ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 26 December 2015 Race 7: Canterbury Classic (Listed) 1200m Echo Gal stable representative Mr M Newnham indicated the stable would continue with the campaign of Echo Gal, however, they will now experiment with a barrier blanket in an endeavour to remedy the tardy barrier manners of the mare RACE 1: All Too Hard @ Vinery Plate 1400m Old North slow to begin. Caesar's Ghost slow to begin. Aldesaar jumped awkwardly. Held up in the early part of the straight and approaching the 200m shifted out across heels to continue into clear running. Perpetual Motion approaching 1200m the gelding, which was overracing, had to be steadied when crowded for room by Over The Air, which was taken in by Old North (J McDonald). J McDonald was reprimanded and told to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside. Kelvinside - raced ungenerously and laid out in the middle stages. RACE 2: TAB More Than Just Winning Plate 1400m Catseye Magic raced greenly under pressure in the straight. Micucci had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and then near the 150m was further hampered when the eventual winner, Miss Sydney, laid out under pressure from that point to the winning post. As a result rider T Berry could not fully test his mount in the run to the finish.
2 Humility approaching the winning post was hampered and taken wider when bumped by Miccuci when that runner was taken out by Miss Sydney. Mean Louise rider J Collett stated the filly was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages and he was of the opinion that there may have been a respiratory issue with the filly when entering the straight and for this reason he desisted from riding his mount out and eased it down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a speedy cut to the off-hind pastern and to be making a mild abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer Mr J Thompson undertook to consult with the owners on the immediate racing future of Mean Louise. The inquiry was adjourned pending that advice. RACE 3: McNally Jones Staff Handicap 1800m Harpoon jumped awkwardly. Crowded and badly unbalanced passing the 150m when it came into contact with the hindquarter of More Than Fabulous after being taken out by Triple Ex. Artistic Beauty jumped awkwardly, shifted out and hampered Maputo Express, which jumped in slightly. For some distance passing the 700m overraced badly and had to be checked away from the heels of Gud Onya and, as a result, was taken wider by its rider, J Collett, who also became unbalanced in the incident. Held up in the early part of the straight and had to be steadied away from the heels of Not A Gypsy, which shifted out slightly. Artistic Beauty was then held up until passing the 200m and was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages and, therefore, not fully tested in the run to the finish. Raitza approaching the 1500m made contact with Calm And Serene for some distance as Raitza held its position one of and Calm And Serene attempted to take up a position closer to the rail. Calm And Serene overraced for some distance in the middle stages. Near the 150m, after initially being taken in and bumped by Not A Gypsy (App. K Jennings), Calm And Serene shifted in further and made contact with More Than Fabulous, which was commencing to improve into a narrow run between Calm And Serene and Harpoon. In the incident Calm And Serene was then taken out by More Than Fabulous and had to be severely checked off the heels of Not A Gypsy when Harpoon was taken out by Triple Ex, which ran out away from Raitza. App. Jennings was reprimanded, whereby the Stewards recognised he had stopped riding and straightened his mount when the tightening commenced. The Stewards further found that Triple Ex shifted out away from Raitza in the incident and then became turned out after contacting the shoulder of Harpoon. More Than Fabulous after attempting a narrow run approaching the 150m between Harpoon and Calm And Serene, had to be checked when crowded for room initially by Calm And Serene and further by Harpoon, which was taken out by Triple Ex. Gud Onya a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on and suffered an abrasion to the outside of the off-hind cannon and to the inside of the offside hock.

Worldly Impact passing the 700m had to be checked away from the heels of Faustus when overracing. Worldly Impact continued to overrace for some distance approaching the home turn. Stravigo when questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding compared with its 9 th placing of 11 at Wyong on 7 December 2015, co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden stated the stable was extremely disappointed with its performance second up that day, as he was of the opinion Stravigo travelled well throughout the run, however, did not let down in the straight. He added subsequent veterinary examinations both on the day and at the stable, including a scope, had not revealed any abnormalities, however, he had added a tongue tie to the gear of the gelding and he attributed this gear to being a factor in its improved performance. Mr Snowden was told that Stravigo would be expected to maintain consistency in its performance now that it had re-established form. Ultimate Shock rider B Avdulla stated that the gelding, which became stirred up in the parade and was reluctant to proceed onto the track from the mounting yard, then overraced and wanted to lay out throughout the early and middle stages. He added it was not his intention to lead, but his mount, in a solid pace, refused to relax throughout and was disappointing when placed under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding abraded its near-hind bumper. Trainer Mr A Cummings stated that Ultimate Shock, which was only having its third race start, did not handle well the race day experience of the Theatre of the Horse and the equine tunnel onto the track. He indicated Ultimate Shock was not suited overracing in the lead and he would look to experiment with a more severe bit and ride the gelding with cover at its next race start. Mr Cummings undertook to report back if there was anything amiss with Ultimate Shock subsequent to the race. RACE 5: Tattersalls Club Cup (Listed) 2400m Quick Strike shifted its near-fore plate in the tie-up stalls and was replated. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Lucky Lucky Lucky fractious in the barriers after being loaded, reared and got its near foreleg upon the barrier partition for a short time. The gelding was inspected behind the barriers by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Approaching the winning post the first time had to be checked when crowded for room between Zatopaz and Jiayuguan, which was taken in by Sir John Hawkwood (B Spriggs), which directed Jiayuguan in. After pleading guilty to a charge of careless riding, B Spriggs' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 5 January 2016 and to expire on Sunday, 10 January 2016, on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his guilty plea and that he had had 730 rides since his last suspension. Zatopaz jumped awkwardly.
4 RACE 6: Schweppes Handicap 1400m He's A Given which was standing awkwardly to the nearside of its barrier, reared on jumping and lost ground. Approaching the 300m had to be steadied and lost its running when crowded for room by Set Piece (T Huet), which shifted to the inside of Drum Roll when not clear of He's A Given. After pleading guilty to a charge of careless riding, T Huet's licence was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 10 January 2016 and to expire on Saturday, 23 January 2016, on which day he may ride. Rider B Avdulla stated it was his intention to be more forward, however, given his tardy start, he felt it was not in the best interests of the gelding to bustle him to take up a forward position. Fira overraced in the middle stages. Istanbul held up in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 200m. RACE 7: McGrath Estate Agents Mile 1600m Miss Denni jumped awkwardly and shortly after crowded at the start. Minh Khai crowded at the start. Shanzam crowded at the start between Minh Khai and Bit Of Cheek and had to be checked. Bit Of Cheek jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start was unbalanced when contacted on the hindquarter by Shanzam. Rider T Angland stated he had to make some use of the mare in the early stages to sit outside the leader, All Cerise. He added that Bit Of Cheek, wearing blinkers for the first time today, was also stirred up prior to the race and he felt these factors, as well as being up in grade, contributed to its disappointing performance. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the off foreleg, mildly distressed and displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr J Thompson was advised he must produce a veterinary clearance for Bit Of Cheek prior to its next start. Piamimi ran out at the start. Like Xena jumped in at the start and hampered Circular. A Hyeronimus reported that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages and near the 800m had to be checked away from the heels of Piamimi.
