Jays vs. Royals Tonight is the first of six between these clubs in 2017...KC was 2-4 vs. the Jays last year, gong 2-1 here, but getting swept in three at Rogers Centre...the Royals trail the all-time series with Toronto by a 187-198 mark, but possess a 101-90 advantage in Kauffman Stadium...Kansas City has won seven of the last 10 regular season meetings in The K. Date Site Score WP LP Att. 6/23 KC 6/24 KC 6/25 KC 9/19 @ Tor 9/20 @ Tor 9/21 @ Tor A GRAND FINISH TO BOSOX SERIES--Salvador Perez flipped a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 triumph on Wednesday, clobbering the first grand slam of his big league career to cap 9-pitch at bat against Robby Scott...the win gave KC the rubber game and pulled the Royals to within a game of.500, as the Royals have now won four consecutive series and five of their last six, going 13-6 in that span...the eighth inning rally began rather innocuously as Matt Barnes walked both Jorge Bonifacio and Lorenzo to open the frame...on came the left-hander Scott, who then walked Eric Hosmer on four pitches to set the stage for Perez s heroics as he delivered his 15th home run of the year...ian Kennedy had been staked to a 2-0 lead entering the fourth, but he surrendered back-to-back home runs that tied the game in the fourth, then a pair of unearned tallies scored on his watch in the fifth to stake Boston to the lead...the KC bullpen was exemplary, with Mike Minor providing 2.1 scoreless, followed by Joakim Soria with an inning for the win and Kelvin Herrera working the ninth for his 17th save and ninth consecutive conversion. ROSTER MOVE--The Royals today signed free agent reliever Neftalí Feliz and designated right-handed pitcher Chris Young for assignment...feliz, who will wear #43, was released earlier this week by the Milwaukee Brewers...the 29-year old was 1-5 with eight saves and a 6.00 ERA in 29 appearances for the Brewers...he was the team s closer during the first part of the year, recording saves in eight of his first nine opportunities through May 4, featuring his 100th career save on April 5 vs. Colorado...he was the 2010 A.L. Rookie of the Year with Texas and has a 20-19 career record with 107 saves and a 3.43 ERA in 337 games at the Major League level. DUFFY TO REHAB--Southpaw starter Danny Duffy, out since May 29 with a right oblique strain, will begin an injury rehab assignment tomorrow with the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA) when they host Memphis...the 28-year old compiled a 4-4 record with a 3.54 ERA in 11 starts before injuring himself on a defensive play in Cleveland on May 28. BIG SLICK FRIDAY--Tonight is the annual Big Slick Softball extravaganza here in Kauffman Stadium as Kansas City natives Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, Jason Sudeikis and Eric Stonestreet, as well as Midwesterner David Koechner and other celebrity guests do battle...other celebrities who will participate include George Wendt from Cheers fame and also the uncle of Jason Sudeikis, actors James van der Beek, Johnny Knoxville, Kevin Pollak, Martin Starr and Randy Flagler (Chicago Fire), as well as American Idol winner and hometown favorite David Cook. SOLID WORK IN JUNE--With Wednesday s comeback win over the Red Sox, the Royals upped their record to 13-6 in June, the best mark to this point among all American League clubs and fourth best in the Majors...the month began with KC taking two of three from the Indians here, then splitting a 4-game set against Houston, before going on the road to win series in San Diego (2-1), San Francisco (2-0) and Anaheim (3-1) before returning home to take two of three from the Red Sox to open this stay...since the month began, the Royals are third in the A.L. in ERA (3.94) and tied for fifth in runs (104)...KC started June eight games under.500 (22-30). ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing right-hander compiled a 38-31 during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch.
