Geofabrics Products to improve the playability of your course golf courses
Megaflo Drainage is the foundation of high performance. Introduction Golf course superintendents are under pressure to improve their golf courses to meet the demands of the players. A major issue is the improvement of course drainage to ensure a consistent playing surface, no matter the weather conditions. The main focus has been on greens as these are high traffic areas. The green is the most important area of the golf course and has the highest traffic across it and is one of the highest maintenance costs associated to maintain it. Changes introduced in the 2004 USGA include the alternate use of corrugated polyethylene flat-pipe as an acceptable alternative to the use of standard, round corrugated pipe for putting green drainage systems. Specifically, the flat pipe must conform to ASTM D 7001, and be a minimum of 300mm in width. Cuspated drains are not recommended. Californian Green The use of flat pipe for putting green drainage was pioneered by Dr. Michael Hurdzan on California Sand Greens, which completely eliminated the need for gravel in the construction process. The acceptance by the USGA of flat pipe in putting green construction was supported in part through research conducted by Dr. Ed McCoy at the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center and others, along with successful installations in greens across the country. Performance Why use Megaflo? No trenches No excavated overburden to be disposed of Less equipment required on site Less supervision and level of control required No imported trench backfill Reduced costs Large surface area Twice the drainage response time (ie. quicker to drain) Installation Significant reduction in installation time Full set of corresponding fittings available Not disturbing green base The concept has proven itself during the last 10 years in over 100 courses across the United States and Australia that have installed the Megaflo flat panel pipe, both in California Sand Green style and traditional style greens. Although this type of pipe is slightly more expensive per metre than round pipe, the need to dig trenches, remove excavated material and backfill with gravel is eliminated as the flat pipe is placed directly on the prepared subgrade. Significant savings are realised as a typical green can be completely tiled in under three hours, with an average installed cost less than half that of traditional round pipe. Furthermore, due to its greater surface area, the drainage response rate for Megaflo flat pipe is more than that of traditional 100mm round pipe. This leads to a faster draining green and subsequently greater playing time after a rain event. Other areas that benefit from the use of Megaflo Tees Fairways 3
BunkerMat Sand retention and drainage matting for bunkers Introduction Bunkers are a challenge for both the golfer and the golf course architect. Keeping bunkers playable is an ongoing issue with greenkeepers. Golf course architects want to create bunkers with more dramatic shape and structure that are both aesthetically pleasing and that challenge the player. This has aggravated the ever present problems of bunker drainage and washouts which cause sand erosion on steep bunker faces and silt contamination, resulting in high cost maintenance. Bunkers can define a golf course. A well integrated and aesthetically pleasing set of bunkers that are well maintained enhance the overall pleasure of playing the course and gives pride to its members. Great bunkers can elevate a course in stature and style while poor bunkers can detract from a golf course s perception. Bunkers are an important element in any golf course. BunkerMat can help you build bunkers of the highest standard. Use the Australian made and proven product of choice by many golf courses. BunkerMat - the easy solution to your bunker problems BunkerMat is a three dimensional erosion and drainage matting. The bunker sand is trapped within the open structure of the fibres. This increases the incline that sand can be held. BunkerMat is also a filtration barrier which limits the migration of fines from the subsoils rising to the base of the bunker and contaminating the sand, making them unplayable. As a result, there is less need for maintenance and reduces the need for replacement sand. Whether for the construction of a new bunker or reconstruction of an existing bunker, BunkerMat is the product to improve your bunkers. Easy installation 4
Why use BunkerMat? Minimise sand contamination Limits the movement of soil particles from the natural soil base into the clean bunker sand. Minimises bunker face erosion The three dimentional structure allows fast and effecient drainage of water which reduces the chance of sand movement during heavy rainfall events. Designed for use in high rainfall regions. Increased bunker face angles The open fibre structure traps the grains of sand which increases the friction angle and allows placement on steeper slopes. Aesthetics Colour designed to suit bunker sand. Ease of installation Convenient sized rolls. Flexible allows it to conform to natural bunker contours. Non abrasive. Durability First quality UV stabilised polypropylene fibres, delivering the highest level of UV resistance. Resistant to fertilizers and pesticides generally associated with golf courses. Maintenance Installation of system can significantly reduce bunker maintenance costs. 5
ELCOSEAL Through the use of ELCOSEAL Geosynthetic Clay Liners, stunning and practicle wetlands, streams, dams and ornamental ponds can be constructed. ELCOSEAL is an impermeable layer that restricts the flow of water into the ground. Manufactured by a uniform laying high quality Bentonite clay between two geotextiles and locked together through the process of needle punching and thermal locking the fibres. ELCOSEAL removes the need to use thick layers of clay to line your water courses, as a single layer of ELCOSEAL does the work with great effect. The system has a proven track record world wide and in Australia where ELCOSEAL has been manufactured since 1996. bidim bidim is a non woven continuous filament needle punched polyester geotextile. Geofabrics has been manufacturing bidim in Albury, NSW since 1987. A high percentage of the polyester used in the manufacturing comes from recycled soft drink bottles. bidim is used as a separating fabric to stop the migration of sub-soil fines at the bunker base from passing through to the clean sand. Bidim also helps prevents sand from passing through to the sub-soil drains. bidim is also used as wrapping for subsoil drainage. The opening size and porosity of bidim has evolved from over 20 years experience in applications under Australian soil conditions, ensuring optimum performance and serviceability. 6
ELCOROCK ELCOROCK are extremely robust geotextile containers designed to be filled with sand to form a stable, and durable revetment element. ELCOROCK is a soft and user friendly solution for coastal and riverine erosion problems. The containers have been used successfully around the world in marine and foreshore applications. ELCOROCK containers are manufactured from needle Punched fibre geotextile. This type of geotextile provides the best protection against harsh environment issues. TurfPave Turfpave is a lightweight plastic grid structure specially designed to support turf. Positioned under the grass surface, Turfpave distributes loads from pedestrian and vehicular traffic to the base course below, minimizing grass and root compaction. The interconnected cells allow roots to develop with minimal restriction, resulting in a durable and stable grass surface. 40mm high cells enhance root development Side notch to promote vigorous root growth 90% unrestricted root base area Snap-on joining ensures TurfPave TM remains in place Centre perfection allows pegging 7
