Rita s Italian Ice LN Student-Athletes of the Week Rita s is located at 8910 East 96 th Street, just north of the intersection of 96 th and Sargent Road. Trinity Brady, Girls Basketball & Jared Hankins, Boys Basketball Brady, a sophomore, and Hankins, a junior, each led the Wildcat basketball teams to wins at the Manual Extravaganza over the Winter Break. Both were named MVP of their respective games. The girls team beat Chicago Marshall 62-45 while the boys took down #1 3A Evansville Bosse, 70-66.

Cheerleading: The cheer team is always ready to support our Cats! Thanks to the team for always being there to support our team, home or away. They traveled in the cold to Roncalli, Manual, Homestead, Cathedral, and Warren to provide support for the boys and girls basketball teams throughout winter break. Great job, Cats! Girls Basketball: The #7 Wildcats (15-4, 2-2 MIC) went 4-2 over the break, beating Warren Central (39-35), Roncalli (50-41), Chicago Marshall (62-45) at the Manual Extravaganza, and Franklin Central (75-49). Trinity Brady was named MVP of the game during the Manual Extravaganza game. The Wildcats were the only Indiana team to beat an out The first week of January was tough for the Cats, as they went on the road to play #5 Homestead, losing a tough game, 44-38. The team also hosted #3 Pike at home, losing a hard fought game 65-59. The Cats will go on the road to take on MIC and district rival Lawrence Central (2-13, 0-4 MIC) on Thursday. JV will start at 6:00pm with the varsity to follow.

Boys Basketball: The 16 th ranked Wildcats (7-3, 0-2 MIC) had a very difficult winter break, taking on three state ranked opponents and going 2-1 against these teams. Lawrence North started the break with a bang, beating #10 (#1 3A) Evansville Bosse at the Manual Extravaganza, 70-66. Jared Hankins was named MVP and was also recognized at halftime as an Academic Champion in the event. The Cats then traveled to #11 Indianapolis Cathedral, coming back from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Irish, 58-52. Finally, the team traveled to Warren Central for a MIC match-up this past Friday, losing to the #3 Warriors, 63-46. The Wildcats will be glad to get back home for a game, as they host Southport in the first round of the Marion County tournament on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Pictures by Jared Rigdon, LN Northstar.

Boys/Girls Swimming: The boys and girls swimming teams participated in the MIC championships at Carmel over the weekend. The boys team placed 4 th overall and the girls team finished in 5 th place. Bennett Vail led the boys team with a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle and 4 th place finish in the 200 freestyle. Others earning top 8 finishes included Jacob Penrose, 3 rd in the 500 free and 6 th in the 200 freestyle; Joe Grese, 5 th in the 200 IM and 6 th in the 100 breaststroke; Tyler Birkla, 5 th in the 100 butterfly and 7 th in the 200 IM; and Jack Dempsey, 8 th in the 500 free. For the girls, Brooke Atkins had two top 8 finishes. She placed 4 th in the 100 backstroke and 7 th in the 200 IM. Both teams will be in action on Tuesday at Warren Central and again on Thursday, traveling to Lawrence Central to take on the Bears. Both meets will start at 5:30pm.

Wrestling: The LN wrestlers (14-8) braved the cold and wintery weather to travel to Mishawaka for the very competitive Al Smith Invitational. The team was led by Dheontae Unseld, who earned a podium finish at 152 lbs. The also competed at the Columbus East Invite, going 4-1 on the day. The team beat Southridge, Evansville Reitz, Oldham (Kentucky), and Greenwood. Their only loss of the day was to Columbus East. Leading the way for the Cats were Deon Pettiford, going 5-0 at 195 lbs, and Deacon Pettiford, who went 4-1 at 132 lbs. Pictures courtesy of Coach Stewart and Antoinette Welch. The JV team will travel to North Central on Wednesday for a triple dual, while the varsity wrestlers will be in action on Saturday for the MIC championships at Warren Central.
