Jenny Prochazka Carroll Performers of the Week Week 1: March 31, 2003 Prochazka, a sophomore from Sussex, Wis., finished first in the shot put at the Wheaton College Invitational Saturday to lead the Lady Pioneers to a fourth place team finish. She threw 44' 2" (NCAA Provisional qualifier) in her first meet of 2003. In addition, she finished fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 115' 7". She tallied 15 of Carroll's 54 team points. Week 2: April 7, 2003 Sarah Wallen Sarah Wallen, a sophomore from Union City, Mich./Union City High School has been named Midwest Conference track and field performer of the week. Wallen placed second in the pole vault at the Central College Outdoor Invitational with a new school record vault of 9' 6". The mark of 9' 6" is also a full foot higher than her previous outdoor personal record. Keenan King King, a sophomore from Hannibal, Missouri (Hannibal HS), was magnificent for at the Warburg Select Meet in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, turning in the second-fastest times in school history in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. The sophomore finished second in both events with times of 10.74 and 21.50. The former time is just one-hundredth off s school record. Both times are provisional qualifiers for the national meet, and the latest rankings have King fith in the nation in the 100-meter dash and fourth in 200-meter dash. In addition, King ran a leg on the 4x100 meter relay, which finished fourth. Keenan King King, a sophomore from Hannibal, Missouri (Hannibal HS), shattered his own school record in the pole vault by nearly a foot at the Warburg Select Meet in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. The sophomore cleared 17 0-3/4 to win the event and is now the nation s number one ranked pole vaulter by
11-1/2 inches. Jill Hoops Hoops, a senior from Hanna City, Ill. (Farmington HS), qualified provisionally for the 400-meter hurdles by running a second-place time of 1:02.73 at the Wartburg Select Meet in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. That time is currently ranked third in the nation. The senior also took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and ran a strong lead off leg of 58.7 in the 4x400m relay. Kara Kuhrts Kuhrts, a senior from Toulon, Ill. (Stark County HS), excelled at the Wartburg Select Meet in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, winning two field events and placing fourth in another. The senior triple jumped 37 10-3/4, breaking her own school record by five inches. The provisionally-qualifying jump is currently the eighth-best in the nation this year. In addition, Kuhrts won the high jump by clearing 5 1, and her 16 10-1/4 long jump was good for fourth place. Kuhrts also performed well in the 400- meter dash (1:00.24) and 4x400m relay. Ebert, a senior from Janseville, Wis. (Craig HS), earned a NCAA Provisional Qualifying spot at the NCAA Division III Championships by winning the 800-meter run at the Elmhurst College Invitational with at time of 2:14.30. Ebert s time is the eighth fastest in the nation and is also a new record, breaking her own previous school record of 2:17.45. Shelley Ebert Lawrence Jones, a senior from Port Byron, Ill. (East Moline HS), finished second in the high jump at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. The senior s jump of 5 6 puts her in the top five in the nation and is also an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Jump.
Melissa Jones Matt Hargleroad Hargleroad, a senior from Jeffersonville, Ind., (Oak Park-River Forest HS) took fifth place in the 5000 meter run at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. The senior s time is a lifetime personal record by over 25 seconds and is also the second-best time in the Midwest Conference this season. Kolade Agbaje-Williams Lawrence Agbaje-Williams, a first-year performer from Evergreen Park, Ill., (Evergreen Park HS) placed second in the long jump at the Elmhurst College Invitational. Agbaje- Williams jump of 23 00.50 is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships. Agbaje-Williams also took fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 45 07.25. Corinne Handy Carroll Handy, a senior from St. Louis Park, Minn. (St. Louis Park HS), led Carroll at the Loras Open. The senior finished first in the 400- meter, second in the 200-meter, and was the third leg in the second place 4x100 relay. Handy set a school record in the 200-meter, while the relay team set a new school record and reached an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 48.51. Erin Jenewein St. Norbert Jenewein, a senior from Prospect Heights, Ill. (Prospect HS), finished first in the hammer throw at the Wisconsin Private College Championships hosted by Carthage. The senior s winning toss of 148 10 is an NCAA Provisional qualifier.
Dontel Thomas Thomas, a sophomore from Sugar Grove, Ill. (West Aurora HS), qualified provisionally for the national championships in the 110-meter hurdles with his second place time of 14.71 at the Loras Open on Saturday. The sophomore s time is the best in the MWC this season and is ranked eighth in the nation. Thomas also won the event in s Midweek Open. Ben Loy Loy, a junior from Sterling, Ill. (Sterling HS), placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47 1 and third in the javelin with a throw of 155 2 at the Midweek. Loy s distance in the shot put is a season personal record as well as the best of the year by a Midwest Conference participant. Shelley Gazdik Beloit Gazdik, a junior from New Richmond, Wis. (Somerset HS), finished second in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the Forest Rittgers Invite at Coe College. The junior s time of 15.69 in the 100m hurdles ranks second in the current MWC standings. Gazdik s time of 64.20 in the 400m hurdles also ranks second in the MWC and is an NCAA Provisional qualifier. Sarah Wallen Wallen, a sophomore from Union City, Mich. (Union City HS), placed first in the pole vault at 10 feet and sixth in the high jump at 4 9-3/4 at the Forest Rittgers Invitational at Coe College. The sophomore s vault of 10 feet broke her own school record by 4 inches, and her high jump was a career personal record by 6 inches. Joe Kostiha Beloit Kostiha, a senior from Gordon, Texas (Gordon HS), took first place in the javelin at the Forest Rittgers Invite at Coe College with a throw of 189 7. The senior s throw is an NCAA Provisional qualifier. In six meets this year, Kostiha is unbeaten in the javelin competition, with all winning throws over 180 feet. Also, Kostiha is ranked first
