May 14-16, 2018 INDIANA BACK IN NCAA REGIONAL After a four year hiatus, Indiana head coach Mike Mayer returns to postseason play in 2017-18 with Jake Brown (Carmel, Ind.) competing as an individual at the Bryan Regional in Bryan, Texas. The regional is hosted by Texas A&M and will be played at Traditions Club from May 14-16. Prior to Brown advancing to the Bryan Regional, the last time Indiana was represented in NCAA postseason play was 2013, when the Hoosiers advanced to the Greensboro Regional as a team. MAYER, HOOSIERS NO STRANGERS TO NCAA POSTSEASON Indiana head coach Mike Mayer is in his 20th season as the head coach of the Hoosiers and he is no stranger to NCAA Regional play. After taking over the reigns of the program for the 1998-99 season, he was able to rebuild the program and get it going in the right direction. That direction officially changed during the 2003-04 season when the Hoosiers advanced to the NCAA Central Regional. That regional appearance marked a run of nine appearances in regional play over the next 10 years, highlighted by an appearance in the NCAA Championship in 2008. All totaled, Mayer has had a player or team in the postseason in 12 of his 20 years as head coach at Indiana. SCHEDULE & RESULTS RECENT IU INDIVIDUALS IN NCAA POSTSEASON The last time Indiana sent an individual to an NCAA postseason was in 2007, when Jorge Campillo qualified For the NCAA Central Regional during his junior year. He went on to compete at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois and finished tied for 72nd (235; 82-76-77). And prior to Campillo, it was Jeff Overton going to the NCAA Regional in Manhattan, Kansas in 2003. He finished tied for 38th with a score of 218 (71-73- 74). BROWN BELONGS From the start of his career, redshirt junior Jake Brown has showed the potential to be a top collegiate golfer in the Big Ten. His progress has been steady from the day he stepped on campus and decided to take a redshirt year during the 2014-15 season. He came back to play every round of every tournament as a redshirt freshman in 2015-16 and led Indiana with a 74.29 scoring average and his first collegiate win at the Hoosier Invitational. As a redshirt sophomore, his scoring average was nearly identical to the season prior (74.38) but he once again played every round of every tournament and had two Top 10 finishes. Coming into the 2017-18 season, Brown knew he was going to be looked upon to be the No. 1 guy on the team. He played every tournament but posted a scoring average of 72.59, which ranks as the 11th-best single-season average in IU history. JAKE BROWN 5-10 // REDSHIRT JUNIOR CARMEL, INDIANA 2017-18 (Redshirt Junior) Has played every round of every tournament this season... enters NCAA Bryan Regional play with a scoring average of 72.59, which ranks as the 11th-best single-season scoring average in IU history... finished in the Top 10 on four occasions, with three of those also being Top 5 finishes... best 18-hole score of the year was a 66 in the second round at Irish Creek... best finish of the year was the T2nd at Crooked Stick and the second place finish at Irish Creek... earned fourth place at the Boilermaker Invitational when the tournament was shortened to 36-holes... went 2-1-1 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship with wins over Charlie Huntzinger (Penn St.) and Toks Pedro (Rutgers) and also havled a match with Nick Hardy (Illinois) 2016-17 (Redshirt Sophomore) Played in all 32 stroke play rounds and posted a scoring average of 74.38, which ranked second on the team... tied for the team lead with two Top 10 finishes... recorded seven rounds at par or better on the season... posted a round of 69 on three occasions - at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, Boilermaker Invitational and the Big Ten Championship... finished the year with a T10 finish at the Big Ten Championship (79-69-73; 212)... best individual finish of the year was a T8 (72-71-70) at the Hoosier Invitational... named Academic All-Big Ten. 2015-16 (Redshirt Freshman) Played in every tournament during the year (31 stroke play rounds, four match play rounds)... led the Hoosiers with a 74.29 scoring average, which is the fifth-best scoring average by a freshman in IU history... registered 19 rounds of 75 or better... logged two Top 5 finishes - including co-medalist honors at the Hoosier Invitational... also carded two Top 10 finishes and three Top 25 finishes... posted a 62 in the final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona, on March 1, which is the second-best single-round score in program history (61 by Jeff Overton in 2004)... began his collegiate career with back-to-back T50 finishes at the Northern Intercollegiate and Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational... opened the Windon Memorial with a 71 on his way to fnishing T17 with a total score of 213 (71-76-77)... closed with a 62 in the final round to go with a 66 in the first round at the Loyola Intercollegiate to finish in second place with a score of 202 (66-74-62)... tied for medalist honors at the Hoosier Invitational with a two-round score of 142 (70-72)... finished tied for 36th at the Big Ten Championship at Victoria National with a score of 225 (72-73-80)... earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. 2014-15 (Freshman) Redshirt Prep/Personal Earned all-state recognition in 2014 after a fifth place finish at the IHSAA State Finals (145, +1)... finished 14th individually at the 2013 IHSAA State golf tournament with a score of even par... tied for third in the regional tournament, also coming in at even par... has twice been named to the all-county team... ranked No. 116 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard and No. 3 in the state of Indiana... came in T53 at the Western Junior Amateur tournament... was a quarterfinalist in the boys state match play tournament... posted a third place finish in the 2012 boys state medal play tournament... is a three-time academic all-state honoree... was the president of the Carmel High School Dance Marathon, the largest high school dance marathon in the country... is the son of Kathy and Jim Brown... has three brothers - Jimmy, Joey and Johnny... majoring in Business.
