If you have not been, this is a must go to event, right in the middle of winter when we all are just itching to get out and at least look at motorcycles. Normally we can t ride because, as I told Scott Swaney, it always snows when we head there, and this time was no different. The rain we had Thursday turned to ice and snow, and that is what we left in on Friday morning. By the time we reached Iowa City, the roads were much better and the sun had started to come out. We reached Fremont about 12:30, just in time to attend the judging seminar that new Chief Judge Carl Olson was putting on. He did a great job and even had a bike, which he had restored, there to use as an example. Too bad Matt wasn t at the meeting as he got all the blame for the things that were wrong. Ha! Ha! During Carl s hour and a half talk, the snow started and came down pretty hard but did not last long. The banquet was sold out by the time we got there but Scott was able to find us a couple tickets. The Gilmore boys (who Brenda loves) were the speakers for the night. If you have not had the privilege of meeting these guys, you are missing out. They put on a skit that was so funny but left you with the message of all the unsafe things that we did as youth riding motorcycles. The judging on Saturday morning went pretty smoothly. There were 35 bikes to be judged and I believe that more than half of those were new to judging. That was nice to see. Brenda and I joined in the judging and Brenda got her field judge card this time. We judged a couple of 60 s pans and a shovel. Amongst the judging was an original liberty edition sportster that was very nice with an intact tank decal. There was a nice display of bikes, in addition to the ones being judged. There were lots of nice parts for sale, as the vending continues to grow every year. It was great to see all our friends from the Omaha Chapter. We would like to thank all the volunteers at the Omaha Chapter for this wonderful meet. It has to be our favorite by far. Now is the time to get working on our meet. Brenda is preparing the vendor packet to get in the mail to our vendors. We need to be thinking about what to do with the new building. Some ideas being thrown around are asking the museums to put up displays in there, possibly inside vending, etc. We have been discussing putting on the field events again this year and have a new member who has volunteered to head this effort. Let s make this the best meet ever! Bring your ideas and suggestions to the meeting in April. Hope to see everyone at the brunch. The weather is starting to turn and spring is right around the corner. We will be out riding before you know it. David

Page 6 of 6 Remember to keep these friends in our thoughts and prayers. Our sympathies go out to Harry and Mildred Dawson for the loss of Harry s brother and to Susie Scott for the loss of her brother. The latest update on Mildred. Mildred Dawson fell as she was trying to change a light bulb. She fractured her hip. It has been one month since Mildred Dawson had her fall. She is still in Skilled Care which is an extension of the hospital. This week as been a big week for her, working harder with the PT and OT. She now spends most of her day in a recliner, and moving to a wheelchair with assistance of two aids. In PT, she is also working on her transitioning from chair to chair. Mildred still has no weight-bearing on the one leg. Mildred has limited pain, which is well managed, eating better and speaking better. Her mood is improved, even a tad optimistic, looking to the future. This is all good news and hopefully she will keep improving each day! The latest update on Sandy Sandy Schumacher is improving nicely and will be transferred down to Genesis Rehabilitation Unit. Sandy Schumacher went to Iowa City Hospital February 14 th. Sandy s recovery has been a real miracle. Part of Sandy s skull was removed because of swelling of her brain. The skull was put in a freezer to reattach down the road. After the removal of part of her skull Sandy has improved each day! Today she is able to set in a chair (limited) and is eating real food!(small amounts) Sandy has a long road ahead of her with Physical Therapy. Sandy will be working real hard to get her mobility back. She has raised both arms above her head and has movement in both legs! Tim has stayed by her side, catching little sleep. As you all know, hospitals don t have very comfortable couches nor believe in quite time. We are hoping she will be transferred to a Davenport facility March 1 st and will be doing a lot of Physical Therapy there. I will keep you informed on what facility she will be at. I am sure she would enjoy visitors as she continues her recovery. Please keep the Schumacher family in your prayers. Newest update: Sandy has been transferred to Genesis. Interested in visiting Sandy? Genesis West, 4th floor, room 4007 from 3-8 pm M-F, Sunday's after 9 am. She's usually in the dining hall for about 1/2 hour at 8 am, noon & 6 pm. No guests are allowed in the dining hall. I'm sure she'd like to see you. Sunshine Chapter members Carl Sorenson and his wife Cindy were recently involved in a very serious motorcycle accident in Orlando, Florida. Carl and his wife, Cindy, were hit while riding, Thursday evening 2/16/2012. Upon arrival at the hospital Carl had his lower left leg amputated; since then he has had other surgeries including left hip replacement. Cindy has a broken left arm, ankle and ribs and head trauma but is starting to come around. Latest update off the forum. From friends of the Sorenson s. Friends, I haven't written in a couple of days as there hasn't been any major changes, just continued steady improvement. I went to the hospital today and visited with both Cindy and Carl. She is still in room 806 and Carl remains in the ICU step-down unit with only immediate family access. I lucked out as Megan was there and they were taking Cindy to visit Carl for the first time since the accident...a very special thing to see! Again, I'm so impressed with both of their progress and also how well they are coping with this life altering experience. They held hands and stuck their tongues out at each other ) and talked about what they remembered or didn't. Two major improvements are that Carl doesn't have a feeding tube and is starting to take solid food. And he has asked for books to read and no longer is asking for help to "escape." His sense of humor is there too and that just warms my heart. He talked about the great friends he has and I heard from his daughter he wanted a bottle of his favorite whiskey to serve to his friends when they came to visit. He did have an MRI of his right knee and the results are pending. There was concern about possible ligament damage. The family today went to look at skilled nursing facilities as Cindy may be released soon and will need that level of care for a while. Please continue with your praise and prayers. They are certainly very effective. It will be a long recovery for both. Thank you all. Kirk and John To send cards: Carl and Cindy at 2803 Tamarack Trail, Apopka, FL 32703.
