February 2012 Voice of the Swan My goodness did the 2017 season fly by fast! Lets recap some of the improvements that took place last year. Golf Maintenance got new irrigation boxes, began bunker restoration and acquired 3 new utility vehicles. Tennis court drainage was improved and Pickleball Court lines were added. The swimming pool underwent a facelift as well as added weekend delivery service and frequent BevCart visits. Food and beverage completed another edition of our Concert Series, added a Convenience To-Go Menu and the Wine & Pub Clubs. Lastly, golf completed another solid tournament schedule and we just recently enhanced the Pro Shop restrooms. Now moving on to 2018, work is underway upgrading the Midway restrooms as well as the Ladies Locker room. The Mens Locker room will follow once the above is complete, Yes, Ladies First. Bunker restoration is ongoing, next up hole 13 and also select areas will undergo cart path improvements and/or replacement. The Veranda lighting will be upgraded before summer as well as some replacement of Outdoor furniture and umbrellas. The team building and recruitment process is underway for both Golf and Clubhouse positions. The existing players have done an outstanding job and will continue to be an integral part of our future success. I can only hope to find candidates whose commitment to Swan Point and enthusiasm for their positions equal that of our present team members. I cannot tell you how many members and guests alike commented on the Holiday Spirit throughout the clubhouse this year. I would like to thank the Swan Point Social Club for all they did in decorating the clubhouse with such holiday cheer. I would like to close by thanking everyone for their support this season and know that we look forward to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018 for ALL! John Upon arriving earlier this year, Mr's. Mayer and Aanestad respectively were among the first to greet and welcome me to Swan Point. Each and every time I saw Mr. Aanestad he would greet me with a smile and encouraging words. While my time with Jim was short, he was among the most positive and supportive members I have enjoyed the pleasure of serving. When talking to Mr. Mayer over the holidays, he shared with me that the community as whole had other friends that had left us. Thoughts and prayers with all who lost loved ones this year. Mr. Mayer was kind enough to share his thoughts... In Celebrating Life, 2017 was not a kind year for our Swan Point Community. We lost so many great friends and family members who contributed mightily to the quality of life of our neighborhood. To single out one would be an injustice to all so this is to acknowledge the contributions of all and just say thank you for having the privilege of sharing their lives. Now the hard job of helping those who were left behind and making sure that the same zest for life we all want is inclusive of our entire community. It is an overused statement they will be missed but it is also an all true statement. Let us take time to search out family and friends of the families that are grieving and make sure that we all celebrate the lives we all share that makes this Swan Point family so special.keep Smiling 1 Voice of the Swan January 2018
Swan Point Architectural Review Committee Architectural Review Committee The following applications were submitted to the ARC for the month of December NEW CONSTRUCTION AND REQUESTS FOR MODIFI- CATIONS/CHANGES 14855 King Charles Drive - new front door and paint shutters black-approved NON-CRITICAL AREA TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS none ARC REMINDERS : Please make sure you remove your holiday decorations. Exterior decorations need to be taken down within 30 days following the holiday. Once the holiday decorations are down, it is a great time to address any leaves in your yard. Please keep your yard as clear of leaves as possible. A leaf -free yard is a healthy yard. The Architectural Review Committee meets at 10:00 am, at the Clubhouse on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursday of each month. Requests must be received at the SPPOA office by 9:00a.m Christmas Tree Recycling Course Superintendent In the month of December, the grounds crew aerified and seeded the putting green for the winter months. A tarp is used in colder weather when aerifying so the ground temperature is kept above freezing. The process is to keep the temperatures above freezing so the newly seeded green can keep growing throughout the cold months, in hopes of starting spring of 2018 in the right way. The grounds crew will be removing the tarp sometimes if temperatures are consistently 50-60 degrees, so that the air temperatures don t have an adverse effect on the new seedlings. Throughout the winter the grounds crew will continue to work on projects around the course including tree work with the low limbs, and continuing the bunker project. The grounds crew will start the low limbs around the putting green/clubhouse first, and then will proceed to number seven. With the number six fairway bunker project complete, the grounds crew will be moving onto the greens side bunker on the thirteenth hole. The largest challenge this time of year is working with the weather. Hopefully in the months ahead there will be stretches of above freezing temperatures so the grounds crew is able to do all that it hopes to complete! The Swan Point Social Club is asking that all Christmas decorations be taken down by January 5 th. The following places will recycle your tree when you drop it off. Breeze Farm Recycling Center (15950 Cobb Island Rd.) Wednesdays, 11am to 7pm, and Saturdays 8am to 4pm. Charles County Landfill Recycling Center (12305 Billingsley Rd.) Monday through Saturday 7am to 7 pm. Gilbert Run Recycling Center (13140 Charles Street) Wednesdays 11am to 7pm and Saturdays 8am to 4pm. Piney Church Road Mulch Facility (5370 Piney Church Road) Monday through Saturday, 7:30 am to 4 pm. Pisgah Recycling Center (6645 Mason Springs Rd) Monday through Saturday 7am to 7pm. Special Thanks to our Club Champ Erik Koch for his creative logo. 2 Voice of the Swan January 2018
Food and Beverage News Greetings from the Swan Point Food & Beverage Department This week marks the beginning of a great new year for the club. It also marks the third month that I have enjoyed serving as your Food and Beverage Director. In those three months, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many of the wonderful people that make up the Swan Point community AND I truly appreciate the warm welcome you have given me. Thank you. When I first, joined Swan Point, I was told to expect the members to be shy and reserved with their opinions. For the most part, this does seem to be the case. Still, after some gentle coaxing and beer, I managed to bring a few out of their shells (mentioning their names may embarrass Koch, Klotz, Dement, Green etc. so I won t). Somewhat reluctantly they shared their thoughts on ways to improve the club and increase the members enjoyment. As we enter the new year, I want you to know that I have heard your great suggestions and ideas and I am excited about bringing you a club that expresses the Swan Point community and feels warm and welcoming to all of our members.
