page 2 Cdr Debbie Neal, AP At the helm, August Everyone had a really fun time at the Summer Blast picnic at Dana Point Marina. Jan pulled out all the stops in planning this event. She and Barry were up at 5 am to reserve our picnic table. Thank you Jan and Barry for your efforts. We enjoyed lots of delicious food including salads, dips etc. Then it was game time. Boy did we have a a lot of laughs playing Jan s games, especially the one with the unknown object in the bag that you had to guess. Another game was guessing the candy bar that goes with a question or statement. Here is an example: What do you call people who buy boats? Answer: Dum Dums. I don t know about you, but I have never eaten a Dum Dum and have no idea what kind of candy bar it is. Another one was: What sound does Escapade make when it hits the rocks? Answer: Crunch. Now, I have, admittedly, eaten one of those. The weather was a bit on the cool side which was a welcome relief from the heat of the Inland Empire. The picnic lasted quite awhile and did not begin breaking up until around 5 pm. By all appearances, those in attendance were having a wonderful time. A huge thank you goes out to Jan and Barry for planning this event. The only caveat was that no one brought a prospective member to the event. Remember, we are trying to get new people interested in joining Arrowhead. We all need to make an attempt to get others interested in our organization. I am working on trying to get my brother to join us. What person or persons are you trying to get to join Arrowhead? XO Deliberations P/C Darrell Sausser, August 2014 This has been one really busy July for me. My rental tenant of 18 years suddenly moved out, leaving without paying rent and leaving the place in a mess. Now with new carpet and tile, complete interior paint, and exterior facia plus soffit repaint, the place is again looking respectable. And that wasn t all, Escapade did the July Harbor Series race, but did poorly in the very light winds. The alternator in Escapade decided to quit working, so that removal, rebuild, reinstall also took place. Then there was the great Dana Point Picnic that cruisechair Jan Freeman planned. There was good participation with 24 people attending and enjoying the delightful weather plus good company, and of course sea stories too. Thanks to Jan for the fun 3 games that were played. A great afternoon was enjoyed by all. The Freeman s were up and guarding one of the BBQ ramadas before 0600 that Saturday morning. A great deal of planning and preparation goes into an event the Freemans did a superb job! Looking ahead to the next dinner meeting, both Cdr Debbie and I will be participating in the SoCal Ta Ta rally in September, thus will be at sea during the September dinner/meeting. The rally lasts for 6 days and starts at Santa Barbara, ends at the Isthmus of Catalina. In the absence of Cdr Debbie and XO Darrell, AO Mark Gunn will be in charge of the September 10th dinner/meeting. Make plans to be there, Mark has three very interesting programs he s considering. August promises to be almost as busy as July with Escapade participating in the Marina Yacht Club LONG CRUISE SOUTH. This is an annual event for the club with one year cruising North, the next year cruising South. Since District 13 has scheduled the annual D13 BBQ on the 16th, Escapade will leave the Marina fleet in Mission Bay to join the D13 group at the isthmus. Mission Bay to Isthmus - a long passage of around 76 nautical miles.
