What s Inside From the: Couples Loyalist Tournmanet Mid South Mens League Ladies League ProShop Operations Manager Fairways Book Club Volunteer Dale Henderson May 2015 Volume 183 From the Couples' Golf Please join us for a new season of Couples Golf, beginning Monday April 25th. We play once a month, generally on the last Monday of each month. Information about the league is available on the League bulletin board beside the handicap computer. Please check the board for details on the Stapleford game we play, dates for 2015 and our signup sheets. Each month s signup will be posted on the League board approximately 2 weeks prior to play. Couples are welcome to sign up and we will match the teams or you may sign up as a foursome. We only ask that you do not sign up with the same team more than once a season. Our goal is to have members meet and play with different couples each month. If you are a single and would like to play please let me know and we will try to match you with a partner for the season. Any questions? Contact Judy or Bob Rix at 352-8730. Looking forward to another season of golf. Judy Rix From the Loyalist Mid South Tournament On March 11, ( a beautiful sunny day) 35 golfers took to the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Myrtle Beach. Gerry Hartley and Doug Ross ( a former Loyalist resident) took the top honors. Closest to the pin for the men went to Cliff Shewfelt and Augusta James took that honor for the ladies. We were thrilled to have Augusta and Jean play in the tournament. Geoff had an injured wing and couldn't golf so he toured around the course offering every group any needed advice and encouragement. I think everyone had a great day out there. After golf we all enjoyed a great meal put on by the golf course. A few spouses joined us making it 39 for dinner. It was fun to see friends and neighbours. The weather was great and hopefully we will see everyone back again next year. Ron Lacey and Harolyn Shewfelt ( tournament co-ordinators) From the Men s League TO ALL MALE GOLFERS: As we look at the upcoming year, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to all our new and returning members, looking for a fun filled league, playing with your neighbors, and experiencing frustration, disappointment, winnings, surprises, laughter, but especially CAMARADERIE. The Loyalist Men's league welcomes all men from inside and outside the Loyalist residential community. The league plays each Tuesday morning, starting April 21st for 25 weeks. You'll get to play with your fellow members and it doesn't matter what your skill level is. Team games are balanced as evenly as possible so we all get to play and enjoy. Once a month, we enjoy each other s company at our luncheons, where we announce the previous month's winners and all the necessary Men's league news. This brochure and the enclosed pamphlets, will give new members all the necessary information required to have a great experience. For our returning members, you'll see some of the changes made, based on your suggestions, to improve your league. Please feel free to contact any committee member should you have any questions or comments. WELCOME to the 2015 Loyalist Men s Golf League ENJOY! Robert Towner, Captain

From the Ladies League The nice spring weather allowed the Ladies League to start golfing in April. But, our season will really be in full swing on 5 May with golf for the 18 and 9 hole players and our opening lunch, and on 6 May with Twilite golf and a Meet & Greet. Registration for all leagues continues and the numbers are growing drop off your form with payment at the club or bring it to the luncheon. All ladies, whether you golf or not, are most welcome at our lovely luncheons. Simply sign up in the ladies locker room or register at the club office. There s something new this year every Tuesday is designated as guest day and we hope to see many new golfers and non-golfers enjoy our great facilities. Please plan to join your friends and neighbours on the golf course and at our luncheons throughout the 2015 season. Ladies Golf Committee Executive From the ProShop I would like to start by letting everyone know about the upcoming events in May. Supply is limited, so don t miss out on these great deals! We are very excited to be once again hosting the PGA Tour Canada Great Waterway Classic here at Loyalist this season. Anyone wishing to register as a volunteer for the event can pick up a form in the proshop. Also, we are now selling both daily and weekly tickets for the event, which can be purchased in the proshop! Its great to have everyone back and we look forward to seeing you on the course! From the Fairways Book Club Our next meeting is on May 11 at 2 pm at the clubhouse. We will have an author, Laurie Lewis, visit us. Each of us will read one of her books and bring 2.00 to contribute to her honorarium. Brian Kennedy will set up for 30-40 people and provide cookies as well as coffee and tea. If you would like to invite a friend please do, but an estimate of numbers would help us in the setup. The Happy Bookers have also been invited. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Cheers, Kathy ffolliott

3 From the Operations Manager It finally seems like the weather is going to change and spring is going to arrive! Those snowbirds that have finally returned I am sure you are happy to see the snow has left and the frigid temperatures have disappeared. Hopefully the course will be open soon! We have had a busy off season, with some changes and new initiatives for the 2015 season. First, let s start off by introducing our new Food and Beverage Manager, Brian Cherry. Brian comes to us from spending many years in the Toronto food industry, and has returned home to the Kingston area where he grew up. Welcome Brian! Another addition to the F&B Operation is Megan Hamilton, who will serve as Brian s assistant F&B Manager as well as Wedding Coordinator. We were lucky enough to steal her away from the Delta Hotel and her presence will enhance our operation greatly. Welcome Megan! The F&B Operation is now open for normal spring hours(11am-7pm). Be sure to stop by and test Chef Kevin s new menu, including some of the popular choices from last season and some unique offerings for this spring! The pro shop will be offering some new programs as well this season, so be sure to check out the unique and fun events that we have to offer. This season we will again be hosting the Ontario Senior Ladies Championship. This event will be returning and we look forward to hosting the best Senior Ladies from across the province as well as locally. This event was booked prior to the GWC deciding it would not be staging their event at Black Bear Ridge. On the surface it seems that we should only lose morning play on the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. Unfortunate but we felt obligated to honour our commitment. We will again be hosting the PGA TOUR Canada s Great Waterway Classic this season due to the lack of venue for 2015. After last season s incredible success, which saw Loyalist receive the highest rating of any event from the 2014 season, it should be a great challenge to see if the green army and match or exceed last year s performance? If you have any interest in being involved please stop by the office, check out our website or send our Volunteer chair, Dale Henderson, a note. Go Green Army! In closing; A young Scottish lad and lass were sitting on a low stone wall, holding hands, gazing out over the loch. For several minutes they sat silently. Then finally the girl looked at the boy and said, "A penny for your "Well, uh, I was thinkin'... perhaps it's aboot time for a wee kiss." The girl blushed, then leaned over and kissed him lightly on the cheek.. Then he blushed. The two turned once again to gaze out over the loch. Minutes passed and the girl spoke again. "Another penny for your "Well, uh, I was thinkin' perhaps it's noo aboot time for a wee cuddle." The girl blushed, then leaned over and cuddled him for a few seconds. Then he blushed. And the two turned once again to gaze out over the loch. After a while, she again said, "Another penny for your "Well, uh, I was thinkin' perhaps it's aboot time you let me put my hand on your leg." The girl blushed, then took his hand and put it on her knee.then he blushed. Then the two turned once again to gaze out over the loch before the girl spoke again. "Another penny for your The young man glanced down with a furled brow. "Well, noo," he said, 'my thoughts are a wee bit more serious this time.' "Really?" said the lass in a whisper, filled with anticipation. "Aye," said the lad, nodding. The girl looked away in shyness, began to blush, and bit her lip in anticipation of the ultimate request. Then he said, "Dae ye nae think it's aboot time ye paid me the first three pennies?" See you on the links

See us at: www.loyalistcc.com Volunteer Opportunities Just in case you haven t heard, it is true the PGA Tour Canada is returning to Loyalist August 24-28 th and in no small measure, our team of volunteers has contributed to this happening. So aptly named, the Green Army, our volunteers drew great praise from the tour officials and players and did so under very adverse weather conditions including a seven hour rain delay. As soon as official confirmation was received last November, the volunteer committee commenced the various tasks and with the experience gained last year will be even better prepared. Most of the committee chairs are returning and have been able to provide excellent input to the planning of this year s activities. We are going to be reaching out to neighboring golf clubs and the community overall to expand our volunteer base and with a target of 325 volunteers need lots of help. Already in place is a completely revamped application process for Volunteers and Caddies and with a few simple clicks an application may be completed online. Paper applications are, of course, still available and you may print one from the website or pick up from the clubhouse office. Although August is some months ahead, we are encouraging volunteers to help us out by submitting applications early. This permits the committee to assess areas requiring additional support and more appropriately focus recruiting activities. So, if you are planning to sign up an early response will be very much appreciated. We are pleased to advise the following names have been won Early Bird prizes by submitting their applications by March 31 st and we plan on having additional prizes as other plateaus are reached. We are nearing the 100 mark already so off to a great start. Winners: Roger Burke-Bath Alan Insley-Kingston Adele Swinwood-Bath A brief visit to loyalistcc.com under TOURNAMENTS will provide more information and lead you to the application options. The second option utilizing the website has proven to be the most popular as you simply fill in the blanks by clicking on preferences and then click on SUMBIT APPLICATION; you are all done. No attachments, no file saving or printing and you will receive an acknowledgement within 24 hours.
