She has also hit a pair of three-pointers in the last two games and 4-for-7 from the free throw line... In the last two games, Johnson is shooting 69.2 percent from the field and 80 percent from behind the three-point line. Sherae Bonner has 816 career rebounds ranking seventh in the WCU record books. Bonner is just the seventh Catamount in the program s history to have 800 or more rebounds in a career... The last Catamount to do so was in 2008 when former WCU player Chevon Keith ended her career with 947... Bonner is now chasing sixth place needing 25 rebounds to overtake the spot held by Marilyn Sheets (1967-7) who ended her career with 840... The Spartans shot a scorching 52.3 percent from the field, including hitting 10 three-pointers of their own, to outpace the Catamounts. Unlike in previous Southern Conference games this season, Western Carolina did not have a significant scoring drought in the game but just couldn t maintain a basket for basket foot race with the Spartans. It was more of a slow and steady chipping away and daunting leads by UNCG that spoiled the Catamounts attempt to win a conference game in the first go around in league play. It was a five-point disparity in the first two periods that equated to a 10-point lead for the Spartans in the first half and seven and four-point differentials in the third and fourth period that equated to the Catamounts 21-point loss to UNCG. UNCG s Nadine Soliman put on a show from behind the arch going 7-for-7 from three-point land ending the game with a game-high 33 points. After leading for most of the second and third period, Western Carolina gave up the lead before the end of the third period as the Mocs led 29-28 after three. The Catamounts played stifling defense in the second period holding Chattanooga to just one field goal but scoring droughts were the death knell for Western Carolina. In the fourth period, Western Carolina hit just one field goal allowing Chattanooga to go from leading by one to end the third period to building a double-digit lead to close out the game. She became the 11th Head Coach for Western Carolina women s basketball April 17, 2015. As a second-year head coach, McCormick helped guide Sherae Bonner to her best season as a Catamount in her junior campaign. For Bonner s efforts, she was named to the SoCon All-Conference third team. In her first season, McCormick helped produce a Southern Conference All-Freshman selection in Raziyah Farrington who ranked second on the team averaging 8.7 points per game. McCormick has served at five different institutions during her career including two stints as an assistant at Western Carolina. Her teams made nine postseason appearances with four apiece in both the NCAA Tournament and WNIT. She returns to Cullowhee after spending two years as an assistant coach at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. In her second year as an assistant at Siena, Mc- Cormick helped guide the Saints to a 22-13 overall record, advancing to the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI) championship game. Siena s 22 wins this season were a 13-win improvement from the previous year, which was tied for the second-best turnaround in all of Division I women s basketball. Siena made its first national postseason tournament appearance in 12 years, and became the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) school to win three games in a single postseason and advance to the championship game of a tournament. Prior to taking the position at Siena, McCormick spent nine years serving under Kellie Harper at both Western Carolina (2004-09) and North Carolina State (2009-13). During that time, she helped guide those schools to three NCAA Tournament and four WNIT berths. The Wolfpack made three postseason appearances during McCormick s four seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2010. That season her recruiting efforts help land the 19th best recruiting class in the nation according to Blue Star Basketball, 28th by ESPN Hoop- Gurlz and 29th by Premier Scouting Service. McCormick, who began her coaching career at Western Carolina from 1994-97 as an assistant to head coach Gary Peters, helped guide the Catamounts to four postseason berths in her five seasons working on Harper s staff, including a pair of Southern Conference titles. She also oversaw the program s academic success which captured three WBCA Academic Top-25 awards in five seasons including the 2007-08 squad which ranked fifth nationally. Prior to her second stint at Western Carolina, McCormick made coaching stops at Georgia Tech (2003-04), Charlotte (2001-03) and UNC Wilmington (1997-01), serving as the associate head coach during her final three seasons with the Seahawks at the latter. She was the recruiting coordinator at both Georgia Tech and Charlotte, which boasted the No. 5 and No. 24 ranked recruiting classes in the country in 2004 and 2002 respectively according to the All Star Girls Report. A native of High Point, N.C., McCormick is a 1994 graduate of Catawba College. She holds her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and is a member of both the Women s Basketball Coaches Association and Black Coaches Association. The first player in school history to amass both 1,000 career points and rebounds, she holds Catawba s school record for both career (1,244) and single season rebounds (374).
