2 LOUGHBOROUGH SPORT TENNIS CAREER 3 Alistair Higham British Universities Tennis Manager Tennis Foundation Loughborough University is a name synonymous with sporting excellence, with some of the greatest athletes in British sport being alumni of the University. Whilst Loughborough is immensely proud of its athletes achieving on the global stage, there is also recognition of the vital role that coaching, sports science, medicine and research play in driving our athletes, coaching practices and sports forward in order to be doing what others will do tomorrow. As such Loughborough have a history of students and staff moving into significant roles within sport, positively and significantly impacting and influencing athletes, teams and sports from the day-to-day delivery through to the governance of sport itself. As part of this, Loughborough Sport Tennis has entered into an exciting project in partnership with the Tennis Foundation, Shaping the future of tennis in Great Britain, aiming to inspire the tennis workforce of the future through a number of bespoke careers pathways within tennis. These opportunities are open to every student and provide a unique opportunity to gain qualifications, skills, practical experience, networking within the tennis industry and work placement opportunities and most importantly have fun. I am delighted to endorse the Loughborough Sport Tennis project and if you are looking for a career in tennis, you have everything you need here at Loughborough. Helen Reesby Tennis Programme Director Loughborough Sport Tennis has seen a significant investment with the commencement of an exciting project in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Tennis Foundation; aiming to shape the future of tennis through participation and tennis workforce development pathways. As part of this innovative project, we have heavily invested in order to provide a first class training programme and environment for players aspiring to, and competing full time (ATP/WTA) alongside gaining a world class education. We also deliver a welcoming and thriving weekly programme catering for players of all levels and forms of motivation. Additionally, Loughborough Sport Tennis has a proud history of students moving into significant careers within tennis. All students (irrelevant of the course they have enrolled on) have access to the Coach and Volunteer Academy (CVA); whereby students are nurtured through one or a number of career pathways within tennis, gaining qualifications, training, practical experience, mentoring and fantastic networking opportunities. The above are just a number of the opportunities available to our students. The coaching and support staff will go the extra mile and welcome any student who wants to develop personally and professionally to be the best they can be.

As part of our coach pathway, we understand and value the importance of coaching; both in the impact to the participant(s) but also in the life skills and personal skills this develops in the coach themselves. As part of the tennis project, Loughborough Sport Tennis have a full time member of staff designated to student coach development, providing a coaching pathway to suit the needs and demands of the individual; from those looking to go onto full time careers in the sport all the way to those looking to enjoy coaching as a hobby and gain transferable skills for the future. Each of our pathways within Sports Science work in partnership with the national governing body and/ or Loughborough University expertise, whilst fully integrating into the tennis programme providing practical hands on experience as well as training, mentoring and development via experienced professionals. Our Marketing and Communications volunteers are vital for showcasing the impressive Loughborough Sport Tennis offer. This pathway enables students to gain an insight into Marketing & Communications in the tennis industry, providing the technical equipment and skills training to support a range of practical roles. Those that excel in their roles have the opportunity to gain sought after work experience with our partners in the tennis industry. Do you have ambitions to officiate at Wimbledon? Loughborough Sport Tennis work in partnership with the LTA Officiating department to host the National Student Officiating Academy, aimed at recruiting, training and deploying the next generation of tennis officials. This strand is delivered by LTA tutors and is designed to be a fast-track pathway into officiating, with exceptional candidates having the potential to officiate at Wimbledon within the year. The courses were really well structured and concise. The professional lead has been brilliant at suggesting places to officiate at and I have had some great opportunities since on my way to Wimbledon, and hopefully many more to come! TOM PLOWMAN BEng Mechanical Engineering The pathway helped me to progress and develop some valuable skills such as communication, team work and most importantly boosted my confidence. Numerous workshops that we received throughout the year increased my marketing and social media knowledge, knowledge that I was able to use in my internal role. Moreover, through the pathway, I was able to take up a summer role with Tennis Foundation at one of the biggest international wheelchair tennis tournaments after the Grand Slams.
