The really, really important things... Bibs & transponders Individuals and teams will be issued ONE multisport bib and ONE timing transponder which must be worn throughout the event. The bib must be visible at all times and worn on top of any buoyancy vests or hydration packs & the timing transponder must be placed on the ankle to ensure you are correctly timed. IMPORTANT: Teams must transfer their bib & transponder from one team mate to the next inside each transition area. Please ensure the exchange is beyond where the competitor who has just completed a stage has gone over the timing mats (the timing mats and entrance to each transition will be under a Jamis tent). Be careful to secure the transponder well before & during the race. Losing your transponder during the race will cost you $50, cause incorrect times to be recorded for your team and may mean we send emergency response teams out to look for you. Please also ensure your bib and timing transponder are returned to us at the end of the race. If you withdraw from the event at any time please ensure you return your bib and transponder to a transition manager or the timing team at the finish. Failure to return the transponder will result in a $50 replacement fee. Stickers You will receive ONE kayak sticker, ONE road bike sticker and ONE mountain bike sticker with your race number on it. These are to be placed on your kayak (front right of your kayak) & bikes (position on seat post) so that they can be identified for collection if required. Wristbands You can also collect support crew wristbands at pre-race registration (and write your race number on them) to allow them easy access to the transition areas to collect your gear. All care and no responsibility is taken with your gear at transitions and while we have marshals on-site, we cannot guarantee the security of your gear. Wristbands help our marshals to know your support crew are legitimate and without one, they may be stopped from collecting your gear. RECYCLING LANDFILL COMPOST Please use the recycling and waste bins provided & pay attention to which bin you use. We separate our waste streams to minimise waste to landfill & it s not so fun when you have to pick banana skins and sticky squeezy wrappers out of the recycling bin just because someone else was too lazy to check!

Support Crews Please ensure you ve got a game plan for the day and you ve got your wristband on to help marshals to see you re allowed in transition areas. The Kaimai Classic is a damn fun event so please think twice before having a huge rant at an event marshal or generally throwing your toys just because you re a bit stressed!! There are some tight timeframes to get to some transition areas but if you re prepared for the day, are nice and patient and remember that just like the weather - random things can happen at any time, you ll sail through your day & love it! It s against the rules to... Participants are not allowed to be followed or offered any help at any stage of the event. Support crew may not assist any competitor at any transition except at T2 where support crew may work with the event staff on site as required to carry kayaks down to the river edge. You may not assist your participant in and/ or out of their kayak. Tip for newbies... If your support crew is unfamiliar with the area or if you re a newbie to the Earthwise Kaimai Classic we recommend dropping your kayak and your road bike off to the transition areas on the morning of the event prior to heading to the start line rather than trying to race ahead to each transition as you go (transition open times are on the cover). Housekeeping Toilets You re bound to want one at some point so here s where they will be: START/ T1 RUN to MTB T2 MTB to KAYAK T3 KAYAK to ROAD CYCLE T4 ROAD CYCLE to RUN / FINISH Coffee Fix Inca Fe Fairtrade Organic Coffee will be at McLaren Falls Park. STOP Take away coffee cups are landfill... But you can recycle the lid!

Courses Course maps are available online to view & download. This book is to help you on the day and we figured you won t have your nose in a book to find your way. Courses will be marked with a combination of tape, arrows and other signage. Sections of the course change from year to year (and even in event week!) and may differ from the maps so ALWAYS FOLLOW THE COURSE MARKINGS. 5km SAUCONY Off-Road Run (average time 25-30mins). 17km BICYCLE BUSINESS Mountain Bike in association with JAMIS (average time 45-50mins). 11km WAIMARINO ADVENTURE PARK Kayak (average time 55-60mins). 26km BICYCLE BUSINESS Road Cycle in association with JAMIS (average time 55-60mins). 11km SMITHS SPORT SHOES Run (average time 60-65mins). Course thank-yous Many thanks to Gary, Warren and Murray for ensuring we have a pristine McLaren Falls Park to play in. Geoff, Harold, Warren and Dennis for being our very supportive private land owners of the MTB course. The Tuhakaraina Land Trust, the Te Puna Rugby Club along with the Lochhead, Grammer, Newlands and Smith families for making things tick at Te Puna. Also to Trust Power, Western Bay of Plenty Council, Environment Bay of Plenty and Tauranga City Council. We have an amazing event course thanks to all of you!

Directions to Start Line The event starts inside McLaren Falls Park and is the same start area as used in previous years. FROM TAURANGA / MT MAUNGANUI: Connect to SH29 heading towards the Kaimai Ranges. Approx 10km after passing through Tauriko turn left onto McLaren Falls Road. Shortly after going over the bridge DO NOT turn right into the main park entry, instead continue up the road for a further 2km and turn right into the back park entrance (Lower Mangapapa Road). Event signage will begin on this corner to direct you into the park to the event parking area. Allow 30 minutes from Tauranga City and up to 40 minutes from Mount Maunganui. DO NOT ENTER Main Park Entrance From Tauranga Follow McLaren Falls Rd Turn right into back park entrance (Lower Mangapapa Road) Start Info START TIMES: Individuals 8.00am Teams 9.00am We recommend arriving at the start line NO LATER THAN 30 MINS prior to your start time. Allow for parking congestion and to rack your bike. On-the-day registration and entries will be inside the hostel in the start area. Here you must also notify the registration team of any last minute team changes. On-the-day registration is open between the following times only: Individuals 7.00 7.30am Teams 8.00 8.30am The start and transition area opens at 6.45am. There is no aid station on course - only at the transition area. This is a very tough leg so please start well hydrated and / or carry a hydration pack. Teams will only see their runner when he / she has approx 300m to go (near the hostel). 17km BICYCLE BUSINESS MTB in association with JAMIS Info Don t forget to place your bike sticker (on your seat post) prior to race start. No helmet - no ride. Helmets must be of a standard recognised by NZ Transport Agency and must on your head, securely fastened prior to riding and throughout the ride until your bike has been racked at T2. You must wheel your bike to the designated mount area in transition. ALL ROADS ARE OPEN. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU OWN ACTIONS ON THE COURSE - DO NOT EXPECT ANY VEHICLES TO GIVE WAY TO YOU EVEN ON INTERNAL PARK ROADS. ALL NORMAL ROAD RULES APPLY. Participants must make repairs to their own cycles. No support crew assistance is allowed. As the MTB leg can be completed reasonably quickly it is recommended that SUPPORT CREW LEAVE STRAIGHT AWAY once your competitor/team member has started the MTB.

Driving Directions McLaren Falls Park to T2 Exit the same way you came in and turn left onto McLaren Falls Road. Please drive slowly along McLaren Falls Road. EXPECT A HIDDEN QUEUE OF TRAFFIC AROUND THE CORNERS. The mountain bike course crosses McLaren Falls Road and traffic will be stopped to allow the safe crossing of bikes across McLaren Falls Road. At the intersections with SH29, turn right. The road shoulder entrance gate to T2 is approx 4km from here on SH29. Once you pass Ruahihi Road, T2 is just over 1 km away. Please slow down - the turn into the transition area is extremely tight. Once off the highway please follow all marshals directions. Due to recent flooding in the parking area at T2, we encourage you to consider dropping your kayak here before race start to ease congestion in the reduced capacity area. Your kayak course finishes at the boat ramp under Wairoa Bridge. Marshals will assist you from your kayak. No support crew will be able to assist participants out of their kayaks.

Driving Directions T2 to T3 Exit the transition area and head left on SH29 for approx 5km. After passing through Tauriko head left onto Cambridge Road.
