DECEMBER 3, 2010 GECKO ISSUE #9 Greetings everyone, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I certainly did! The best part was that I did not have to see all of you on Friday. Ha-ha. Write captions for the selected photos. Meetings Weekly The Hilton 7050 Johnson Drive Pleasanton, CA 94588 Friday s at 12:15PM In all seriousness I typically use Thanksgiving as a time to reflect and give thanks to those who deserve it. I am thankful for being part of the greatest Rotary Club in the World! I am thankful for all the great people in this club and for all the fantastic things we do locally and internationally. As we move toward the end of the first half of my year as President, I would like to remind our long time members and our new members and everyone in between (that is you Frank as you are definitely somewhere between! Kevin you also find you way into this special club with that Halloween costume. I still have nightmares about it. I tried to talk to Sister Noonan but she/he was unable to erase the image as well.) that we have a couple of great social events coming up. First, the Noonan s have been gracious enough to open up their beautiful home to us on December 12th. This event has been a long time tradition of this club and is always good for many laughs, good company, and great food and drink. Don t forget to bring a Toy for Tots and don t forget to bring a A White Elephant Gift. This should be a ton of fun and thanks again to the Noonan s. Next we will be hosting our Christmas Poker Party on December 17th. If you would like to participate in this, the poker will begin around 1:00 and it requires a $20 buy in. We will go until we have a winner. If you are not a poker player, please feel free to join us for lunch. Lastly, I want to wish everyone a safe trip to Mexico to visit El Oasis. Be safe and keep spreading the good work that we as Rotarians do! Have a great weekend! Gordon
ROTARY EVENTS IN REVIEW: Project SAM Mission Accomplished!! On the afternoon of November 13th, a small but hearty group of PNR members and guests gathered for Operation SAM (Supporting All Military). We all worked at four different stations. Alice headed up the FET (women s) group and packed 25 buddy boxes for those brave volunteers. The rest of us (see attached photos) divided into three sections. First we had to fill 100 goodie bags that contained gum, snacks, power bars, nuts, candies and other assorted treats from home. Then we set about our tasks of loading our 25 each, boxes (or should I say, stuffing them to the max?) Each team put different things into the boxes, depending the station where they were working. The project was a huge success and a sincere thank you to all who participated, especially the Red Badgers! You all were great. Ron Come and join us for a meeting!
