Ian Kennedy allowed only four hits, but five runs scored over his 6.0 innings while he fanned eight in going winless for a 13th consecutive start and falling to 1-7 on the year...kc tried to rally from an early 5-0 deficit, scoring a pair of runs in the third and another in the fourth, but then a double play grounder ended a bases loaded threat in the fifth...the Royals out-hit the Rangers, 9-8, with every member of the starting lineup picking up one hit, with newbies Rosell Herrera and Adalberto Mondesi collecting the only extra-base knocks with a triple and double, respectively. ROYALS DEAL KELVIN FOR THREE--Prior to last night s game, the Royals acquired minor league infielder Kelvin Gutierrez, outfielder Blake Perkins and pitcher Yohanse Morel from the Washington Nationals, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kelvin Herrera...Gutierrez will be optioned to Northwest Arkansas (AA), Perkins will be assigned to Wilmington (A) and Morel will join the Surprise Royals (Rookie)... JUNE SWOON CONTINUES--For the first time in 16 games this month, the Royals out-hit their opponent collecting nine hits to the Rangers eight in last night s defeat...the last time KC out-hit its opposition was in the May finale vs. Minnesota in an 11-8 victory...kansas City s offensive numbers for June remain dismal, with the Royals scoring just 35 runs for a 2.2 per game average while posting a 2-14 record...the club is now hitting.189 in June (97-for-514), eclipsing the doubledigit hit mark once this month on June 4 in Anaheim with 12 in a 9-6 defeat...hitting with runners in scoring position has been the biggest culprit, with KC going 9-for-48 in its last nine games (.188) while posting a 1-9 mark...the Royals are batting.198 (18-for-91) with runners in scoring position during June...for the season, the club s.216 average in scoring situations has dropped to last in the Majors.
