WEST VIRGINIA POWER GAME NOTES South Atlantic League - Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2009-601 Morris St. Suite 201- Charleston, WV 25301-304-344-2287 - www.wvpower.com West Virginia Power (20-21) AT COLUMBIA FIREFLIES (21-19) Game 42 May 21, 2017 Spirit Communications Park Columbia, SC Radio: The Jock 1300 & 1340 - wvpower.com Airtime: 1:45 P.M. PITCHING MATCH-UP RH Matt Anderson (3-2, 3.50) vs. RH Harol Gonzalez (2-2, 6.00) Anderson: Took ND on 5/14 in relief vs CSC in 2.0 IP without a hit and two K (10-2 Power) Gonzalez: Earned W with 7.0 IP @ LWD on 5/15 allowing four H and one ER (6-1 Fireflies) LEADING OFF: The West Virginia Power came out swinging on Saturday night. The Power put up four runs in the second, due in large part to a bases clearing double by Ty Moore. Clark Eagan launched a grand slam in the third inning and West Virginia cruised the rest of the way. Eagan finished with five RBI and Eduardo Vera took his second win of the season as the Power downed the Columbia Fireflies 9-3. West Virginia has won back-to-back games and look for the series win today in game four. SO FRESH, SO CLEAN: Spirit Communications Park opened for the 2016 season and is in just its second year of existence. The Power went 2-6 in this ballpark in 2016, playing their first ever game here on June 9, an 11-2 loss. GIMME GIMME MORE: This season, the Power are 16-3 when scoring five or more runs in a game, good for a.833 winning percentage. West Virginia is 4-18 when scoring less than five runs. WVP Hitting- WVP Pitching- G 3 W-L 2-1 SERIES STATISTICS AVG..243 AB 107 H 26 R 14 ERA 1.47 IP 27.1 MATT S STATS: Matt Anderson takes the hill on Sunday. In his last five outings, he has not allowed more than two earned runs in a single appearance. Anderson holds a 1.50 ERA during that span. He has struck out 21 batters as well. ACE BATTLE: Columbia starter Merandy Gonzalez and Fireflies teammate Jordan Humphreys are battling for the title of Columbia Ace. The teammates have essentially matched records, 5-1 and 6-1 respectively, and ERAs, 1.59 and 1.81 respectively. AINT IT GRAND: Clark Eagan hit a grand slam on Saturday night. The round-tripper was the third slam for the Power this season. Alexis Bastardo and Carlos Munoz have the other two in 2017. All three grand slams have come on the road. West Virginia nearly had two slams on Saturday. Ty Moore lined a double off the top of the right field wall in the second inning with the bases loaded. IT S THAT TIME: This series will be the only time West Virginia will face the 2007 Heisman winner Tim Tebow. The baseball newcomer has been much better at home, batting.271 in his friendly confines compared to.146 away from home. Tebow went hitless (0-10) in his last series against Lakewood, but had an RBI double last night. He has not homered since April 9, his third game of the season. Tebow struck out in eight consecutive games dating back to May 6, but ended that streak Friday without recording an out on strikes. He has struck out in 22 of 33 professional games. THE LONG ROAD CONTINUES: Starting this past Thursday, West Virginia plays 14 of their next 18 games on the road. The Power started a seven-game swing to Columbia and Augusta on Thursday, return home for four on May 25 and then travel to Charleston and Rome beginning on Memorial Day. West Virginia is 11-5 on the road this season after last night s victory. POWER POINTS: Clark Eagan has five RBI on three hits this series, two singles and a home run...
