UTA enjoyed one of its best non-conference seasons in school history before the loss against the Demons. QUICK HITS received 28 votes in this week s Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Mavericks climbed as high as 14th before losses against Oklahoma State, TCU and Northwestern State...Senior guard Rod Epps has hit 14 consecutive free thows. His last miss was in the second half of UTA s victory Dec. 7 against Wichita State...Sophomore point guard Rog er Guignard has hit 15 of his past 31 3-pointers in victories against Hardin-Simmons and UT-Permian Basin and the loss against Northwestern State...Forward Anthony Vereen scored a career-high 23 points against the Demons. Vereen, a 6-foot-7 junior, has scored in doublefigures in 10 of UTA s 13 games this season. In his past five games, Vereen has come off the bench to average 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game...in their past three games, UTA has made 31 of 55 free throws (56 percent)...the Mavericks are currently 11th in the nation in field-goal percentage at 50 percent. They are 16th in field-goal percentage at 37.7 percent... In the non-conference season, UTA defeated a school-record six Division I schools (UALR, Wichita State, UC Riverside, Texas Southern, North Texas and Western Illinois)...Sophomore forward Tommy Moffitt has hit at least one 3-pointer in six of his past seven games. Moffitt is for 8-for-17 in that span...despite his 57.5 shooting percentage from the line, senior forward Larry Posey has hit 10 of his past 14 free throws. THE SERIES Central Arkansas and have played just one time, a 66-60 victory by the Mavericks last season in Arlington. ABOUT THE BEARS Central Arkansas is off to a hot start, thanks to an eight-game win streak from Nov. 7 to Dec. 5. In that span, the Bears defeated Idaho, Jacksonville State twice and UT-Martin. The Bears are undefeated in seven games at home. Guard Nate Bowie and Marcus Pillow have combined to hit 69 3-pointers in 188 attempts (36.7 percent), while big men Durrell Nevels and Brian Marks have pulled down a combined 223 rebounds.

Game 14: UTA at Central Arkansas MEDIA INFORMATION Interviews Head coach Scott Cross can generally be reached in his office on weekdays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Please call Darrin Scheid in the Sports Information Office at (817) 272-5706. Player interviews should be arranged through the SID office as well. The best time to reach coaches and student-athlete at once is before or after practice. The Maverick s practices vary from day-to-day. Please check with the SID Office for practice times. Under no circumstances will a student-athlete s phone number be given to the media. Post-game Procedures Maverick head coach Scott Cross will be made available outside the locker room, after the NCAA-mandated 10-minute cooling off period has been enforced. The locker room is closed to media members at all times. Any player interviews should be coordinated through Darrin Scheid, Assistant Sports Information Director, and will be conducted either in the UTA Media Room at home or outside the UTA locker room on the road. Junior forward Anthony Vereen is originally from Hammond, La., but played at Gulf Shores Academy in Houston before signing to play for the GRIFFIN REACHES MILESTONE With his 10-point performance against Northwestern State, senior center Jermaine Griffin became the eighth player in UTA men s basketball history to score at least 1,000 points and pull down at least 500 rebounds. In addition to the scoring and rebounding milestone, Griffin has been a defensive presence inside during his four-year career. The former Houston Wheatley standout set the Mavs career blocks record with two blocks at SE Louisiana on Jan. 13, 2007. The senior now has 130 career blocked shots. His 58 blocked shots last season is a singleseason record, eclipsing 43 set by Paul Renfro in 1979-80. Griffin was the Southland Conference Player of the Week for the first week of the season after 16 points and 14 rebounds in a 79-58 win over UC Riverside on Nov. 12. FAB FRESHMAN NOW A SUPER SOPH Sophomore point guard Ro ger Guignard is averaging 12.2 points (4th on the team). He leads with team with 3.5 assists per game, 35 3-pointers made and 25 steals. In his past three games, Guignard is 16-for-32 from the 3-point line. Guignard had a career high seven steals against North Texas on Nov. 21, one shy of a school record. He became the first Mav since Derrick Obasohan in 2000-01 to win the SLC Freshman of the Year last season. He was the first Maverick to average in double figures as a freshman since Bill Washington in 1996-97 by scoring 10.9 points per game in 30 games last season. He became just the second Mav to score 70-or-more 3-point field goals with 71 last season. Willie Brand set the season record of 77 in 1990-91. He needs 18 3-pointers to reach 100 in his career and 23 to move into 10th on the all-time list. INJURIES Junior guard Brandon Long will not play after suffering an undisclosed injury in the final minute of the loss at TCU. He is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks. PRIME TIME will appear on live television a minimum of six times during the 2007-08 season. The Mavs premiered on the Mountain Network when faced TCU on Dec. 17. was shown in parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri when they faced Oklahoma State on Dec. 22. MAVS OVERSEAS Five former Mavericks are currently playing professional basketball. Donnie Beacham was an all-star for the Texas Tycoons of the American Basketball Association.
