We ve allowed them to leave the beers in the coolers and dole them out, one at a time, and keep track of them. This has resulted in disagreements with the staff on how many were left. The Board of Trustees has therefore taken the latter privilege away. From now on, if one pays for a bucket of beer, that person will get the entire bucket at the time of purchase. Tuesday Night Pool League Tuesday Night Pool League has once again come to an end. Eagles 8 (pictured with a couple of cheerleaders) were the league champions and consisted of Dave Weeder, George Ogg, Joe & Rich Araujo. Ranked highest in the tournament at the end of the year and losing the last night by the narrowest of fashions were Brian Taylor, Tye Johnson, JD Williamson & Donnie Cerise of Eagles 1. The rest of us just had a lot of fun and got a little money back also. Eagles State Pol Tournament At the State Eagles Tournament held over the April 1st weekend in North Platte, 5 teams from Holdrege competed in the 134-team, 1072-person tournament. We had 3 teams in the top 50: The Little Giants (primarily the Eagles 8 team and other members that have move out of Phelps County) came in at 14th. The Loweded Bar (Holdrege members, but all live in Kearney and play in that city s leagues) ended up in 26th. And Never Have 2 Much Fun (consisting of Eagles 1 and the Hawaiians of Eagles 3) ended up in 48th. Pictured are the Never Have 2 Much Fun team and the Lazy 8 s. One cannot truly imagine the size of this tournament unless you see it in person. 72 tables in one huge room, along with grandstands, semi-trailers full of computer equipment, bars, sitting tables for contestants, etc. It is an honor for us to represent Holdrege at an event of this size.
10th Annual Mike Lane Memorial Poker Run This years recipients of the Mike Lane Memorial Poker Run are the Kevin and Sara Stehl family of Bertrand, NE. They have been hit hart physically, emotionally and financially over the past year. Having had frequent migraines since the age of ten, currently a junior at HHS, Riley Stehl was diagnosed with and treated for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). After being homebound and unable to attend school due to the severity of his symptoms during the 2015-2016 school year, he (and his mom) spent several weeks attending the Mayo Clinic s Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Clinic and learning how to function despite his symptoms and returning to an average teenage life. In September of 2016, Riley s dad, Kevin began experiencing severe back pain, leading to a spinal fusion in February 2017. In November 2016, his mom Sara, was diagnosed with breast cancer leading to a mastectomy in January 2017 followed by chemotherapy and eventually radiation. Sara s treatment requires travel to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Hastings, NE for treatment/care. Proceeds will assist the Stehl family with medical expenses not covered by insurance, travel expenses and lost wages due to the time off work from their illnesses. The poker run will be held on Saturday June 3rd. Registration is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, with the ride starting at 1:00 pm sharp. 2 & 4 wheels are welcome, buses too! Registration is $15 per person and $20 for couples. Extra rolls can be purchased for $10 as well! Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.
