Chicago Cubs (15-29) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (20-24) Information 2012 Chicago Cubs Media Relations Office May 25, 2012 PNC Park Game No. 45 Road Game No. 21 RHP Ryan Dempster (0-2, 2.28) vs. RHP A.J. Burnett (2-2, 4.78) THE SEASON S FIRST PITT STOP: The Chicago Cubs arrive in Pittsburgh for their first meeting with the Pirates this season and aim to snap a nine-game losing streak, the club s longest skid in 10 years the Cubs began the trip by losing all three games in Houston leading into yesterday s off day. The nine-game slide is the club s longest drought of the season and their longest since May 8-18, 2002, also a nine-game drought... the Cubs tonight aim to avoid their first doubledigit losing streak since dropping the first 14 games of the 1997 campaign. The Cubs tonight also look to avoid only their 15th losing streak of 10 or more games in franchise history in addition to 1997, the Cubs have had only one other double-digit losing streak in the last 25 years, a 10-game drought from May 31-June 10, 1994. The Cubs went 12-9 in 21 games from April 21-May 14 but are 2-11 in their last 13 games Chicago is 3-4-3 in its last 10 series after starting the campaign winless in its first five. Chicago has combined to score 75 runs in the club s 15 wins (5.0 runs per win), and combined to score 80 runs in 29 losses this season (2.8 runs per loss). HAPPY QUASQUICENTENNIAL!!!: The Cubs and Pirates this season celebrate the 125th anniversary of their first meeting on May 6, 1887, a 6-3 Pittsburgh victory at Chicago s West Side Park the clubs tonight meet for the 2,369th time, with the Pirates holding a 1,215-1,153 edge through the first 1,268 encounters the Cubs, however, have the better record in each of the current ballparks, posting a 481-432 mark vs. the Pirates at Wrigley Field and a 51-36 record here at PNC Park. The Cubs enjoy only three rivalries that have lasted longer than theirs with the Pirates Chicago and the Braves franchise first played on May 30, 1876, Chicago and the Phillies first played on May 11, 1883 and Chicago and the Giants first played on May 15, 1883. LOW GO ON THE O: The Cubs have scored in just four of their last 47 innings at the plate starting with the eighth inning a week ago today vs. the White Sox the Cubs scored four runs in the ninth inning during Saturday s 7-4 loss to the White Sox, four runs in the ninth during Monday s 8-4 loss in Houston, one run in the fourth inning Tuesday in Houston and one run in the first inning Wednesday in Houston...
