Story Ballet Camp The Nutcracker (Ages 6-8) Led by Miss Lauren, this week-long exploration of the beloved ballet will engage and inspire young dancers. Students will explore the plot, setting and characters; and collaborate to create a short performance. Daily ballet class and fantasy games will further their skills in ballet technique in a creative and engaging way. Each day we will have a different project to embellish our understanding of the ballet story, such as painting scenery or making props- all in preparation for the production on the final day. It will be a magical week, sure to capture the creative spirit of your young dancer. Meets: 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Session: August 5 9 Junior Ballet Intensive (Ages 9-12) This unique program is designed for our middle range dancers, striving for a more rigorous and intensive camp experience. Dancers will refine their technique and maintain their strength through barre and center work, strengthening and pre-pointe exercises, and learning and creating new choreography. Each day, the two groups come together for a lecture/ demonstration that will expand their knowledge about the world of dance, stagecraft, nutrition and wellness. There will be two levels of instruction based on ability and age. Ideal for students who have been identified as near pointe-ready and those who have recently been placed en pointe, as it offers an intensive course of study to build pointe skills in preparation for the fall and Nutcracker season. Fee: $325 per session Meets: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm Sessions: June 24 28 Balanchine Exploration Aug 12 16 Nutcracker Performance Readiness

Classic Intensive (Ages: 10 years and up) Our rigorous all-day program will focus on classical technique - pointe work, men s class, and variations. Students will train with Guest Balanchine artists Wilhelmina Frankfurt and Steven Caras, joined by Balanchine faculty members Shelley Scott and David McNaughton. Their approach will expose each dancer to a variety of technical methods, designed to advance each student s strength, speed, agility, and knowledge. Choreographer David McNaughton will be staging excerpts from his delightful original ballet, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The Intensive will culminate in a performance which will also include Stars and Stripes finale, inspired by Balanchine s great Americana masterwork. Ms. Frankfurt and Ms. Scott will serve as Ballet Mistresses for the McNaughton piece, coaching and refining the dancers in their roles. Mr. Caras, Emmy Award winning dance photographer, will document Ms. Frankfurt, Ms. Scott and Mr. McNaughton working with dancers throughout the process. Virginia Stapleton, founding artistic director of The Stapleton School, plans to present The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in its entirety in the spring of 2020. Ms. Stapleton is also exploring the possibility of traveling with the cast to perform The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at the prestigious 2020 Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. In 1992 the fledgling Stapleton Youth Company performed this ballet to critical acclaim at the Fringe Festival in Scotland. Note: The Classic Intensive is open to dancers in Youth Company 2 and higher this season. Fee: $1300 ($150 Early Bird discount when enrolled by Apr. 6) Meets: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Session: July 22 August 2 Performance: Friday, August 2nd, 4:00 pm at The Playhouse, San Anselmo

Contemporary Intensive Open Class (Ages 13 & up) This week long contemporary dance intensive will be led by Casey Lee Thorne, Bay Area artist, teacher, and Artistic Director of Inside Out Contemporary Ballet. Geared towards ballet trained dancers who want to try something new, students will experience a variety of movement styles including a GYROKINESIS warm up as well as developing skills in floor work, inversions, and release technique. In addition, students will have the opportunity to create their own dances as they experiment with classes in composition and improvisation. This is sure to be a week of fun and creativity as we expand the possibilities of what dance can be. Join us! We will present an in-studio demonstration on the final day. Meets: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Session: June 17 21 (Ages 12 & up) Summer training is essential for aspiring dancers, as flexibility, strength and technique can diminish over the long summer break. Summer session offers the ultimate in convenience: you pick the days and weeks you want to take class. The best news: you ll come back strong and well-prepared for fall ballet and Nutcracker season. Daily two hour class for students in Advanced 1-4. *Asterisked weeks offer class for students currently in Ballet 4 & 5. Special focus on Nutcracker audition preparation during the week of August 19. Fee: $30 per class (Base price, quantity discounts apply) Meets: 4:00 to 6:00 pm Location: Stapleton School, 118 Greenfield Ave, San Anselmo Sessions: June 10 14 June 24 28 July 8 12 July 15 19* Aug 12 16 Aug 19 23* Private and Semi Private Lessons are available during the summer, for students ages 10 and up.
