With 19 seconds remaining, Toledo s Julie Hillis nailed a jumper from just inside the three-point arc to give the home team a 49-48 advantage. After a Detroit timeout with 14.8 seconds left in regulation, UDM s Lindsey Pasquinzo drove the baseline, but was cut off by UT s Mary Blessing and Karin Hoogendam. Falling out of bounds, Pasquinzo alertly threw the ball off Blessing s foot to give the visitors one more shot with 2.3 seconds left. On the ensuing play, Pasquinzo intended to hit Lori Wild cutting to the basket, but the ball went through her hands and found its way to Krzyzek, who promptly drained the 15-footer as time expired. Danielle Bishop led the Rockets with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Kelly Walker was the only other Rocket in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Toledo shot 34.1 percent (15-of-44) from the field, including 35.0 percent (7- of-20) from three-point field goal range. The Rockets dished out only 10 assists, while committing 27 turnovers. Pasquinzo scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Titans. Wild added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. UDM shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from Toledo s Last Time Out - Nov. 29, 2007 TOLEDO 48 Youngtown State 55 YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Toledo (2-3) could not overcome a slow start and suffered a 55-48 setback at Youngstown State in the Beeghly Center. The Rockets managed only two field goals in the opening 10 minutes of the contest and fell behind early, 15-5. The visitors just could not get things rolling at either end of the court in the first half, while YSU found its stroke to build a comfortable cushion. The Penguins Heather Karner buried a pair of triples to extend the lead to 32-17 at the intermission. Allie Clifton, who finished with a team-high 15 points, started to heat up to begin the second half and converted a pair of three-point plays to trim the deficit to 38-32 with 13:41 left. With Clifton sparking the rally, the rest of the team soon followed suite, as UT hit eight of its first 14 shots to make it a close contest. The Rockets continued to fight hard and Tamesha Scotton split a pair of free throws to make it a two-point game, 43-41, with 7:07 left. UT pulled within a basket on two more occasions in the waning moments but could get no closer. The Midnight Blue and Gold had its chances to tie or take the lead, but they missed six consecutive free throws and tallied only five points in the final five minutes. The difference in the contest down the stretch proved to be the Penguins ability to get to the foul line and convert. The home team went 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) from the charity stripe in the second half, while the Rockets shot only 6-of-16 (37.5 percent). Toledo Women s Basketball Game Notes - page 12 Mark Ehlen is in his 13th season as the Toledo head coach with a reputation as one of the winningest coaches in Mid- American Conference basketball history. More importantly, Ehlen s teams have struck a perfect balance between athletic performance and academic integrity. Ehlen owns a 228-136 (.626) record at Toledo and sports an even better 135-63 (.682) conference regular-season mark. He is second in league history in conference victories only and sixth in overall winning percentage. He is also the eighth-winningest coach, percentage-wise, in MAC history in league games. A record four-time MAC Coach of the Year honoree (1997, 99, 01, 03), Ehlen has taken the Rockets to four NCAA Tournaments (1996, 97, 99, 01) and two WNIT appearances (1998, 03). His players have received three MAC Player of the Year awards (Angela Drake - 1997 and Kim Knuth - 1998 & 99), as well as nine firstteam All-MAC selections. In 2006-07, Danielle Bishop garnered all-league honors for the third-straight year, being named honorable-mention the last two seasons after earning third-team honors as a sophomore. Ehlen, who has a 350-266 record in his 22-year coaching career, was named the Toledo head coach on August 21, 1995, becoming the eighth coach in the program s history. A 1975 graduate of The Ohio State University, Ehlen received a bachelor s degree in communications education. He also received a master s degree in broadcast communications from Bowling Green in 1979. Ehlen and his wife, Mimi, reside in Sylvania, OH. The couple has a 10-year Head Coach Mark Ehlen old daughter, Eliza. National Success Under Ehlen, Toledo has made six postseason tournament appearances in 12 years (four times in the NCAA Tournament), and overall during that span Toledo has averaged 18.8 wins per season. The Rockets best performance in the Big Dance came in 1996 with a secondround appearance. The Midnight Blue and Gold won an NCAA Tourney game with a 65-53 victory over 24th-ranked Mississippi, before falling to sixth-ranked Old Dominion, 72-66, in second-round action. Academic Excellence The Rockets have been successful in the classroom as well as on the basketball court. In Ehlen s tenure, Rocket players have been selected first team Academic All- MAC nine times and Academic All-District IV first-team seven times, including one CoSIDA Academic All-America pick. Under his tutelage at UT, the Rockets have posted team GPAs above 3.0 in 21 of the last 26 semesters. The Rockets success in the classroom has been recognized by the Women s Basketball Coaches Association s Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll four times during his tenure. In 2001-02, the Rockets posted a 3.465 overall team GPA to finish second nationally among more than 300 Division I programs. In 1999-2000, the Rockets finished third after registering a 3.41 GPA. In 1998-99, the Rockets (3.34) finished tied for eighth-place. In 1996-97, the Rockets had the fifth-best GPA (3.39) in the nation.
