The Panthers and Salukis will meet at 7 p.m. on Friday at Davies Gym in Carbondale, Ill. The Panthers will meet up with the Purple Aces at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Carson Center in Evansville, Ind. UNI swept the weekly MVC awards with Kayla Haneline earning MVC Player of the Week honors and Amie Held tallying MVC Defensive Player of the Week status. UNI clinched a spot in the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with its 3-1 win over Wichita State on Saturday night. UNI, Illinois State and Missouri State are the first three teams to qualify for the event that will take place Nov. 27-29 in the McLeod Center. UNI has qualified in 30 consecutive seasons for the Gateway/MVC Tournament. UNI s win on Saturday night vs. Wichita State ensured the Panthers their 36th consecutive non-losing season. The Panthers are also ensured to have their 30th straight winning season by notching their 16th win against the Shockers. THIS WEEK S ACTION UNI (16-8 overall, 10-2 MVC) will hit the road for a pair of Missouri Valley Conference matches at Southern Illinois (12-13 overall, 6-7 MVC) and at Evansville (8-17 overall, 4-9 MVC). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz is back for his third season as the play-by-play voice of Panther volleyball. ALL-TIME SERIES The Panthers own a 51-10 lead in the all-time series vs. the Southern Illinois Salukis. UNI avenged three losses to SIU last season with a 3-0 sweep of the Salukis in the McLeod Center on Oct. 11. UNI is 42-1 all-time vs. Evansville in the all-time series between the two schools. Evansville s lone win the series came on Nov. 1, 2008, when the Purple Aces scored a 3-0 win over the Panthers in Evansville, Ind. HANELINE, HELD SWEEP MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS Kayla Haneline and Amie Held swept the Missouri Valley Conference s weekly volleyball honors (Nov. 3). Haneline (Plattsmouth, Neb.) was named the MVC Player of the Week for her play in two wins over Missouri State and Wichita State. Haneline boasted a.448 hitting percentage with a teamhigh 30 kills in leading UNI to a pair of 3-1 wins over Missouri State and Wichita State. Haneline powered the UNI offense with a career-high tying 17 kills (.536 hitting percentage) in a home victory over Missouri State on Friday. Haneline also added four digs and two blocks assists against the Bears. Haneline tallied 13 kills (.367 hitting percentage) and posted three blocks assists in Saturday s victory over Wichita State. Held (Festus, Mo.) earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead UNI to victories over Missouri State and Wichita State. Held returned to the 3 UNI VOLLEYBALL lineup after missing four weeks with an injury to post a season-high tying 28 digs in a 3-1 win over Missouri State. Held then tallied 20 digs in a 3-1 win over Wichita State on Saturday night. Held notched a service ace in each match this past weekend. Held recorded two assists against Missouri State and five assists vs. Wichita State. Held has notched eight 20 or more dig matches this season. MAKING THE FIELD UNI clinched a spot in the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with its 3-1 win over Wichita State (Nov. 1). UNI, Illinois State and Missouri State are the first three teams to qualify for the event that will take place Nov. 27-29 in the McLeod Center. The top six qualify for the MVC Tournament. TOP-NOTCH EFFORTS Senior Eryca Hingtgen tied a career-high with 20 kills in UNI s 3-1 win over Wichita State (Nov. 1). Junior Autumn Alitz put up a career-high 14 kills in UNI s 3-1 triumph over Missouri State (Oct. 31). Sophomore Kayla Haneline tied her career-high with 17 kills against the Missouri State Bears (Oct. 31). MVC S BEST UNI leads the Missouri Valley Conference in digs/set (17.42), kills/set (13.76), assists/set (12.69) and team attacks/set (37.46). LATEST RPI RANKING UNI is ranked No. 64 in the NCAA s latest RPI rankings for the 2014 season. UNI trails only Nebraska, Hawai i, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois in home attendance. The Panthers consistently have ranked among the national leaders in home attendance, including ranking No. 8 in the nation in 2013 with an MVC single-season record average of 3,267 per match..300 OR BETTER UNI recorded a.300 or better hitting percentage for the fifth time this season in a 3-0 win over Drake. It s also the second time this season that the Panthers have hit.300 or better against Drake. UNI had a.333 hitting percentage in the Knapp Center on Sept. 27, and then posted a.300 hitting percentage this past Saturday against the Bulldogs in the McLeod Center. HANELINE STEPS UP Sophomore Kayla Haneline has stepped up her hitting percentage since the start of Missouri Valley Conference play. On the season, Haneline has a.298 hitting percentage. Through 12 MVC matches, Haneline has a.372 hitting percentage in league matches, which ranks No. 4 among the league leaders in MVC matches only. Haneline is UNI s top blocker on the season as well with 73 total blocks. Haneline has tallied 38 of her blocks in MVC play. THIS IS NOT NORMAL The Panthers suffered a rare two-loss weekend in MVC play with setbacks at Illinois State on Friday and at Indiana

State on Saturday. UNI had not lost both matches on a weekend road trip since Oct. 17-18, 2008, when the Panthers fell at Wichita State and Missouri State. It is only the third time in head coach Bobbi Petersen s coaching career that the Panthers lost both MVC road matches in the same weekend. RARE LOSSES FOR PANTHERS UNI saw a pair of long winning streaks snapped this past weekend with a pair of setbacks at Illinois State and Indiana State. UNI had defeated Illinois State 16 straight times before the Redbirds scored a 3-1 win (Oct. 17). UNI had scored 33 straight wins over Indiana State prior to the Sycamores 3-1 victory over the Panthers (Oct. 18). CALDWELL NAMED MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Junior setter Kinsey Caldwell was named the Missouri Valley Conference s volleyball player of the week (Oct. 13). Caldwell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock HS/UNLV) averaged 12.50 assists and 3.83 digs per set in leading UNI to a pair of league victories over Evansville and Southern Illinois. Caldwell dished out 38 assists in a 3-0 win over the Purple Aces. Caldwell added her seventh double-double of the season against SIU with 37 assists and 17 digs. Caldwell also added a block assist and service ace against the Salukis. PANTHERS CAPTURE MILESTONE WIN UNI volleyball recorded the program s 1,000th win in a 3-0 victory over Southern Illinois (Oct. 13) in the McLeod Center. UNI initiated volleyball in 1974 and Panthers have an overall record of 1,002-327-22 as they enter play this week vs. Missouri State and Wichita State. 500 KILLS FOR HINGTGEN Senior Eryca Hingtgen surpassed the 500-kill mark in her Panther career during a sweep of Southern Illinois (Oct. 11). Hingtgen has posted 559 kills during her collegiate career. HINGTGEN DOUBLES UP Senior Eryca Hingtgen led the Panthers with 4.50 digs/set in helping UNI to a pair of league sweeps of Evansville and 4 UNI VOLLEYBALL Southern Illinois. Hingtgen recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs against Evansville (Oct. 10). Hingtgen added 13 digs and two solo blocks in a 3-0 sweep of the SIU Salukis (Oct. 11). Hingtgen also tied a career-high with three assists in both victories. CAREER-BEST FOR HINGTGEN Senior Eryca Hingtgen tallied a teambest 32 kills and contributed 20 digs as the Panthers recorded two road wins at Wichita State and Missouri State. Hingtgen collected a career-high 20 kills in leading UNI to a five-set win at Missouri State (Oct. 4). Hingtgen also added 12 digs, three assists, two solo blocks and a pair of service aces against the Bears. Hingtgen scored 12 kills in a four-set win at Wichita State (Oct. 3). SINNOTT STEPS UP TO LIBERO Sophomore Ashlee Sinnott set a pair of career highs in each victory (Wichita State and Missouri State) as she served as UNI s libero for the first two times of her career. Sinnott posted 18 digs in UNI s 3-1 win at Wichita State (Oct. 3) Sinnott then posted 20 digs in leading UNI to a five-set win at Missouri State (Oct. 4). Sinnott had two aces vs. WSU and one vs. MSU. BOLTON SEES EXTENSIVE ACTION Freshman Delaney Bolton saw her first extensive action of her collegiate career in helping UNI to a pair of league wins at Wichita State and Missouri State. Bolton recorded a career-high 11 digs at Wichita State (Oct. 3). Bolton added nine digs and her first collegiate service ace in UNI s five-set win at Missouri State (Oct. 4). Bolton had played in one set prior to this weekend s action - a single set at Notre Dame (Sept. 13). UNI, MSU TIDBITS With its five-set victory at Missouri State (Oct. 4), UNI has won five-set matches against Missouri State in three of the last four years (2011, 2013, 2014). Overall, UNI has won 10 of its last 11 matches vs. Missouri State. UNI has won five of its last six matches vs. MSU in Springfield. CONTINUED SUCCESS AT WSU With its 3-1 win at Wichita State (Oct. 3), UNI has won 12 of its last 14 matches at Koch Arena. In fact, UNI has won the last six matches in a row at Wichita State. CAN YOU DIG IT? UNI posted a season-best 97 digs against Iowa State (Sept. 24). UNI also posted 90 digs in a four-set win over Bradley (Sept. 20). ALITZ POWERS UNI OFFENSE Sophomore middle hitter Autumn Alitz (Mason City, Iowa) posted a.571 hitting percentage with a team-high 22 kills in helping UNI to a 3-0 win over Drake and a five-set loss to Iowa State. For the week, Alitz took 35 attacks and had only two errors. Alitz set a pair of career-highs against Iowa State (Sept. 24) with 12 kills and seven blocks. Alitz recorded a.524 hitting percentage against Iowa State. Alitz followed that up with 10 kills and a.543 hitting percentage in a sweep of the Drake Bulldogs (Sept. 27). CALDWELL GETS DEFENSIVE Junior setter Kinsey Caldwell recorded a career-high 28 digs in UNI s five-set match vs. Iowa State (Sept. 24). Caldwell averaged 4.23 digs/set for the week and led the Panthers with 34 digs in the two matches vs. Iowa State and Drake. She tallied a team-best 88 assists (11.00/set) for the week. Caldwell added six kills and a block assist vs. Drake (Sept. 27). HELD NAMED MVC DEFENSIVE POW Sophomore libero Amie Held was named the Missouri Valley Conference s volleyball defensive player of the week (Sept. 22) for her play against Loyola and Bradley. Held registered a season-high 28 digs in leading UNI to a 3-1 win over Bradley on Saturday. Held posted 17 digs in Friday s 3-0 win over Loyola. Held was credited with a team-best 45 digs (6.43 digs/set) in the two matches over the weekend. It marks the first time Held has earned the MVC defensive player of the week honor. Held won the MVC freshman of the week award twice as a freshman.

RACKING UP THE ACCOLADES The UNI Panthers captured the team title at the 2014 Shamrock Invitational with victories over Northeastern (3-0), TCU (3-0) and Notre Dame (3-1). UNI sophomore Lindsey Schulz was named the Tournament MVP. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Kayla Haneline and Eryca Hingtgen. HELD EARNS ALL-TOURNEY HONORS AT COMMONWEALTH CLASSIC Sophomore Amie Held was named to the Commonwealth Classic All-Tournament team for her performance against No. 16-ranked Kentucky, former MVC foe Creighton and No. 6-ranked USC. Held tallied 64 digs and averaged 5.33 digs/set. She began the tournament with 17 digs against No. 16-ranked Kentucky. Held tallied a season-high 25 digs in a five-set loss to Creighton. Held then posted 22 digs in a three-set loss to No. 6-ranked Kentucky. RARE SWEEP OF THE PANTHERS No. 6-ranked USC was able to score a 3-0 sweep of the UNI Panthers but it wasn t easy. USC scored the set wins by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 27-25. It marked the first sweep of UNI since No. 5 Nebraska posted a 3-0 victory over the Panthers in the 2012 NCAA Tournament (Nov. 30, 2012). PUDWILL NAMED MVC PLAYER OF WEEK UNI sophomore outside hitter Leigh Pudwill was named the Missouri Valley Conference s women s volleyball player of the week (Sept. 2). Pudwill (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) was named to the Marcia E. Hamilton All-Tournament team as she helped lead UNI to a 2-1 mark in the opening weekend of play. Pudwill averaged 3.85 kills per set in tallying a team-best 50 kills in the three matches. Pudwill hit. 346 with 13 kills vs. Alabama. She then upped her hitting percentage to.429 with a career-high 19 kills in a 3-2 win over Saint Louis. Pudwill finished off her weekend hitting.382 with 18 kills in a 3-1 win vs. Southeast Missouri State. Pudwill also added five blocks assists in the three matches. FEELS LIKE A REPLAY For the second straight year, UNI secured a five-set road win against Saint Louis. Last season, the Panthers topped the 5 UNI VOLLEYBALL Billikens in five sets (29-31, 25-19, 33-31, 18-25, 16-14). This time around UNI also rallied after dropping the first set for its first five-set road victory since the Sept. 13, 2013 match at Saint Louis. UNI scored a 24-26, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18, 15-8 win this weekend over Saint Louis. The Panthers used an 8-0 run in set No.5 to take control of the match. BLOCK PARTY UNI set a pair of Chaifetz Arena records vs. Saint Louis (Aug. 29) with 15 total blocks and 26 block assists in the five-set victory. ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM IN ST. LOUIS Sophomores Leigh Pudwill and Kinsey Caldwell earned spots on the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic All-Tournament team. Pudwill led the Panthers with 50 kills (3.85 kills/set), while Caldwell led UNI with 129 assists (9.92 assists/set). NINE CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF APR RECOGNITION, PERFECTION For the past nine years the NCAA has recognized teams in the top-10 percent of the Academic Progress Report and the UNI volleyball team has been on the list all nine years. In fact, the UNI volleyball team has had a perfect score of 1,000 in each of the nine years. AMONG ELITE COMPANY The Panthers rank No. 6 all-time in NCAA Division I winning percentage (.786). UNI trails only Penn State (.864), Hawaii (.856), Nebraska (.843), Florida (.829) and Stanford (.809) in NCAA Division I winning percentage totals. TWO-FIRST PLACE VOTES The Panthers earned two first-place votes in the preseason Missouri Valley Conference coaches poll. UNI is projected to finish second behind Wichita State. UNI won the regular season title in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013. 18 NCAA APPEARANCES In its 18 trips to the NCAA tournament, UNI has posted 14 wins, advancing to at least the second round 11 times. UNI has advanced as far as the NCAA s Sweet 16 three times since 1999. In 2002, the Panthers went into the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed in the East Region. 40 YEARS OF UNI VOLLEYBALL The University of Northern Iowa women s volleyball team is celebrating 40 years of competition in the 2014 season. The Panthers first fielded a squad in 1974.
