PIE & MUFFIN AUCTION What a great turn out for pie and muffin baking! Thank you to all of the 4-H ers that participate in this event. This is our ONLY county wide 4-H fundraiser, without your support, we would not be able to offer some of the activities that we do each year. Our pie and muffin auction raised $11,301!!! These funds will be used for 4-H programs in our county. Keep watch of the newsletter for upcoming events. While you as 4-H ers did a lot of work to make your pie/muffin, the auction would not be successful if it weren t for the generous donors that come year after year to buy the pies/ muffins. Please take a few minutes this week to write a Thank you note to the person that purchased your pie/muffin, even if it was Mom & Dad or Grandma & Grandpa. Thank you notes are available in the office. Congratulations to our winners! If you would like to have the year embroidered on your apron, please let me know and I ll put you in contact with the seamstress that can do that for you. OUT OF COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS Just a reminder: if you attended one of the awesome summer camp/conference opportunities that 4-H offers, you may be eligible for a 50% registration AK-SAR-BEN AK-SAR-BEN entries and payment are due to the Shelby County Extension office no later than 5pm August 8th. For more information go to www.aksarbenrodeo.com STATE FAIR STATIC EXHIBITORS All State Fair Static Exhibits MUST be to the Extension office no later than NOON on Monday, August 8th. Please be sure that your entry tag is securely affixed and each piece of the exhibit has a sticker with Name, County, Class and number of pieces in the exhibit. This includes the write-up, plates, napkins, display boxes, pillows, etc. Entry tags and labels are ready for pickup at the Extension office. TEEN RETREAT LEADERS GROW HERE Save the date of September 17 for a multi-county leadership retreat! This is an opportunity to meet other 4-H ers from six counties as well as to learn about leadership using fun activities. The event will be at the Swan Lake Education Center near Carroll from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. You will participate in activities that will help you to learn about leadership styles, communication and group decisions. The activities will be fun and exciting and give you skills in leadership that you can take back to your club and county. This is open to ALL enrolled 4-H ers in grades 8 to 12. There is no cost for Shelby County 4-H ers to attend. The day includes two meals plus snacks. A registration flier will be out soon. Hope to see you all there! AWARDS FESTIVAL!!!! Shelby County 4-H awards festival will be held on Sunday, November 13th at the Harlan High School. We will once again have games, prizes and food! Watch for details to come! Awards will be given for 100% attendance, most improved Jr/ Int/Sr, Jr and Int. club project awards, top record keeping system, county project awards (Int & Sr) and personal development awards (Sr. 4-H ers) 4-H RECORD BOOKS It s that time again! 4-H Record books are due to your club leaders soon! Don t know what to do or how to put your book together? Join me on Monday, August 29st at 7pm at the Extension office for a record book/county award/personal development award workshop. Please RSVP to mtaggs@iastate.edu or call. REMEMBER: to be eligible to show at the 2017 Shelby County Fair, you must turn in a completed record book to your 4-H leader. COUNTY AWARDS/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARDS Why should I apply?... 4-H county awards along with personal development awards are 4-H s way of recognizing outstanding 4-H ers for their leadership, citizenship and project area work. Applications along with record keeping/support materials are due to the Extension office on Sept. 23rd.
