RAIN MEN--Mother Nature felt it was time to take a break from baseball thus last night s regularly scheduled contest with the Twins was postponed a little under five hours before first pitch...these clubs will make that contest up on Saturday, July 1, with what will now be a split-doubleheader with the regularly scheduled game slated for 1:15 and then the make-up from yesterday slated for 7:35...the makeup game will be televised on FOX Sports Kansas City and the Kelvin Herrera Bobbleheads that were to be given out last night will be delivered prior to the July 1 night game...the Royals incurred a pair of home rainouts last year, May 16 vs. Boston (made up on May 18) and May 26 vs. the White Sox (made up on September 19). FATEFUL EIGHTH LEADS TO EIGHTH--The Royals appeared poised to take advantage of returning to Kauffman Stadium on Friday night, carrying a 4-2 advantage into the eighth inning, but the Twins rallied for a 4-spot in the eighth to take a 6-4 decision and hand Kansas City its eighth straight loss... the drought matches the longest losing streak a season ago (June 2-10), while the 7-15 start is just a game better off than the most recent slow 22-game start when the Royals were 6-16 to begin 2012...as for Friday, Joakim Soria, who had not been scored upon this year, gave up all four eighth inning runs, three of which were earned, with the big blows a bases loaded double by Miguel Sano and 2-run double by Joe Mauer...Mauer s 114 career RBI vs. the Royals are second most by an active player behind only Detroit s Victor Martinez (122)...Ian Kennedy was limited to just 5.1 innings due to a pitch count that reached 100 at the time of his departure...he was solid while on the hill, allowing just two hits and two runs with a walk and six K s...salvador Perez had a home run (#6) and double, while Brandon Moss also went deep (#4). PAYBACK IS A...--Kansas City had dominated play with the Twins during 2016, but have opened 17 losing as many games to Minnesota as the Royals had in all of last season by opening at 0-4...last year s club posted a 15-4 record vs. the Twins, including a 9-1 mark here in Kauffman Stadium, winning the first nine battles before losing the finale in September. HOMESTAND UNDERWAY--Friday night s loss was just the second in the last seven home games for Kansas City as the Royals today play game two of what is now a 9-game homestand...the Royals are now is a stretch in which they will play 14 of its next 18 games here in Kauffman Stadium as the club attempts to dig out of the hole created by this 8-game losing streak...things were a tad better during the initial homestand, though KC dropped the first two games to Oakland, but then rebounded to win five of the last six for a 5-3 opening stay...today wraps up this rain-shortened series with the Twins, then the Chicago White Sox hit town tomorrow night to open a 4-game set...the homestand will conclude with a 3-game series against the newest American League champions from Cleveland starting a week from tomorrow...once the series with the Tribe concludes, Kansas City will make a 4-game jaunt to St. Pete on May 8-11, then return for three against the Orioles and three vs. the Yankees to closeout this stretch. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing righthander compiled a 38-31 during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch. LAST CHANCE FOR APRIL WIN--Hammel entered his first season in Kansas City having won 19 of his last 29 April starts, dating back to 2011...however, he needs a victory today to avoid his first winless April since 2010 with Colorado...his 19 wins in the season s first month since 2011 are still tops in the Majors during that stretch, one more than Felix Hernandez his loss here on April 12 to Oakland was his first in April since 2015 at Pittsburgh, snapping a streak of six straight unbeaten starts in the month...last season with the Cubs, Jason went 3-0 with an 0.75 ERA in four April starts. VS. TWINS--Hammel sees Minnesota for the second time this year, taking a no-decision in his April 6 start at Target Field, which KC dropped, 5-3...he s 2-1 all-time against the Twins, but is looking for his first victory over them since April 8, 2012, when he worked 8.0 innings in a 3-1 triumph as a member of the Orioles...Jason has a 3.98 ERA (19 ER in 43.0 IP) and a.210 opponents average vs. Minnesota in his seven previous starts (eight overall outings).
