All-Star Team, today play the final contest of a three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds the teams will wear replicas of their 1916 uniforms to celebrate the Cubs first-ever game at Wrigley Field (then Weeghman Park), April 20, 1916 against the Reds the Cubs are 14-9 all-time when wearing some type of throwback uniform. The Cubs have won 10 of their first 12 against the Reds this season Chicago has outscored Cincinnati, 102-45, this year while hitting.285 (128-for-449) with 31 homers while also posting a 3.42 ERA (43 ER/113.0 IP). The Cubs are just the second team in major league history to field the starting infield, joining the 1963 St. Louis Cardinals (1B Bill White, 2B Julian Javier, SS Dick Groat, 3B Ken Boyer). Chicago has never had five players named to start the All-Star Game and are the first team to do so since the 1985 San Diego Padres. AND WARREN MAKES SIX: Adam Warren today toes the rubber for Chicago, becoming just the sixth pitcher to make a start for the Cubs this season this is the fourth-latest (game No. 84) the franchise has used a sixth starting pitcher in 2003, Chicago used a sixth starter for the first time in game no. 99 that was the latest the team hadn t used a sixth starter since way back in 1891 (99th game) and 1892 (102nd game), the final two years prior to the mound being moved to 60-feet, six-inches thanks to Ed Hartig. ABOUT THE RECORD: With a 52-31 mark, the Cubs have the best record in the majors yet are just 13-16 in their last 29 games starting a month ago June 5 however, the Cubs have only lost a half game of their division lead during this stretch (from 9.5 games on June 5 to 9 games today) going back a bit further, the Cubs have seen their division lead grow from 5 games on May 24 to 9 games today. THE CONFINES HAVE BEEN FRIENDLY: The Cubs are 26-12 at Wrigley Field this season, the best home record in the National League and fourth-best in all of baseball the Cubs have the best record in baseball despite playing only 38 home games, tied for the fewest in the National League only Cleveland (37 home games) has played fewer home games across the majors. This is the third of a brief four-game homestand that features three games with the Reds and a one-game make-up game against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday the Cubs then close out the first half with a three-game series in Pittsburgh this weekend. Chicago has utilized five rookies, all joining the team within roughly the last month Albert Almora Jr. was the first rookie utilized in the team s 57th game on June 7 in Philadelphia this was by far the latest the Cubs have gone into a season before using a rookie, as at least one had played for Chicago within the first 20 games in each of its previous campaigns thanks to Ed Hartig. 20/20 VISION: Anthony Rizzo on Saturday clubbed his 20th home run of the season to join Kris Bryant (25 homers) with at least 20 homers they join Baltimore s Mark Trumbo (24 homers) and Chris Davis (21) and Toronto s Edwin Encarnacion (22) and Josh Donaldson (22) as the lone big league teammates with 20 homers. Bryant and Rizzo are also the first set of Cubs teammates to hit at least 20 homers prior to the All-Star Break since 2005 (Derrek Lee with 27 homers, Aramis Ramirez with 20 homers). Since the start of the 2015 campaign, Rizzo and Bryant have hit 51 homers apiece, tied for fourth-most in the N.L. Nolan Arenado (65), Bryce Harper (59) and Carlos Gonzalez (58) make up the top three.
