3 Club Scramble Results Saturday February 9th kicked off the 2019 tournament season with the annual 3 Club Scramble tournament. This was a 2 man team with players only able to use 3 clubs each with no sharing. We saw some very good scores from some new winning faces. Congratulations to Ross Nelson and Hunter Letts for winning Overall Low Net with an outstanding team score of 57.7! Congratulations to Ryan Trocchio and Michael Walters for winning the Overall Low Gross award with a team score of 62! Final results can be found below. We appreciate everyone coming out and we look forward to next month s Spring Kickoff! Golf News either August or September. New Players Tees The course has been rated for a new set of tees called the Players Tees. The tees will consist of a combination of Blue and White tees designed to give golfers an option to play the course from a fun but challenging combination of tees. Look for the new Players Tees in the near future on new scorecards. The course has also been rated from the Yellow Junior Tees. This option is intended to be used for beginning ladies and advancing junior golfers for score posting purposes. BERKELEY SENIOR CORNER Febuary 2019 All Berkeley male members: If you were born in 1969 or earlier, you qualify as a Senior. The 2019 golfing season is about to begin with senior weekday tournaments and match play competitions at Berkeley and other participating clubs in the North Atlanta Senior Men s Golf Association. Let s hope the weather will cooperate and the course dries out after incessant rains in February. We are fortunate to have a course that drains well and a great course management staff that works hard to keep playing disruptions to a minimum. You re the best Chris Purvis, Berkeley s Super Superintendent. Let s do our best in filling divots, picking up tees and trash and avoiding those wet spots. Those in carts will find that the GPS system in the carts will turn the cart off if you get off the cart paths when it s Cart Paths Only. Senior events at Berkeley: The Senior Board is working with the Pro Shop to outline a number of tournaments for seniors at Berkeley for 2019. The first of 4 senior tournaments will be on April 17(weather permitting). The format will be a partners better. Barry Lakas, Berkeley Senior Match Play Captain has planned an Intra- Squad match play competition for March 27. The first 24 seniors that respond to his upcoming e-mail announcement be assigned to one of two twelve man teams that will play a match against each other. This should be a lot of fun and great practice for the upcoming match play season. Senior events within the North Atlanta Senior Men s Golf Association (NASMGA): The first of 8 tournament sponsored by the NASMGA will be at the Eagle Watch Country Club on March 28. Go on line at www.nasmga.com for details on this and all other 2019 events. Sign-up notices will be sent to all Berkeley Senior Men s Golf Association members approximately 20 days before each event. Other senior golfing opportunities with the Georgia Senior Golfers Association www.gaseniorgolf.org, The Southern Seniors Golf Association www.southernseniorsgolf.com The Georgia State Golf Association www.gsga.org are available to you. For more info contact the senior board here at Berkeley. We want to hear from you: Come out and participate in the scheduled tournaments, the week day tournaments, the Senior Interclub Tournaments, and Senior Match Play. As your Senior Representative on the Golf/Grounds Committee at Berkeley, give me your ideas about making a viable senior organization. You can also send me an e-mail at ajimandersen@gmail.com. Superintendent News March 2019 Rain, rain, rain!! I promise it will eventually stop. The positive with all the water is when it warms up, the grass will have plenty to drink and grow with. On March 4th, we are scheduled to spread the fertilizer and pre-emergent, weather permitting. Even if it is marginally wet, we will continue with the spread. You may see some tire marks from the large truck, but once the grass grows and we begin to mow, it will level itself out and disappear. We are almost finished with adding 4 of sand to all the bunkers. As long as the rain continues at times, it will help with the settling of the sand and get them back to more playable conditions. If you any questions, please stop me and ask.
