PALO PINTO COUNTY 4-H Cloverleaf Spring 2015 April 10th Deadline State Steer & Heifer Tag Orders If you plan to show a steer or heifer at a major livestock show during the 2015-2016 show year, you will need to place your order for state tags by April 10th. Each tag should cost $10.00 and needs to be prepaid. Please use the attached order form to place your order. Steer & Heifer Validation will take place in June. State Fair of Texas Tag Orders Tags will need to be ordered by April 10th for goats, sheep or swine showing at the State Fair of Texas in the Fall of 2015. Tags will be $10.00. All orders should be prepaid. Texas 4-H Horse Validation Deadline Approaching The 2015 Texas 4-H Horse Validation process started on March 1st and will continue through April 15th at a cost of $10.00 per horse. From April 16th to May 1st the cost increases $20.00 per horse. Validation is required for all horses that may be entered into either district or state horse shows. For those horses validated last year in 4-H CONNECT, you will need to re-activate and pay for validation. For new horses, you will need to provide photos of each side, and front, as well as a pdf copy of registration papers (if registered). April 24th Contest Entry Deadlines The District 3 4-H Roundup will be held May 12th at the Wilbarger Auditorium in Vernon, Texas. Events for the day will include the following contests: Educational Presentations Share-the-Fun (There are seven(7) categories Poetry/Prose, Vocal, Dramedy, Musical/Instrumental, Solo/Band Performance, Choreographed Routines, and Celebrate 4 -H. Public Speaking Science, Engineering, & Technology poster contest Information about each of these contests is available by contacting the Extension office. Criteria Based Awards The Criteria Based Awards were developed as an additional way to recognize our members. Members must apply for these awards which are based on the member s age, their level of participation and leadership experiences. Applications for these awards are due by June 26th. The awards will be presented at the awards banquet that is usually held in October. The Criteria Based Awards include: Rookie Award - Any Age First Year 4-H Member Honor Roll Award - 8 and in the 3rd Grade Up to Age 10 (Based on current 4-H age which was the member s age on 8/31/14) All Star Award - Ages 11 to 13 (Based on current 4-H age which was the member s age on 8/31/14) Letterman Award - Age 14 and Over (Based on current 4-H age which was the member s age on 8/31/14) Award Information Gold Star Award The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and will be awarded only once in a member s 4-H career. Counties have award quotas based on the number of senior 4-H members. The award is presented to the most deserving young people without regard to sex. The following are three of the requirements that must be met in order to apply: The member must be at least 15 at the time of application and must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year. The 4-H member must submit an awards program record book in the year he or she is to be considered for the award. The 4-H member must participate in an interview. Volunteers Needed for the PPCLA Rodeo in Mineral Wells The rodeo will be held May 7-9, 2015. 4-H has been asked to cover ticket sales at the rodeo on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. We will need at least six adult volunteers each night as well as some youth to assist. We will be asking clubs to help in providing volunteers. Please contact your club manager or the Extension office to volunteer. We would appreciate your help! 2015 4-H Virtual Volunteer Conferences The Texas 4-H Youth Development will be sponsoring a virtual volunteer conference on a quarterly basis. Workshops will be conducted during the day and evening hours using AgriLife Extension s TTVN WebMeeting system. The training dates are: April 21st and April 22nd August 4th and August 5th For more information, go to: http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/volunteer_conference Or call the Extension Office at: (940) 659-1228 Tractor Supply Paper Clover Campaign The Mineral Wells Tractor Supply Company store will be participating in the Paper Clover Campaign which will be held April 22nd - May 3rd, 2015. Funds raised go to support 4-H on the county, state and national level. The Mineral Wells TSC store does a great job with this event each time. We are looking for volunteers to be in the store to promote the campaign and 4-H. If you would be interested in handing out 4-H information during the campaign, please contact the Extension office. This event is much more successful when we have 4-H ers involved. Also if you are in the store, be sure to thank them for their support. 2015 Horse & Beef Quiz Bowl Contests The District 4-H Horse & Beef Quiz Bowls will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Wilbarger county Auditorium in Vernon. Quiz bowl is an exciting, fast-paced opportunity for youth to display their knowledge of the beef or horse industry and the science surrounding beef cattle and horses. The bowls are played as a double elimination tournament with teams of three to four players going head-to-head for top honors. If you are interested in participating in one of these contest, please contact the Palo Pinto County Extension office by April 15th.
