HURRICANES STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017-2018 Welcome to the Cricket Tasmania Hurricanes State Championships. Tasmanian cricket continues to take significant steps forward with continued growth in cricket participation and a focus on providing more playing opportunities for developing and talented young cricketers. Through this focus we will ensure that there continues to be new and exciting opportunities for young male players to challenge themselves and build on their cricket experience. Cricket Tasmania is committed to building innovative, progressive and holistic high performance programs with the clear goal of developing young athletes capable of transitioning into state and national programs. Thank you to the NTCA, Launceston & South Launceston Cricket Clubs, their volunteers for hosting all games along with the umpires, coaches, Cricket Tasmania staff and parents for ensuring the success of this competition. Thank you to Kookaburra Sports for their ongoing support of Tasmanian Youth Pathway cricket. I encourage all players to embody the cricketing spirit and for all involved to get along and support Tasmania s future stars. John Hayes Coach Development & Pathway Manager

WELCOME FROM ADAM GRIFFITHS Welcome to Hobart for the Under 15 Hurricanes State Championships. For those participating, congratulations on your selection; it is an honour to represent your respective regions and an achievement to reach this level of competition. The State Championships is a great opportunity to test yourself against players of similar skill. This Carnival provides you with the opportunity to challenge yourself, work as part of a team and most importantly have fun whilst learning from every experience. Gabe Bell is one such example of someone who has used the State Championships as a significant platform in his cricket journey. A current contracted Tasmanian Tigers player, Gabe is constantly pushing himself to be the best that he can and use every opportunity to improve whether that be with bat or ball or in the field. Good luck at the upcoming carnival, and I look forward to watching your development over coming years. Adam Griffith Tasmanian Tigers Head Coach
AMS REPORTING Acknowledgement Of Country All Participants will receive a login to the AMS system and will have access to individual reports 2 weeks after the completion of the carnival. https://ams.cricket.com.au/ logon.aspx? We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders both past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia. This land is to be shared by everyone and the spirits of the palawa people are with us. This land was and always will be Aboriginal land
Pathway Player Reports WHY? The Pathway Player Report has been created for Junior Representative Coaches to provide individual feedback for their players post Championships, providing measures and comment on areas of strength and areas of development of each individual player. Providing players with individual feedback plays a critical part in a junior cricketer s education and development. Typically feedback has been delivered verbally which can lead to inconsistent messaging and at times exclude players. Research tells us players learn in different ways. Providing a second method and option for a coach to utilise is beneficial to a player s ongoing development. The four skill categories of Scoring Runs, Taking Wickets, Leading the Game and Preparing to Perform have been aligned to the Australian Way coaching philosophies built on the philosophy tell them what you want them to do, not how to do it. This applies across multiple attributes a player needs to develop if they are to reach their potential as a cricketer. Reports and resources will be housed within Cricket Australia s Athlete Management System (AMS) in one central location. This will allow Cricket Tasmania to gather information on skill development of players and therefore better support coaches to develop skills. Aligning our messaging throughout Tasmania will help all junior players in their transition through the pathway and into the higher representative programs and teams.
