here. Everyone went inside the movies except Hannah. Just then, Juni walked up. Hi, Juni, said Hannah. I m so glad you came tonight. Me too, I guess. But... I don t know how I m going to get in the movies, she said. I do! exclaimed Hannah. Juni, I want to buy your ticket tonight. God told me today to sacrifice something I want very much cotton candy ice cream to get something even better. What s that? asked Juni. You! Me?

Yes, you re one of my very best friends and I m so thankful for our friendship. I d rather have you here at the movies with me than to eat 100 bowls of the best ice cream in the world! Juni smiled. Are you sure? Absolutely! Thanks so much, Hannah. You don t know how much this means to me and how good I feel right now. You re a true friend. You re welcome, said Hannah. And you can t imagine how good I feel right now too, said Hannah, even without any ice cream! Two tickets please, said Hannah to the ticket booth operator. Both girls laughed and walked inside together. 2011, Crown Financial Ministries, Inc. All rights reserved. Crown.org.
