BU and Creighton meet for the first time since Baylor s 85-55 win in the 2014 NCAA Tournament 2nd round. BU is looking to start 5-0 for the 8th time in the last 11 seasons all except 2009-10, 2012-13 & 2015-16. BU is 16-3 in regular-season tournaments since 2013-14, including 3-0 in the 2017 Hall of Fame Classic. Baylor has won 10 straight regular-season tournament games and is 29-11 during the Drew era. Baylor is 19-1 against non-big 12 teams since the start of the 2016-17 season. Baylor has posted a combined 131-26 record in November and December games during the Drew era, including a 49-4 mark in November and December games since 2013. BU is appearing in a regular-season tournament championship for the 4th time in the last 5 years (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017) and 7th time in the Drew era (2007, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017). Baylor is seeking its 5th tournament title under Drew (2007 Paradise Jam, 2011 Las Vegas Classic, 2013 NIT, 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis, 2017 Hall of Fame Classic). Baylor beat Wisconsin 70-65 on Monday despite going without a field goal for the final 8:43. BU is in the middle of a tough 4-game stretch against perennial powers after defeating Wisconsin, Baylor takes on Creighton, then plays at No. 15 Xavier (Nov. 28) and hosts No. 6 Wichita State (Dec. 2). Manu Lecomte leads the Big 12 with 21.5 points per game and has scored 17+ in all 4 games. Lecomte also leads the Big 12 in free throws made (31-for-33) and 3-pointers made (15-for-31). Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. is the only Big 12 Conference player averaging a double-double (13.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg). Jake Lindsey leads the Big 12 with a 20:1 assist-to-turnover ratio and has 4+ assists in all 4 games. BU is ranked No. 22 in the latest AP Top 25, marking 21 consecutive polls ranked. Baylor returned six letterwinners from last season s 27-8 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team. Those six letterwinners have combined to score 80% of Baylor s points (261 of 325) this season. Baylor is one of 12 teams to be nationally ranked in each of the last 10 seasons entering 2017-18. The Bears are coming off a school-record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. In Drew s first 14 seasons at Baylor, 34 players have gone on to professional careers. BU has graduated 93 percent of its scholarship seniors since Drew took over in 2003 (27 of 29). SUCCESS IN TOURNAMENTS Baylor is 29-11 in regular-season tournaments during the Scott Drew era. The Bears are 16-3 in their five regular-season tournaments since 2013-14, going 3-1, 3-1, 3-1, 4-0 and 3-0. BEARS IN MIDDLE OF TOUGH FOUR-GAME STRETCH Baylor is in the middle of a four-game stretch against some of the nation s premier college basketball programs. After defeating Wisconsin on Monday, BU takes on Creighton in the Hall of Fame Classic finals on Tuesday. BU then plays a road game at No. 15 Xavier on Nov. 28 before hosting No. 6 Wichita State on Dec. 2. SERIES HISTORY Tuesday s game will be the 5th series meeting between Baylor and Creighton. Creighton leads the series 3-1, including 1-1 at neutral sites. Creighton won the first three meetings in 1962, 1998 and 1999, and Baylor got its first win in the series with an 85-55 victory in the 2014 NCAA Tournament second round in San Antonio. BU HOLDS OFF LATE RALLY TO DEFEAT WISCONSIN, 70-65 Baylor advanced to the Hall of Fame Classic title game by knocking off Wisconsin, 70-65, on Nov. 20. The Bears never trailed in the game and led by 19 points with less than 12 minutes remaining. Wisconsin held BU without a field goal over the final 8:43 and got within 2 points, but the Bears iced the game at the foul line. Manu Lecomte went 13-of-15 at the charity stripe on his way to a game-high 24 points. DREW GETS 300TH WIN AS BEARS CRUISE PAST ALCORN STATE Baylor head coach Scott Drew earned his 300th career victory with BU s 78-61 win over Alcorn State on Nov. 17. Drew earned his 280th win at Baylor and improved to 100 games over.500 in his BU career (280-180). Manu Lecomte had a team-high 17 points, leading the team in scoring for a third straight game. BU OVERCOMES SLOW START TO IMPROVE TO 2-0 VS. TAMU-CORPUS CHRISTI Baylor bounced back from a slow start to post a 70-46 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 13. The Bears led 28-22 at the half after starting 0-for-8 from 3-point range and 1-for-8 at the free throw line. BU shot 52% in the second half and out-scored the Islanders 42-24. BU committed 8 turnovers and held TAMU-CC to 0 points off turnovers. It was the first time Baylor held an opponent to 0 points off turnovers since Feb. 4, 2003, a 77-69 win vs. Texas A&M with 0 points off 9 turnovers. RECORD-BREAKING SEASON OPENER Baylor began the 2017-18 season with a 107-66 win over Central Arkansas on Nov. 10. The Bears broke program records for field goal percentage (66.1) and 3-point percentage (70.6). All five BU starters scored 15+ points for the first time in program history. BU s 107 points were its most vs. a Division I opponent since March 20, 2013 a 112-66 win vs. Long Beach State. Tristan Clark (15 pts) was the first true freshman to start a BU season opener since Ishmail Wainright in 2013. Nuni Omot had more assists (9) than all of last season (8). He also set career-highs in points (15) and minutes (26). Manu Lecomte (22 pts), Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (17 pts) and King McClure (15 pts) also scored 15+ points. Terry Maston had 14 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench for his 2nd career double-double. EXPERIENCE ACROSS ROSTER Baylor s roster features 12 players who are at least 20 years old, and six of the 13 roster players are at least 22. Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. and Nuni Omot are both 23 years old, while Leonard Allen, Manu Lecomte, Terry Maston and Jonathan Davis are all 22 years old. Ekpe Udoh, Johnathan Motley, Cory Jefferson, Brady Heslip and Royce O Neale have all gone on to professional careers after redshirting. Manu Lecomte (transfer) and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (medical issues) redshirted during the 2015-16 season, and Mark Vital and Tyson Jolly redshirted due to the team s depth in 2016-17. Mario Kegler and Freddie Gillespie are both redshirting this season while sitting out to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. SCOTT DREW COACHING TREE Three current Division I head coaches took their first DI head coaching jobs after stints on Scott Drew s BU staff. Matthew Driscoll is in his ninth season as head coach at North Florida after six seasons as a Baylor assistant. Grant McCasland is in his first season as head coach at North Texas. He spent five years as a Baylor assistant before taking over as Arkansas State head coach in 2016-17. Paul Mills is in his first season as head coach at Oral Roberts. He was a member of Drew s original Baylor staff in 2003-04 and spent 14 years with Drew, the final eight as an assistant coach. NEW FACES ON BAYLOR BENCH Scott Drew added two new coaching staff members and promoted three others in June 2017. Bill Peterson joined the staff as Director of Basketball Operations. He has more than a decade of NBA experience, including the prior three seasons as head coach of the NBA G-League s Erie BayHawks, an Orlando Magic affiliate.
