The University of Alabama track and field team will travel 15 athletes (11 men, 4 women) and one relay team to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The 2016 Championships will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The Tide has entries in the NCAA Championships ranging across all disciplines: seven throwers (six men, one woman) qualifi ed in four events, including 2016 SEC discus champion Daniel Haugh. The sophomore led an Alabama sweep of the medals at the SEC meet in Tuscaloosa on May 14 as the Tide fi nished 1-2-3-5 in the event. Freshman Kord Ferguson will compete in both the discus and the shot put. Alabama has two jumpers (one man, one woman) slated to compete in the meet. Junior Quanesha Burks, the defending NCAA outdoor champion and the 2015 and 2016 SEC outdoor champion in the women s long jump, will compete to defend her NCAA title. Burks currently holds the top mark nationally with a winning effort of 22-2 1/2 (6.77 meters) at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Senior Justin Fondren will compete in the men s high jump after earning All-America honors in 2015. The team will also travel four sprinters and hurdlers (three men, one woman) to compete in four individual events, led by senior Ahmed Ali who ranks No. 4 nationally in the men s 200 meters with a time of 20.16. Junior Vanessa Clerveaux lowered her personal best in the 100 hurdles twice at the East Regional, runing a 13.15 in the prelims and a 13.12 in the fi nal to qualify. There will be two Tide athletes (one man, one woman) competing in long sprits and distance races. Junior Alex Gholston returns in the women s 400 meters after earning All-America honors at the meet a year ago. Junior Antibahs Kosgei is coming off consecutive second place fi nishes at the Southeastern Conference Championships and the East Regional in the 10,000 meters and is looking for another strong showing at the 2016 Championships. In the relays, the women s 4x400 meter relay team of Alex Gholston, Diamond Gause, Domonique Williams and Katie Funcheon posted the fi fth-fastest time in school history (3;33.48) at the East Regional to earn the trip to Eugene. We ve had a great season in the throws but we ve also qualifi ed in the sprints, long sprints, distance, hurdles and jumps this season. Our team is focused and prepared to put on a good performance at the Championships. In the Rankings The Alabama men s track and fi eld team checks in at No. 11, while the women are No. 37 in this week s U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings released Monday, May 30. The men s team posted 109.31 points while the women scored 52.29 points. The Southeastern Conference continues to dominate by earning the No. 1 spots on the men s and women s conference Index Top 10 list, totaling 1,979.99 points for the men and 2,115.64 points for the women. Pinder ran a personal-best time of 10.28 at the Florida Relays on April 1. The senior from Locust Grove, Ga., clocked a 10.40 in the East Regional fi rst round and a 10.38 in the quarterfi nals to qualify for the Championships. He posted a 10.50 in the preliminaies at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Pinder earned All-America honors in the 4x100 meter relay in 2015. The semifi nals of the 100 meters are scheduled for 5:46 p.m. on Wednesday. 200 Meters Ahmed Ali Senior All-American Ahmed Ali returns to the Championships in the 200 meters. He clocked a personal-best time of 20.16 on April 1 at the Florida Relays, a mark that was the fastest in the world this year at that point and is the third-fastest time in school history. He turned in a 20.46 in the prelims and a 20.39 in the quarterfi nal at the East Regional. The regional times rank eighth and fi fth in school history. Ali also clocked a 20.46 in 2015 at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.The 200-meter semifi nals are scheduled for 6:44 p.m. on Wednesday. 10,000 Meters Antibahs Kosgei Junior Antibahs Kosgei will run the 10,000 meters for Alabama. Kosgei ran a personal-best of 29:19.63 at the Stanford Invitational on April 1, the fi fth-fastest time in the Southeastern Conference this season. He fi nished second at the SEC Championships in a time of 29:49.16 and second at the East Regional in 30:03.59. The 10,000-meter fi nal is scheduled for 7:48 p.m. on Wednesday. 110-Meter Hurdles Tony Brown Junior Tony Brown is the Tide qualifi er in the 110-meter hurdles. Brown ran a personal-best of 13.52 to fi nish fouth at the East Regional. He posted a time of 13.81 in the preliminary round in Jacksonville. Brown fi nished seventh at the Southeastern Conference Championships with a time of 13.98 after posting a then personal-best 13.78 in the prelims. Brown earned All-America honors in the 4x100 meter relay in 2015. The 110-meter hurdle semifi nals are scheduled for 5:32 p.m. Wednesday. High Jump Justin Fondren An All-American a year ago, senior Justin Fondren returns to the NCAA Championships in 2016 after an eighth-place fi nish in the East Regional with a mark of 6-11 3/4 (2.12m). That mark equaled his performance at the Battle on the Bayou on April 8. Fondren fi nished fourth in the high jump at the Southeastern Conference Championships with a season-best mark of 7-0 1/2 (2.15m). He also cleared that height at the War Eagle Invitational on April 23. The the high jump fi nal is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday. Hammer Elias Hakansson Junior Elias Hakannson owns the top 10 marks in school history in the hammer throw, four of which have been set in 2016. Hakansson fi nished fi fth at the SEC Championships at 224-7 (68.47m), the eighth-best effort in Alabama history. He posted a season-best mark of 227-4 (69.29m) at the Battle on the Bayou on April 8, the sixth-best mark in school history. He posted the ninth (223-6: 68.12m) and tenth-best (222-11: 67.94m) school marks at the Alabama Relays on March 17. The junior from Halmstad, Sweden fi nished ninth at the East Regional with an effort of 218-4 (66.54m).The hammer throw fi nal is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Shot Put Kyle Felpel, Kord Ferguson Freshman Kord Ferguson and junior Kyle Felpel will compete in the shot put. Felpel posted a season-best 61-7 3/4 (18.78m) to fi nish sixth at the East Regional. That mark ranks 10th all-time at Alabama. He fi nished fi fth at the Southeastern Conference Championships with an effort of 61-5 (18.72m). Ferguson fi nished third at the Southeastern Conference Championships with a season-best mark of 62-6 (19.05m). The throw is the fi fth-best in Alabama history. He was 11th at the East Regional with an effort of 61-1 1/4 (18.62m). The shot put fi nal is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. 3

Reed (199-7: 60.83m), Williams (198-2: 60.40m), Ferguson (197-3: 60.13m) and Haugh (195-3: 59.53m) rank 1-4 respectively in the SEC. She fi nished 10th at the East Regional in a time of 52.40, the eighth-fastest performance ever for Alabama. Gholston also owns the seventh and ninth-best marks in Tide history. The 400-meter semifi nals are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday. Gholston will also run on Alabama s 4x400 relay. 100-Meter Hurdles Vanessa Clerveaux Junior Vanessa Clerveaux is slated to compete in the 100-meter hurdle semifi nals at 5:32 p.m. on Thursday. Clerveaux has fi nished in the top six in six of her eight outings this season and ran a personal-best 13.12 in the East Regioal quarterfi nals. She clocked a then-personal best 13.15 in the prelims in Jacksonville. Clerveaux ran a 13.29 to fi nish sixth at the Southeastern Conference Championships after running a 13.23 in the prelims. The squad fi nished seventh at the Southeastern Conference Championships in 3:33.80, the seventh-fastest time in school history. They also ran a 3:34.67 at the Battle on the Bayou, which is the eighth-best mark at Alabama. The 4x400-meter relay semifi nals are scheduled for 7:48 p.m. on Thursday. Long Jump Quanesha Burks Defending NCAA champion Quanesha Burks returns to Eugene seeking a second-consecutive long jump title at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Burks leads the nation with a season-best mark of 22-2 1/2 (6.77m) that she set to win the SEC Championships. She also recorded a mark of 21-5 1/2 at the SEC Championships. Also won the War Eagle and LSU invitationals with identical 22-2 1/4 marks that stood as the best in the nation until her SEC leap. Burks owns the top ten jumps in school history. The long jump fi nal is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday. Shot Put Haley Teel Haley Teel will compete in the shot put competition for Alabama. Teel turned in a personal-best mark of 53-6 1/2 (16.31m) to fi nish sixth at the Southeastern Conference Championships. She followed that up with an effort of 53-4 1/2 (16.26m) to fi nish 10th at the East Regional. The two marks are the fourth- and fi fth-best at Alabama. all-time. Posted the sixth- (53-4 1/4: 16.26m) and eighth-best (52-6 3/4: 16.02m) marks in school history at the Florida Relays and the LSU Invitational.
