NEWS AROUND BCHS September 1, 2017 Thought of the Day Just to remind everyone that the people in Texas need our thoughts and prayers. Let s hope that the weather clears up to and the flooding stops. BCHS Mission Statement Bracken County High School will prepare all students to be productive and contributing members of a 21 st century global community.

SPORTING NEWS Go Polar Bears and Lady Bears! Football dates to remember: Homecoming September 22 nd Senior Night October 5th Cross country: Grant County Invitational 9/2 Volleyball: Montgomery @ home - Sept. 5 Bourbon away - Sept. 6

THE HALLS OF BCHS BCHS has had a lot of stuff going on around the school. We have had the typical volleyball games and football games. Our students are starting open gym for girls and boys basketball. Cross country is running and the academic team is preparing for competition. Fund raisers are gearing up so the students can make money for their organizations. Club Days start September 13 th so sign ups and due paying are all happening. And of course classes! This is all normal for starting back to school. But here at Bracken County High our students have had several special events taking place. Of course last week we had the Solar Eclipse Day which was so exciting and educational for the students. The staff, with Lila Brindley leading, worked so hard on preparing activities and it was a great success. Definitely a day the students will remember. This week we were privileged to have Lt. Gov. Hampton and Will Schroder state congressman visit our building. Ms. Hampton talked with some of our FBLA students, Callie Jarrell, Jimmy Poe, Macy Ruf, Codie King, Joshua Kalb and their Adviser, Mrs. Tracy Florer; also Mrs. Karin Poe - parent about an entrepreneur program that she is initiating. The students met with her and listened to what Lt. Gov. Hampton had to say about it and then they could ask questions. Ms. Hampton also toured the building and met several people and made herself visible among the students. Then the group ate in the cafeteria for lunch. Our students and staff have all been so saddened by the disaster in Texas so the Beta Club and their adviser, Katie Cannon, wanted to do something. They challenged Pendleton County Students to try to beat our students in bring in school supplies, clothes, canned food, water and etc. to send to Texas. The winning school would get to see their principal get pied in the face at halftime of

the Bracken/Pendleton football game. So all week our community and schools have brought in things to send to Texas and all of the items were counted. Last night at the game it was announced that Bracken County High School won! Between the two schools 20,000 items have been brought in. Kaitlyn Wills name was picked out of a box and she got to pie our principal, Mr. Dietrich in the face and that she did. So we won the challenge, Mr. Dietrich got the pie in the face and we won the game. Total Success! A special thank you to all the people in our community, the Pendleton county community and both Bracken County Schools and Pendleton County Schools for making this such a success. BCHS Superintendent, Jeff Aulick, says we can still accept donations until Tuesday, September 5 th as that is the day it will be picked up. WKRC, channel 12, in Cincinnati came to our school on Thursday and did a story on the Bracken/Pendleton Rivalry and how they were coming together to send donations to Texas. They interviewed several students about the rivalry that exists between the schools but the students talked about putting that behind them for this mission to send things to devastated Texas. Each of the students realized how important it is as a community to come together when the need is there. The interview was shown on the 6:00 news and can be viewed online. The students that spoke from both schools made us proud. They get it..

Info for you to know If a student wants to take their permit to drive, they must come to the office and get a permit paper that must be signed by the guardian/parent and a school administrator. Please do by Wednesday if you are going on a Friday. Bad grades and poor attendance can keep this from happening. Important fact: All sport participates need a physical. This includes football, volleyball, tennis, track, golf, archery, cross-country, girl s basketball, boy s basketball and cheerleading. KHSAA physicals are required and can be picked up in the office before you go to the doctor. Parents you can check on your student s grades by logging in and looking at the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. If you are interested contact 606-735-2523 Ext. 46 Every Student must pay $20 dues per school year. These dues are used for prom decorating, prom attendance and activities, senior expenses, and other expenses that arise.

All Athletes Please Take Notice If you play any sport at BCHS you are responsible for the uniform that is given to you. You need to keep them clean and free of tears and rips. When you turn the uniforms in to your coach they should be ready to be used for the next season. Even more important the athlete is responsible for turning in their uniforms at the end of that sports season. Right now we need softball uniforms and baseball uniforms that HAVE NOT BEEN TURNED IN. We need all to be turned into the office immediately. The uniforms are very expensive so please if any of you have any uniforms from any sport, return them.

FFA EXCELS AT KENTUCKY STATE FAIR Bracken County High School is so very proud of our FFA students and our 4H students.
