Central Division for the first time in two months since the completion of play on May 26. Chicago, now a season-high six-games over.500 and holding a half-game lead over the Brewers, has emerged from the All-Star Break with a 10-2 record (.833), tied with the Dodgers for the best record in baseball. This 10-2 run has helped the Cubs make up six games in the N.L. Central standings since the season s second half started 13 days ago. Jake finished his July 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA (8 ER/32.0 IP) in five starts he limited opponents to a.161 average, a.234 on-base percentage and a.321 slugging mark while walking nine and striking out 23. QUITE THE MONTH: Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is hitting.347 (25-for-72) with seven home runs and 18 RBI in 18 July games Elias notes that it has been over 20 years since a Cubs catcher had that many homers and RBI in a calendar month Scott Servais hit eight homers and had 18 RBI for Chicago in August of 1995. THERE S A WADE: With his save Sunday night, Cubs closer Wade Davis has set the single-season franchise record for consecutive save chances converted, as he s been successful in his first 20 opportunities this year that surpasses Flash Gordon in 2001, Ryan Dempster in 2005 and Carlos Marmol in 2012, all of whom had 19-straight successful save chances in a single campaign. The franchise mark for consecutive save chances converted is held by Dempster (26 straight in the 2005-06 seasons) Davis 20- straight save conversions are tied for fourth-longest in club history overall.
